Boiler safety group in the heating system

The remaining elements are responsible for the performance of the entire heating system:

  • formation of a circulation flow of coolant in pipelines;
  • control and distribution of coolant flows through individual pipelines and heating devices;
  • removing impurities and cleaning the heating fluid;
  • compensation for expansion or contraction when temperature changes depending on the operating mode of the boiler.

The heating safety group is not installed in all heating systems. Some people don't know about it, others simply ignore it. But practice proves that safe and uninterrupted heating operation depends on the normal functioning of this group of devices.

Security Group Assignment

The safety group for the boiler is formed from several separate devices. They are placed on a separate collector. Stainless steel or brass is used to make the mounting manifold.

To fix each device, its own seats are created. The collector itself is connected to the heating system using a threaded coupling.

The seats are intended for installation:

  • pressure gauge, it controls the coolant pressure in the heating system;
  • automatic air vent, which is designed to remove air from the coolant in automatic mode. There is a float inside; while it is afloat, air is not removed from the system. If an air bubble enters, the float lowers and the valve opens slightly to allow the bubble to escape;
  • . It is installed in case the specified pressure is exceeded. It will open and part of the coolant will come out of the heating system.

Basic devices included in the heating safety group

A bunch of instruments are working: pressure gauge – automatic air vent – safety valve, in the following way.

  1. In the event of an emergency, the pressure begins to rise.
  2. Part of the steam enters the air vent, the float goes down, releasing the steam out.
  3. If the pressure continues to increase, the safety valve is activated. It opens and part of the coolant is removed from the system.

The likelihood of such a situation occurring is assessed by experts as possible. Statistics of accidents in individual heating systems are recorded by gas service specialists; they are entrusted with monitoring the operation of millions of heating systems in multi-storey buildings and the private sector. Statistics show that such emergency situations occur at the height of the heating season.

Therefore, representatives of the gas service argue that a safety group for heating is not always necessary, but at the request of the homeowner it can be installed in any system for safety. Probably no one wants to find themselves with a non-working heating system when it is freezing and windy outside their living space.

Gas is not used everywhere to operate heating devices. The share of individual boiler houses using solid fuel is very high. For solid fuel boiler Modes are possible when the coolant is heated to a temperature above the design values. This is where a solid fuel boiler safety group will prove necessary. It will prevent damage to boiler equipment.

Some settlements have small boiler rooms designed for heating and hot water supply of several houses. They use liquid fuel. These boiler houses are maintained by the residents themselves. For such cases, a heating boiler safety group should be installed in any system to be on the safe side.

Structural elements of the device

Typically, all heating boiler safety group devices are purchased as a set. Therefore, the manufacturer made sure that each device was configured according to optimal mode operation.

Safety valve

At normal operation heating system, an expansion tank installed above all pipelines and heating devices compensates for the expansion of the coolant. Depending on the specified operating mode, a certain temperature is set at the outlet of the heat generator. The amount of liquid in the expansion tank changes.

Usually the performance of this unit is not satisfactory. With prolonged use, sometimes the pipe becomes clogged with scale, the flow area gradually decreases, and then disappears completely. Users rarely notice this malfunction, since it is impossible to visually determine it. The defect that has arisen is hidden inside the pipe leading to the expansion tank. If the pressure increases and there is no safety group for the heating boiler, one or more elements of the heating system will be destroyed.

Sectional view of a safety valve for a heating system

If a safety group is installed, the safety valve will release excess coolant. The boiler and pipelines will remain intact. The user will see the presence of water discharge. Service departments or the user will independently determine the malfunction and eliminate the cause.

Before everyone heating season you need to check the functionality of the safety valve. It will take a little time.

  1. There is a handle on the top; you need to turn it in the direction of the arrow.
  2. Water will flow.
  3. Turn in the opposite direction.
  4. The water should stop flowing - the safety valve is working.
  5. Another option: the water continues to flow.
  6. In this case, you need to repeat opening and closing several times in a row.
  7. Practice shows that these actions are enough to slightly grind the valve into the seat.
  8. The leak stops.
  9. If water continues to drain, the safety valve must be replaced immediately.

In private homes, safety valves are used that are designed for pressures up to 3 bar.

Pressure gauge

The pressure gauge monitors the operation of the heating system. There are two arrows on the pressure gauge:

  • The black arrow shows the actual pressure - this is the working arrow;
  • red is installed when setting up the system before starting heating boiler, it serves as a guide in the work.

Axial and radial pressure gauges

In individual houses, the operating pressure is 2-3 bar. But the pressure gauge itself must be designed for a pressure of at least 4 bar.

