Wooden block house is excellent option exterior finishing low-rise buildings. This also applies to this finish made from other materials. It has an attractive appearance and is able to retain natural heat inside the building.

For reference

If you are familiar with the technology, you can install the finish yourself, saving money. The block house imitates finishing with natural wood. Manufacture this material made of wood, galvanized metal or vinyl. Fastening is carried out using galvanized dowels or hanging brackets, it all depends on what the panels are made of.

Why choose a block house for the facade

Today, the block house is popular among professionals and home craftsmen. How to attach this material will be described in more detail below. If you still doubt whether to choose such cladding for your home, then you need to pay attention to the positive characteristics, including:

  • the ability to insulate the facade and waterproof the walls of the house;
  • short period of work;
  • non-exposure of the material to ultraviolet radiation;
  • the possibility of finishing not only walls, but also gables, as well as building plinths;
  • the ability to install a block house on walls made of any material, be it stone, concrete or brick.

Among the wide variety of modern finishing materials in stores, there is also such as a block house. How to attach this material? Before starting work, it is imperative to familiarize yourself with the technology. You can do the installation yourself, and in the end you will be able to get a cladding that will not lose its original color over time.

Due to the fact that the material is attached using technology, moisture does not accumulate under the finish, which could cause mold. Among other things, such finishing does not place a significant load on the foundation and walls of the house, which cannot be said about material made from natural wood or metal.

Preparing the wall surface

Before attaching the block house to the outside, you must prepare the facade, which must be smooth and dry. The surface can be plastered, and wooden houses can be cleaned and sanded, which especially applies to areas affected by fungus and mold. Such areas should be treated with an antiseptic primer. special purpose. The walls must be additionally waterproofed; for this purpose, a water-repellent composition must be applied to the walls made of brick or reinforced concrete. An exception is the walls made of wood; a water-repellent composition must be applied to their surface, which will prevent the formation of fungus and mold.

Installation of load-bearing sheathing

If you are thinking about how to attach a block house, you should know that this material is installed on a sheathing, which is made of metal profiles or wood. The first option is used for fastening galvanized metal cladding, so below we will consider an example of installing a block house on a wooden sheathing.

At the first stage, a vapor barrier layer is attached, which can be a film. The canvases should be installed with an overlap of 3 cm, this will prevent steam leakage. The wooden sheathing should be positioned strictly vertically, the timber for the supporting structure should be dry and treated with an antiseptic primer, it is important to choose a deep penetration composition.

So, you have decided to use a block house for the exterior decoration of your home. How to attach this material? You should familiarize yourself with this before starting work. The technology requires compliance with a certain sheathing pitch, which should be 50 cm. This will guarantee the reliability and strength of the structure. The block house is fixed to the wall surface after laying the thermal insulation and waterproofing, which are located between the sheathing.

At the next stage, the counter-lattice is attached, which is installed on top of the insulating layer, and vapor and waterproofing. Two load-bearing sheathings are fixed together with galvanized wood screws; it is important to choose the correct length of fasteners.

Features of installing panels

Increasingly, modern builders are choosing block houses for finishing low-rise buildings. You should also learn how to attach this material if you are going to purchase cladding for work. The boards are fastened from below or above the wall. An important rule is the location of the tongue upward, in this case water will not be able to penetrate into the joints of the boards.

Whatever the installation method, it is necessary to leave 5cm gaps at the top and bottom of the wall to provide ventilation space. Due to the fact that wood has the ability to expand when exposed to temperature and humidity, it is important to leave a gap between the boards, the width of which should be 3 mm. If this rule is neglected, the panels may be deformed under the influence of external unfavorable factors. The corners of the cladding joints should be decorated with external or internal corners. If the material is significantly thick, you need to hide the junction of the boards with two vertical slats.

Features of installing vinyl siding on the facade

If you want to learn how to properly mount a block house from the outside, then first you must decide on the finishing material. If it is vinyl, then it is also necessary to leave a temperature gap between the panels; its width should be a maximum of 3 mm.

Each product must be fastened only in the place where the manufacturer has provided perforation. If there are no holes for installing fasteners, they must be punched before starting installation. The step between the fastening points should not be more than 40 cm. When working, you should use anti-corrosion fasteners, galvanized screws, which are sometimes replaced with nails of sufficient length.

If you decide to use self-tapping screws, then after tightening them completely, you need to unscrew the fasteners one turn. This requirement is also dictated by the thermal expansion of the material. Nails require a space of one millimeter between the head and the finishing surface.

Features of interior wall decoration of a block house

Many novice craftsmen today are thinking about the question of how to attach a block house inside the house. The methodology for carrying out the work is almost no different from that described above, but there are some nuances.

Regardless of what material the walls are made of, the sheathing should be installed; for this you need to use 30 mm bars. The distance between them can be equal to an interval ranging from 50 to 60 cm; when installing them, it is important to align the elements in height. This has one main advantage - when designing interior walls In a block house there is no need to level the walls before starting work.

Insulation at interior decoration it is not necessary to carry out this, this especially applies to wooden and brick structures. However, the decision about the need for thermal insulation must be made in advance, even before installing the sheathing. If this layer is present, then the thickness of the bars indicated above must be increased.

Before attaching the block house to the wall, it is necessary to calculate how much the room will be reduced, this is especially true in the case when it is necessary to have a soundproofing effect, which is achieved by providing air space between the cladding and the wall.

As a rule, a block house indoors is installed horizontally along a vertically oriented sheathing. But in some cases, vertical installation of panels is also used. This is true in cases where the conditions in the room remain high humidity, which is true for baths and saunas. During the operation of the premises, these technologies make it possible to eliminate the accumulation of liquid in the grooves of the boards, preventing premature destruction of the wood.

If you are thinking about how to properly attach a block house using the above-mentioned installation method, then the tenon of the first and all subsequent boards should be directed towards the light source, this will make the joint of the boards less noticeable. But such fastening is usually considered as an exception, while the generally accepted practice is to install the block house horizontally, in which the tenon will be located on top and the groove on the bottom.

Conclusion

Before attaching a metal block house, you need, as in all the cases described above, to install the sheathing. If you want to achieve a more durable result, then you should choose The insulation layer under the finishing is fixed with disc dowels, and if it is necessary to install a double layer of thermal insulation, you need to apply a bandage to prevent gaps from forming.

As the proverb says: every man must build a house, plant a tree and raise a son. And if the last two points do not cause any particular difficulties, then when building your home you may have some questions. Using the advice on the site, you were probably already able to build your wooden dream without any problems, and now all that remains is to give your log house finishing touch- to finish it.

Trying to preserve the style of the log house, we will consider the option of finishing it with a block house, or rather, the rules and advice on its fastening and installation, so that you do not have questions about how to attach a block house with your own hands. Due to the fact that the block house is presented on the market in several versions, the methods of its installation will therefore differ slightly. All work on finishing the house should begin after the house has settled, otherwise your efforts may go to waste.

Before starting any work on laying a block house, you must first prepare the walls of your wooden house.

Note: caulking of a wooden house is done at least twice: the first after construction is completed, the second after a year and a half, when the log house has given the necessary shrinkage and shrinkage. The third in 7-9 years.

External preparatory work.

They are practically no different from the interior decoration of a log house. The only thing worth considering is that when cladding a building, it is always insulated additional materials(foam plastic, mineral wool, etc.). This can be overlooked during interior decoration.

TO additional training This also includes drying and treating the wooden panels of the block house with an antiseptic. Iron, vinyl and plastic block house does not require any preliminary procedures.

Having completed all the necessary preparations, you should decide what type of house block you will use to decorate the building.

Stage two. Lathing for fastening the blockhouse.

Wondering how to attach a block house You must first understand what it needs to be mounted on. Lathing is needed primarily to ensure a smooth surface of the walls and to additionally insulate them using various materials. For block house only applies vertical lathing due to its peculiarities appearance(You haven’t seen a log house with vertically arranged logs anywhere, have you?).

Before starting the lathing, you should use a level and plumb line to mark the walls and only after that proceed to the actual installation. To do this, use a level to tighten the fishing line at the top and bottom of the wall. It is worth starting with the longest of the walls of the log house, while the fishing line is first stretched at the top of the wall, then using a plumb line the lower fishing line is leveled (this is done so that the wall is not blocked).

Wooden sheathing.

This type of sheathing is made from wooden planks (20*50mm) or bars (30*30mm; 40*40), which are attached to the wall of the log house using galvanized nails or self-tapping screws.

The first plank is attached along a vertically stretched fishing line; all subsequent ones must also be adjusted to a horizontal level. To align the planks, sawn boards and small spacers are used, which, depending on the need, are adjusted along the entire length of the plank or block. The spacing of the bars is approximately 40-60cm, depending on the type of block house used.

It is worth remembering that wooden sheathing requires the same treatment as a log house (antiseptic, etc.). It is mainly used for wooden blog houses.