Automatic air vent

It is advisable to install an automatic air vent above the entire heating system, since the air is also located at the top. Some users believe that it is enough to install a Mayevsky tap on heating devices, and then, when filling pipelines and heating systems, release the existing air to the outside. This will remove most of the existing air. Practice has shown that during operation, residual air circulates through pipes and radiators, reducing operating efficiency.

Automatic corner air vent

Will remove air and steam bubbles automatically. Often, when starting up a boiler in the fall, many people observe the operation of this device. It is characterized by a slight hissing sound coming from the heating safety group.

Main types of heating safety groups

The heating boiler safety group is produced by different manufacturers, therefore design can be different. Despite their differences, all devices are guaranteed to perform their function.

Types of heating safety groups

The table shows the main models of security groups. In fact, other products are entering the market in which manufacturers provide their own options for manufacturing collectors with devices installed on them. Protection system devices can be installed in in different order. The main thing is the presence of all three devices on the working panel.

Where to install the security unit?

Many people are interested in where and how a security group is installed. It is known that boilers are produced in several versions:

  • wall-mounted boilers with compulsory system removal flue gases have a safety group established in advance by the boiler manufacturer;
  • floor-standing boilers, unless it is indicated that the safety group is installed during the manufacturing process of the boiler, require separate installation.

Since boilers are mainly installed in a separate room, safety devices should also be placed in it.

Security group installation

Installation instructions

There are several basic requirements that must be met:

  • the safety group for the boiler should be located in such a place that the pressure gauge readings can be easily read;
  • for the convenience of checking the operation of the safety valve, it is installed in the homeowner’s access area;
  • installed devices that ensure safe operation of the heating system should not interfere with operation;
  • during installation, it is necessary to install a ball shut-off valve in the gap in order, if necessary, to dismantle the safety group without disturbing the operating mode of the heating system;
  • it should be located above all pipelines and heating devices.

Scheme electric heating with setting a security group

There are few requirements, and they are not difficult to fulfill during installation.

Popular manufacturers and prices

Heating systems safety groups issue different manufacturers. Several companies have gained the most popularity; their brand is recognizable. They are often recommended by installers for heating installations in private homes.

The price range is small. If you evaluate the cost of the elements that make up the home heating system, you will notice that the price of the safety group will be less than 1%. Taking into account the installation of all these devices, the price will be even lower.

A safety group for heating is an important and necessary element of the heating system, which at a relatively low price will reduce the risks of operation in winter.

Security Group – required element any sealed heating system. In the event of any problems related to the heating of a private home, emergency situations and accidents, it is the safety group for the heating boiler that will most likely prevent critical breakdowns, such as a rupture of a pipeline line, radiators or boiler, stopping the flow of coolant, etc. However, in order for it to really perform its assigned function, you should understand the operating principle of the devices included in its composition and select a group with optimal characteristics.

The security group consists of only three elements:

  • Pressure gauge – for measurement and indication overpressure in the heating circuit.
  • Automatic air vent - for gradual and regular removal of gases that are formed during heating operation.
  • Safety valve (explosive), triggered when the maximum permissible pressure and discharging part of the coolant into the sewer.

There is no strict standardization for the production of a security group, just as there are no requirements for installing it in the form of a ready-made unit on a prepared console. It is enough to install the listed devices separately, but when assembled they are easier to install and provide convenient access for monitoring and performing all necessary preventive procedures.

Why do you need a security group?

To understand this, you should look at the functions of each device in the group. The pressure gauge allows you to measure the actual value of excess pressure. By changing the value, you can judge the operation of the heating, the presence of problems or deviations. If a decrease in pressure is detected, the tightness of the circuit may have been damaged and a leak has occurred, or the pressure in the air chamber has dropped in the expansion tank.

The boiler constantly maintains the water temperature at the set level. For this, an automation unit and temperature-sensitive sensors are used that monitor the condition of the boiler and water in the heat exchanger.

Malfunctions automatic control are fraught with overheating of the coolant until it boils. This will lead to a sharp jump in pressure in the system, and the weakest link may simply not be able to withstand it.

In addition to boiling, there is a risk of gas pockets forming in the pipes, which also increases the pressure uncontrollably and also stops the movement of the coolant.

The heat exchanger, pipes or radiator will simply burst under pressure exceeding the permissible limit, and the coolant will rush into the room under pressure.

The safety valve is the last line of defense for the heating circuit against overpressure. As soon as the value exceeds the permissible threshold, the valve is activated and drains a portion of the coolant into the sewer. As soon as there is less water in the circuit, the pressure drops, which prevents significant breakdowns.

The air vent removes the gas formed in the coolant volume. Ideally, only coolant should be present in the pipes, boiler and radiators.

The coolant itself contains a portion of dissolved air, which over time can group into bubbles and air pockets due to temperature changes or the effect of cavitation.