Advantages:

  • Wooden planks can always be trimmed to the desired level if they are nailed a little unevenly.
  • This type of lathing has a high load-bearing capacity and is preferable for exterior finishing.
  • Although mounting will require cutting out spacers, the mounting process itself is simpler than metal profile.

Flaws:

  • The price of wood is an order of magnitude higher than that of a profile.
  • The tree requires additional processing.

Tip: to give greater load-bearing capacity and stronger and convenient fastening you can use the counter-lattice method. In which, after installing the main guides, perpendicular beams are additionally attached to them. This type of lathing is more stable, but its price is correspondingly higher.

Attaching a block house to a wooden house

Lathing made of metal profile.

How to attach a house block in the metal version is very simple. With such lathing, a U-shaped (UD) is used, which is attached to the wall using spacers that are also bent in the shape of the letter P. Using spacers and their bends in in the right places The profile is leveled and the required plane of the walls is achieved. All metal profile elements are attached exclusively using self-tapping screws. The fastening step of the vertical bases is from 35 to 50 cm due to the weaker load-bearing capacity; as an option, it is worth considering the option of conro-lattice.

Advantages:

  • Faster installation
  • It’s easier to level the sheathing using spacers
  • Availability and low price material used
  • Does not require additional processing

How to properly secure metal sheathing under a blockhouse

Flaws:

  • Weak load bearing capacity designs
  • Difficulty in attaching wooden planks (limiting attachment options)
  • Limited applicability for external sheathing

The metal profile is mainly suitable for the iron and siding version of the blog house.

Plastic sheathing.

Enough the new kind sheathing of the building using a plastic profile. It is attached mainly to a flat surface using self-tapping screws. It has an easier installation system and increased load-bearing capacity (compared to metal), but it is very difficult to find on the market and if the walls of the log house are not level, it is almost impossible to use a plastic profile.

Stage number three. Blockhouse fastening.

Having decided on the sheathing of the building and made a choice in favor of one of the materials, you have come to the main question: how to fasten the block house? Whatever type of installation you choose, it is worth remembering that they all imply installation of house block panels in a horizontal direction from the bottom of the wall up.

Installation of wooden panels of a block house.

The most representative type of house block, made in the form of a carriage plank and imitating a rounded log or timber. Suitable for any type of decoration due to its attractive appearance and great opportunity layouts with other materials. Perfect for any home, whether made of logs, bricks or blocks.

This type of house block is the most expensive and requires a more complex approach to the fastening process. There are quite a large number of options for laying wooden panels; let’s look at the most popular ones.

  • Using a clamper. A kleimer is a special strip used to connect the panels of a block house with the sheathing, and also ensures a tight connection of the panels to each other using the tongue-and-groove system. The clamp is inserted into the groove of the board and, using a self-tapping screw, connects it to the sheathing bar. The only drawback is the gaps that may appear between the panels due to the clamp (they can be eliminated using a special wood-colored paste).
  • IN in this case fastening occurs using a self-tapping screw or a cluster, which is driven and recessed with the head into the “tenon” of the panel. This method is fraught with chipping of the “spike” if installed incorrectly and, accordingly, the panel is defective.
  • Like the previous option, a bunch/screw is driven into the tenon, but only at an angle of 45°; this method is more effective and the riskiest (due to the increased danger of damaging the panel).
  • Using a drill, holes for a screw/nail are drilled in a wooden panel. After the panel is secured, the fastening cap is recessed into the hole and hidden with a special wooden plug using glue. After sanding it, the cork resembles an ordinary knot. Quite a painstaking and at the same time reliable fastening option.
  • This method is relevant only for an outdated type of block house that does not have a tongue-and-groove fastening system and is made in the form of an ordinary board on one side and a log on the other. It uses both method No. 4 and the option of attaching it with special glue or liquid nails.

Note: The self-tapping screw must be at least twice as long as the thickness of the block house board.

All of the above options (except for No. 5) are identical both for fastening inside the premises and for the exterior decoration of the building. It is worth remembering that to insulate the walls of a log house, you can use both internal and external cladding.

Don't forget: Wood is a finicky material that requires constant care. If you used it for external cladding, do not be lazy to monitor its treatment every 4-5 years!

  • The best view of the building, both inside and outside.
  • With proper care, it does not lose its attractiveness over time and is easily renewed.
  • The thickness of the board (2-4cm) provides additional insulation and noise insulation.
  • Risk of damaging the panel with some installation options.
  • Additional costs of money and time for periodic re-processing of wood.
  • Flammability of the starting material.

Metal block house.

Very promising and most importantly economical option designing a house as a block house. It appeared relatively recently, but has already gained popularity due to its excellent performance, low price and excellent appearance. It is mainly attached to a metal profile and is best used for exterior decoration of a house.

The main advantage of such a block house is its increased resistance to environment. The panels are fastened using self-tapping screws, which are drilled into a specially designed perforated fastening strip. This type of connection is simpler than wooden panels, but requires additional insulation. Usually wind/moisture is placed in such a sheathing protective film and mineral wool or polystyrene foam.

Advantages:

  • Price and Availability
  • Various colors
  • Easy to install
  • Increased resistance to external influences
  • Durability (warranty from 25 to 50 years)

Flaws:

  • The inability to restore the finish after the end of its service life (unlike wood, metal cannot be repainted or varnished).
  • In summer, at high temperatures, in a house covered with such a block house, it turns out to be a steam room due to the high heating of the metal.
  • Sometimes it's hard to hide mechanical damage such cladding.

Siding, vinyl, plastic.

The concept of siding includes all synthetic finishing options for a block house. Their undoubted advantage is the high range and greater availability of material. And due to the wide variety of siding panels, the possibility of arrangement various styles cladding performance.

Installation, as in the case of the metal version, occurs using threaded screws. But when applying external cladding, it is worth considering the susceptibility of such panels to temperature changes. Because of this, when installing them between panels (this most acutely concerns vinyl panels) a temperature “pocket” (gap) remains. It is necessary so that when the temperature rises (and, accordingly, the panel expands), the siding does not split or crack. On average, the gap is from 1 to 2 mm; it is worth considering that the panels themselves, when fastened with self-tapping screws, should also not be rigidly connected to the sheathing (you need to leave a gap between the cap and the panel of at least 1 mm).

These gaps reduce the effectiveness of the home's insulation. This problem can be solved at least a little by using plastic sheathing building. Due to the fact that the sheathing, like the siding itself, is subject to deformation and structural changes during temperature changes, rigid fastening to such a sheathing frame is allowed.

  • Price quality
  • Easy installation
  • Lots of design and layout options
  • No additional processing required
  • Attractive appearance
  • Poor resistance to temperature changes
  • Weak resistance to mechanical damage

Memo: only wooden look The house block can be considered a full-fledged wall. It has enough load-bearing capacity for a bookshelf or wall hanging; other types of block house are simply not designed for nails or screws to be driven into them (driving a nail for a picture into a metal or plastic block house is a big problem).

Video: fixing the block house

Episode four. Completion of installation. Difficulties.

Although it would seem that the question and installation stages are described above, you may encounter the following questions and problems.

Wooden block house.

  • Angles. The most difficult part of installation. Craftsmen with straight arms, cut out special grooves in the corners of the log house into which the panel board is laid. This method has a very attractive appearance. Less capable people cover the joints with the help of special corners, strips and slats (such strips are attached mainly with glue or liquid nails).
  • Another option is to cut the panels into a 90° angle. With this arrangement, the plank seems to fit into the plank of the adjacent wall and the result is an imitation of laying a log “in a bowl”
  • The second complication may be door and window openings. Fortunately, quite a few solutions can be found on the market to solve this problem. a large assortment various platbands that will hide the cracks and harmoniously fit the doors and windows into the overall picture of the house covered with a block house.

Video on how to make corners

Metal block house

The main problem when decorating this type of block house is the need to purchase additional additional elements (corners, panels to hide joints, plinths, etc.)

Siding, vinyl, plastic.

Like metal version requires a large number of additional additional elements. It is worth noting that thanks to a large number siding options and the general type of fastening of these panels, this option is the best suited for the noble cladding of your wooden house, at minimal financial costs.

It is worth remembering that finishing a house as a block house itself involves significant expenses, but:

  • If you decide to make your home in wooden style Even during the construction process, you can use glued or profiled timber (which is much cheaper solid log), and then finish it as a block house. You will get almost the same log house for a much lower price.
  • In the case where the log house has distorted the walls during the shrinkage process, as an option to correct the situation and give the log house the desired appearance.
  • When using cheap logs during the construction process in order to give nobility to the building.
  • As an additional means of insulation, protection from wind and moisture, as well as noise insulation of the room.
  • And finally, just to develop a flight of imagination and add originality to your home when creating a design.