Polymer pipes that are not reinforced with a continuous layer of aluminum foil allow oxygen to pass into the pipes, which, when accumulated, forms bubbles and, among other things, accelerates the corrosion of metals.

Contact of water with aluminum when the protective oxide film is damaged is accompanied by violent chemical reaction with the release of hydrogen.

All these problems are solved by an automatic air vent. It works constantly and does not require user attention. As bubbles accumulate in the water, they are transported with the coolant along the circuit. The air vent is installed at the highest point of the circuit and therefore, under the influence of Archimedean force, bubbles sooner or later enter the air vent chamber. As soon as the filling of the chamber exceeds the set limit, the damper is activated and the air is released outside.

Choice

It is important to select a security group that exactly matches the characteristics assembled system heating. Each element of the group, pressure gauge, safety valve and air vent has its own technical and operational characteristics, which must exactly meet the requirements of the heating project.

Manufacturers offer ready-made solutions and assembling a safety group based on the most common options for heating a house, for various boilers and wiring methods.

Before making your selection, please read carefully technical manual to your boiler. If it is a wall-mounted gas or electric boiler, then it already has a safety group, which is fully consistent with its parameters, so there is no need to duplicate it. In case of floor-standing boilers, solid fuel, stoves and fireplaces with a water circuit, in most cases there is no built-in equipment or piping. Read about how to choose a heating boiler.

All elements of a security group are pinned to a single console. This is actually a pipe with prepared triplets for connecting equipment and two outlets for inclusion in the heating circuit.

When choosing, you should clarify:

  • Diameter for connection pipes (1’, ¾’, ½’).
  • Connection option (corner, bottom, side, etc.), from which side the pipes should be brought to the safety group, and how exactly to orient it.

In any case, the air vent is mounted at the top point of the group. So it should remain connected. Below it there is a pressure gauge and a safety valve. This is done to ensure that air accumulating in the air chamber does not affect the pressure gauge readings and the operation of the explosion valve.

Material for the manufacture of the safety console: nickel, stainless steel, bronze, cast iron.

Cast iron is used only for high-pressure and efficient heating systems with a large cross-section of pipes in the distribution. These are mainly collective industrial boiler houses. For a private home, it is better to choose nickel or stainless steel. In this case, the console and equipment can simply be covered with an outer casing made of black cast iron for additional protection.

Pressure gauge

Two main characteristics:

  • permissible measurement range (upper and lower limit);
  • accuracy of measurement and indication of readings (scale and error).

The measurement range must cover, with a margin of 0.5-1 bar, the nominal pressure in the system and permissible deviations during operation.

Let’s say that the nominal pressure for heating is 3 atm. The permissible deviation downward will be equal to 1.5 atmospheres. A decrease below 1.5 atm will be considered a signal for an emergency. The upper limit will be 4.5-5 atm, after which the safety valve should inevitably operate. Accordingly, the pressure gauge range should be from 1 to 5-6 atm. It is desirable that the scale be as accurate as possible and indicate areas of attention. In this case, the scale is divided conditionally into 3-4 zones, marked with color markers, so that even with a quick glance you can react to any deviations.

Air vent

Characterized by the operating pressure in the system and response parameters. Almost all automatic valves are adjustable to set the optimal pressure and response conditions. If you set the adjustment knob to the minimum position, then at the slightest accumulation of air the valve will operate. At the maximum setting, the valve operates less frequently, but accumulates more air. It is difficult to say which installation would be more appropriate. It is easier to leave the factory settings unchanged if the heating system is installed independently.

Safety valve

The main parameter of the valve is the response pressure. The upper pressure limit in the circuit, upon reaching which the valve opens and releases part of the coolant. It is based on this characteristic that you should choose a security group first. The response pressure can be adjusted only within small limits.

It is useful to clarify in advance how to install the safety group and determine how and in which direction the valve discharges water. The discharge fitting should be oriented away from the main equipment and the heating boiler. It is necessary to select a hose for draining into the sewer.

Manufacturers

Popular manufacturers include: Afriso, APC-therm, Fado, ICMA, SandiPlus, Watts. By country, these are products from Germany, Italy or China. There are also domestically assembled products, the quality of which is not inferior to foreign analogues, moreover, they are designed for our realities with regard to the quality of the coolant and the operating conditions of the heating system.

Security groups can start at $25. In this case, its configuration or connection method does not matter.

Security group connection method

The safety group is connected as close as possible to the boiler, but at the top point of the circuit. The section of pipe from the boiler to the group should be as flat as possible without elbows or shut-off valves (only ball valves are suitable that do not narrow the channel cross-section). This is necessary for adequate operation of the safety valve, and so that the air is gradually pushed out to the air vent under the influence of Archimedean force.

For solid fuel boilers, a section is first formed steel pipe at least a meter long, even taking into account the lower wiring and forced circulation so that excess heat from the heat exchanger and boiler walls does not transfer to the group, eliminating overheating.