As paradoxical as it may sound, wooden materials are best suited for finishing a wooden house. The use of other types of block houses is justified only in case of lack of finances, because there are no advantages synthetic material, cannot be compared with the beauty of natural wood.

And in the hope that by understanding how to attach a block house with your own hands, you will not miss the main thing, preserving the style of your log house, and will make a choice in favor of the material you need.

The modern construction industry offers a lot of options for exterior home decoration. This different kinds siding, tiles, artificial stone, sandwich panels and so on. IN Lately Finishing with such material as block house is becoming more and more popular. It has many advantages.

In this article, the site will tell you what kind of material this is and how to properly attach a block house.

Types of block house

Block house is a view facing material, which imitates a log frame of a tree. He can be:

  • wooden;
  • vinyl;
  • metal.

Wooden – environmentally friendly and natural material. The disadvantage is the fact that it is susceptible to rotting and fungal attack. However, this problem can be solved by processing with special means.

Vinyl is durable. It looks aesthetically pleasing, is easy to care for, and is almost indistinguishable from wood.

Metal is made of galvanized steel, which is coated polymer composition. Its advantage is its relatively low cost.

Installation procedure

In order for the cladding of the house to last as long as possible, you first need to carefully prepare the walls. Here are some important tips to keep in mind as you prepare:

  • If the walls are wooden, then you need to treat them with an antiseptic solution to protect them from fungus and mold;
  • You should take care of waterproofing. To do this, a special film is fixed to the walls. Special attention pay attention to the seams, because moisture can get through them. It is advisable to glue them with tape;
  • The sheathing is nailed onto this base. She might be from wooden beam or metal profile;
  • Insulation of the building. Mineral wool is usually used for this purpose. A windproof film is attached on top of it, which will additionally protect the building;
  • Direct paneling of the house.

Before installing the panels, you need to select fasteners for the block house. There are three ways to attach this material:

  • fastening using a clamp;
  • fastening with self-tapping screw;
  • fastening with a galvanized nail.

Let's look at each of these options:

  • The block house clamp is a special metal plate coated with chrome. This makes it resistant to wet environments. This plate must be inserted into the groove, after which it is connected to the sheathing with a self-tapping screw. At correct execution This operation makes the connection almost invisible. This method is best suited for fastening wood sheathing.
  • Fastening with a self-tapping screw is somewhat more complicated. To ensure that the panel tenon into which the self-tapping screw will be screwed does not crack, it must be pre-drilled. And then hit the screw exactly into this hole. This makes this method of fastening difficult, especially for a non-professional.
  • To secure the house block with a nail, it is driven into the panel tenon at an angle of 45 degrees. As mentioned above, the tenon can crack, so you need to drill a hole in it. It is better to “drown” the nail head a little.

The choice of fastening method for the huas block depends on the material from which the casing is made. After you decide on the type of siding, you can think about what to attach the block house to.

We install a wooden block house

You need to start installing such material from the bottom. In this case, the spike is directed upward. This will protect it from moisture. If not only the facade is being finished, but the entire house, then installation must be done on all walls at the same time. After finishing the covering they are attached additional elements– baseboards, corners.

For finishing external walls, it is better to choose wider panels. The choice of wood will depend on preferences and budget. There are both budget house blocks made of pine and more expensive ones made of valuable wood available for sale.

After installing the wooden panels, you need to let the structure stand for a while to finally accept the required form. Only after this is it worth covering the walls with varnish or stain. If you do this immediately after installation, unpainted stripes may appear on the walls, as the material will shrink over time.

Wall covering protective compounds you will have to repeat it periodically, because wood is a capricious material. In case you choose vinyl or metal siding, this procedure can be avoided.

We install vinyl and metal block houses

Galvanized nails or self-tapping screws are used to secure vinyl or metal sheathing. Holes are pre-drilled for fastening. Such material only needs to be fastened perpendicularly, otherwise it will affect the quality of the cladding. During installation, it is necessary to leave a small distance between the screw head and the panel, since this type of house block expands or contracts depending on the ambient temperature.

Despite the apparent simplicity and ease of installation, PaneliGid advises turning to professionals. They will tell you which sheathing material will be best in your case, tell you how the block house is attached, and install it efficiently in the shortest possible time.

The instructions for finishing a block house with your own hands are reminiscent of the technology for installing planken or other finishing material. Before you decide to cover the walls of your house with a blockhouse, you need to familiarize yourself with existing species material and rules for its fastening.

Types of wooden material and its choice

The semicircular shape of the blockhouse imitates a natural wooden frame. For interior and exterior work, there is a specific type of material, which primarily differs in thickness.
The external cladding of the house is made with boards 40-45 mm thick. Firstly, in addition to aesthetic functions, the blockhouse provides the building with additional heat and sound insulation. Secondly, street cladding is more susceptible to the harmful effects of natural phenomena. The tree will be in the rain, sun rays, severe frosts. To endure everything unfavourable conditions, a thicker board is needed.
For interior works a thinner blockhouse of 20-24 mm is used. It is mainly intended for interior decoration. Inside the house, extra thickness of finishing will only reduce the space in the rooms.
The blockhouse is made from different types of wood and is divided into several classes:

The walls inside the house are decorated with a class “A” or “Extra” blockhouse. The most common is class “A”, since sheathed walls acquire more natural look wooden log house. Monolithic cladding from the “Extra” class faintly resembles natural wood.
Do outdoor installation necessary from the “B” or “C” class board. Here the choice depends on the owner’s finances and his preferences.

Difference in fastening

Depending on the installation location, the blockhouse has different fastening methods:

Manufacturing of sheathing

When installing a house block inside a house, there is no need to install a frame. An exception can only be for a building with uneven walls. But for finishing the walls outside, you can’t do without lathing. One of the main functions of the structure is to create a flat surface for attaching panels and additional laying of insulation.

useful in work

When covering the walls of a house with a wooden block house, they usually make vertical sheathing; if you want to arrange the panels of the block house vertically, you will need horizontal-vertical lathing, which will lead to higher prices.

In natural wooden log houses, the logs are positioned only horizontally. The panels will be fixed to the frame in the same way.
The frame can be made from different materials. First stage The work consists of marking the walls. Starting from the very long wall at home, a fishing line is pulled along the level in the upper part. Using a plumb line, level and fix the fishing line along the wall on the lower part. Having aligned the line so that the wall is not blocked, they begin to mount the frame elements.

Wooden frame

This type of lathing is mainly installed to secure a wooden blockhouse on a log building. In the manufacture of a wooden frame, bars measuring 40x40 mm or planks measuring 20x50 mm are used. Just like the entire log house, they are treated with an antiseptic. The installation of the first element is done along a vertically stretched fishing line, the rest are placed horizontally at a distance of 400-600 mm from each other. If it is necessary to level the bars, wooden pads are placed under them. The structure is fixed to the wall of a wooden frame with self-tapping screws or nails.
If it is necessary to create a reinforced structure, additional beams are attached perpendicular to the main joists. The resulting counter-lattice method strengthens the frame, but also increases material consumption, which affects additional costs.

Metal carcass

Metal lathing is made from galvanized profile. To a greater extent, it is installed to decorate the outside of the building. As a finishing material for metal carcass install a metal house block and siding. According to the markings, spacers are attached to the wall (a metal strip that allows you to attach the profile from the wall at a distance of up to 120 mm, they are also called a crab, hanger or bracket) and bend them in the shape of the letter P along the cross section of the profile. The installation procedure for all elements is the same as in wooden frame. Only the process of aligning elements by level and plane differs. No pads are placed under the profile. It is leveled and fixed to the spacers. Self-tapping screws are used to fasten the profile.

For your information

Usage profile frame under siding or a metal blockhouse allows you to create a ventilated facade.

The distance between the vertical elements is maintained at 350-500 mm, this is due not only to the strength characteristics of the material, but to the size of the insulation boards. Depending on the thickness of the profile, it can be very flexible, in which case the structure must be reinforced with additional horizontal profiles.

Plastic frame

On modern market a new type of material has appeared - plastic profile. Its load-bearing capacity is higher than that of its galvanized counterpart. It is easy to install: it is attached to the walls of a wooden frame with self-tapping screws. The main requirement is to install the profile only on a flat surface. If the walls of the house are uneven, then a plastic profile for making a frame will not be suitable.

Fastening the block house to the frame

Having made and secured the sheathing to the walls, the main process of cladding the house begins. When starting to install a block house with your own hands, you need to remember that, regardless of the material, it is laid only horizontally, from bottom to top.

Wooden panels

Installation of wooden panels is the most difficult and expensive. The following methods of fastening the board are mainly used:

  • Fixing the board with a clamp ensures a strong connection of the board using the tongue-and-groove system. The clamp is a metal strip, one side of which is inserted into the groove of the panel, and the other side is screwed with a self-tapping screw to the sheathing joist. The gap between the boards caused by the clamps is sealed with a special paste that imitates the color of wood;
  • The second method of fixation is performed with nails or self-tapping screws. They are carefully driven into the “tenon” of the board and nailed to the joist;
  • A similar method of fastening into a “spike” nail boards or use a self-tapping screw to make it at an angle of 45°. This option is characterized by increased strength of material fixation but requires additional skills. Due to inexperience, you can break off the “thorn” and ruin the panel;
  • The through fastening of the blockhouse is done with nails or self-tapping screws. A hole is drilled through the panel and fixed to the joist so that the head of the fastener sinks into the wood. It is convenient to make a “sink” for the cap using a countersink. You can make your own countersink from a drill sharpened at an angle of 90° or 120°. The hole is hidden from above with a wooden plug, which is then sanded;
  • The outdated type of panels without a tongue-and-groove system is fixed through through holes or with a special adhesive composition indoors.

To hide the joints in the corners of the log house, grooves are cut out for the panel boards. A simpler option provides top mount decorative slats with glue. A beautiful connection is obtained by sawing the edge of the board at an angle of 90°. Door finishing and window openings made with a variety of platbands.

Metal panels

A good option for wall decoration is metal siding in the form of panels made to resemble a blockhouse. The panels are usually installed outside to decorate the building. They are fixed to a frame made of a metal profile with stainless self-tapping screws through longitudinal holes. Between the elements of the sheathing, insulation is laid from mineral wool or polystyrene foam. A vapor barrier film is stretched over the top and only then the panels are installed. Finishing corners and hiding all joints is done with additional additional elements.

Advice from the “façade designer”

If you like the vertical direction of the cladding, then a metal house block will be the way out of the situation. It can be mounted not only horizontally, but also vertically.

Plastic siding

A type of plastic material for a blockhouse is made in the form of siding. A wide range of acrylic and vinyl panels makes it possible to arrange them when facing a house. Fix plastic siding in the same way as metal panels– with stainless steel self-tapping screws into special grooves that are located on the purchased panels.

Choose those panels that were used in the manufacturing process. special materials non-flammable.

At external cladding walls between the siding elements make a temperature gap of about 2 mm. It protects the material from splitting during thermal expansion. This is due to changes in weather conditions. The siding is loosely screwed to the sheathing, maintaining a gap of 1 mm. The presence of numerous gaps in the cladding negatively affects the insulation of the building. Using plastic sheathing under the siding will help avoid this.

The plastic profile will be deformed due to temperature changes along with the siding. Therefore, they can be rigidly fastened without maintaining any gaps. To hide the gaps between siding elements, additional elements are used. By following the instructions, you can easily make the lathing yourself, insulate the walls and install the block house yourself.

Natural traditional Construction Materials have always been in fashion. At the same time, they have a lot of disadvantages and are not always convenient to use, which became the reason for refusing to use them.

However, there is a way to achieve the appearance of a home that looks like a building made from traditional materials, but is actually siding that imitates a certain texture. In this way you can repeat the brick or masonry, timber or log house using appropriate types of cladding.

The result has a high degree of realism, but is devoid of the disadvantages of traditional materials and is capable of performing, in addition to decorative, also additional functions protection from mechanical influences and the very important function of removing water vapor or, more simply put, drying the wall material. One type of such cladding is a block house.

Block house - material for external cladding, externally repeating a log house. To achieve this, each panel has a relief corresponding to the visible part of the log in the masonry. In cross section it is a segment of a circle. back side equipped with several longitudinal grooves, serving to compensate for expansion when humidity changes.

The side edges have a tongue and groove on opposite sides, with the help of which the sheathing fabric is assembled. This is the classic look of a block house, which is made from wood. The material has the natural color of the wood from which it is made and does not differ in the variety of colors.

However, during operation it is necessary to apply protective coating, which is periodically updated or changed, which allows you to change the color of the walls from time to time, keeping the cladding intact.

There are later options - . They are variants of conventional siding, the shape of the relief of which corresponds to the texture log wall. There are one- and two-wave samples with a single or double relief texture. They have their own specifications, characteristic of siding made of vinyl or galvanized steel and completely different from a wooden block house.

These materials are united only by their shape; the cladding of a wooden, vinyl or metal block house looks almost the same (with the exception of the color of the canvas, which can differ significantly from one to another) different types), installation method and operational requirements are different.

Wood species used for cladding

Natural block house is made of wood. The most common breeds I use are:

  • Pine. The most common type of wood in our country. Light weight, relatively clean structure. Various defects, blue discoloration, and resin pockets are often encountered.
  • Larch. Dense wood with expressive texture. Has a relatively large weight, is resistant to mechanical stress. Prone to geometry changes when stress increases during drying.
  • Spruce. Relatively light and soft breed, characterized by a large number of knots. Of all the conifers, it is the least used.

In addition to conifers, there is material from deciduous trees:

  • Birch. The densest and heaviest. Easily releases and gains moisture. Durable, easy to process and polish.
  • Alder. The wood is clean and relatively soft. Relatively resistant to atmospheric moisture. There are few defects and flaws. The weight of alder panels is light.
  • Linden. Clean and light wood with low weight. Low density, soft. Requires careful handling and mandatory prompt application of a protective coating.

When purchasing, you should pay attention to the type of wood from which the block house is made, since each type of wood has its own characteristics that you need to know about. For example, conifers contain a certain amount of resin, which to some extent preserves the material, slowing down the accumulation and removal of moisture.

Hardwood, on the contrary, quickly gains or easily releases moisture, but this continues until the time of final aging. If the material is immediately coated with a protective paint layer, the aging process of the wood slows down, but contact with moisture also stops, preserving the structure of the material in its original state.

To protect wood, a thick surface layer is not as important as deep impregnation of the wood with materials such as drying oil or special impregnating oils. Their composition may be incompatible with some types of varnishes or paints, which should be taken into account when choosing a topcoat.

Methods of fastening wooden cladding

Installation of wooden panels is carried out different ways, of which the main ones can be identified:

Fastening with nails or screws through the front surface. The fixation is strong and reliable, but visible nail or screw heads significantly degrade the appearance of the sheathing.

Hidden mount. The nail or screw is screwed through the tenon; after installing the next panel, the head is hidden inside the groove. The method makes it possible to hide the heads of the fasteners, but there is a danger of splitting the tenon or creating an obstacle to the tight assembly of the panels.

Sometimes they use the technique of driving nails (screwing screws) at an angle, which eliminates interference during assembly, but in practice this method is quite complicated, and the panels often end up split.

Fastening panels to clamps (clasps). Most good option. The panel is not exposed to any impact. The clamp is attached to the sheathing (installation over insulation is possible). It has a special bracket that grips the bottom of the groove and firmly presses the panel to the base, and installing the next panel closes the clamp from view.

It turns out completely hidden mount, which does not destroy the body of the panel and does not threaten the appearance of cracks, chips or dents. This installation does not require any special skills; all actions are simple and intuitive.

NOTE!

For installing a wooden block house, the most convenient way is a lathing made of wooden planks, which is more accessible for screwing screws at any angle and allows the use of nails.

Methods of fastening other types of block houses

In addition to wood, vinyl and metal panels are produced. The installation method for both types is exactly the same and does not have many options, since siding has a strictly regulated installation procedure that does not allow changes.

The design of the panels consists of a convex part - a wave, a locking part and a nail strip. The last two elements are invisible, they serve to fix the panel on support system. The locking part snaps into the corresponding profile of the previous panel or into starting bar, and the nail strip, which has many oblong mounting holes, is attached to the sheathing using self-tapping screws.

In this case, the main condition must be met: the screws are not screwed in all the way, the panel must be able to move within the hole in both directions without resistance. The screws are tightened strictly perpendicular to the surface and exactly in the middle of the hole so that the power reserve in both directions is the same. This is done so that the panel can change its position when heating or cooling.

Unlike a wooden block house, vinyl and metal samples have high coefficient temperature expansions, so you have to take it into account during installation and leave the possibility of slight movement.

It is not possible to change the installation method. Firstly, the mounting holes must have a certain form, fastening through ordinary drilled hole will deprive the panel of the ability to move, and this is fraught with undesirable consequences. Secondly, in any other place the head of the screw will become visible, which will ruin the appearance of the canvas.

CAREFULLY!

Before starting installation, you should read the instructions that come with the material in order to understand the installation method for this type of panel or possible individual characteristics material.

Installation of a block house depends entirely on the type of material. Traditional wood panels have several acceptable installation options that do not affect the performance of the material. The craftsman will need to have certain skills in working with wood (for sawing joints at 45°, etc.). Vinyl or metal types require compliance with specific rules, which cannot be changed without deteriorating performance or appearance.

The procedure for installing siding is described in detail in the instructions that are included with the material upon sale. It should be carefully studied to avoid mistakes.