Any device that heats and operates under pressure immediately falls into the high-risk category. However, a person cannot always control the operation of a boiler room (temperature, serviceability of parts, pressure). In this regard, the safety group is considered the most important element, automatically ensuring the serviceability and trouble-free operation of the entire heat supply system. It is a combined device or an entire mechanism consisting of a number of different devices.

Peculiarities

Previously, throttle washers were installed to control water pressure in home heating systems. With their help, it was possible to achieve an increase in hydraulic resistance. But production does not stand still, so now such devices have faded into the background.

Emergencies in heating systems, as a rule, occur due to excess pressure or excessive heating of the boiler. In these cases, the consequences can be not just unpleasant, but even dangerous: boiler rupture, complete system failure, coolant leakage, flooding or fire. It is in order to eliminate the likelihood of such failures that a safety unit is used, with the help of which the required coolant pressure is achieved. All modern devices of this type automatically regulate both temperature and pressure.

This system can be installed on any type of heating equipment, but it is not always necessary. Some boilers have their own quite high level safety (for example, those that burn diesel fuel or natural gas). In turn, solid fuel sources absolutely require a safety unit.

Principle of operation

Each heating system has its own specific maximum pressure values. This is directly affected by the degree of heating and cooling of the liquid that is in the network. As described above, due to the fact that the pressure begins to exceed the norm, significant damage can occur. To understand how the safety unit helps to avoid the consequences of emergency situations, it is worth considering the principle of its operation.

The set of parts of the safety unit may vary depending on the purpose for which the main unit is used, but in the basic configuration the system contains only three modules, which are built into the housing. This is a pressure gauge, an air vent (Maevsky tap) and a safety valve.

Let us examine in more detail the purpose of all three elements.

  • A pressure gauge is measuring device, with which you can quickly monitor pressure readings. Its most important function is to determine the most accurate data. But, like any device, it has certain errors. The measuring units in pressure gauges are either bars or atmospheres, but the first option remains the most popular.

For each heating system, there are pressure values that are the maximum permissible. The norm is considered to be a pressure of 1.5 atmospheres.

  • An automatic air vent is used to remove excess air from the system. Typically this part is made of brass. As you know, there should be no air in any heating system. It accumulates for several reasons. This could be a setup rubber seals poor quality, blockage inside the pipeline, improper installation of the heating system. Also, the water that enters the system contains a sufficient amount of oxygen. It is this that contributes to the formation of air traffic jams.

Another function of this part is that it emits portions of steam that are formed if the boiler overheats.

  • Safety valve plays important role. It is necessary to eliminate excess fluid from a closed system. In other words, it serves as protection in the event that the automatic retractor does not work. A brass alloy is used to produce this element. It consists of two parts: a steel spring and a membrane. The coolant is discharged using the valve in such a way that it does not reach a person. The use of a fuse is especially important in systems that are equipped with steam boilers.

As can be understood from the descriptions, each part of the security unit performs its own specific functions. The elements can either be located separately, in different parts of the pipeline, or be in a single bundle. There is also another option for completing the system. It has a hydraulic shock absorber added to it, protecting the pressure gauge from the effects of the environment.

The equipment as a whole operates according to a certain simple scheme. If for some reason the expansion tank cannot compensate for the expansion of the coolant, and the closed system is subjected to high pressure, then the pressure in the bowels of the equipment also increases. At this moment, the safety valve comes into operation. Its spring compresses and the valve opens. This way the excess coolant has the opportunity to escape, excess air comes out through the air vent.

It is worth noting that the use of this group is especially necessary in private houses and apartments in which old boiler rooms or gas boilers are installed.

This is due to the fact that in such systems there is often too little draft inside the chimney. In the pipeline itself, the pressure can also become either too low or too high. Due to such problems, gas contamination of the room is possible.

Installation

As a rule, the system is sold in a basic configuration with all necessary details and devices. You can assemble and install the security unit with your own hands without much effort. It's a pretty quick process. You don’t have to buy a ready-made set, but in this case each part must be carefully selected. The cost of a homemade security group will be approximately 2 times less than a ready-made one. To install the unit correctly, you need to familiarize yourself with some of the nuances of the work.

For self-assembly you will need:

  • emergency valve;
  • automatic air vent;
  • pressure gauge;
  • a pair of corners (one with internal and the other with external thread);
  • adapters;
  • crosspiece;
  • nipple;
  • gas keys;
  • sealing agent;

The process of assembling the structure begins with the corners being connected to the cross. At this stage, linen is used, it should cover the entire perimeter of the thread. After this it is not distributed a large number of sealant, corners are screwed in wrenches. The installation of the other three main elements also occurs.

If a safety group for heating has been purchased or has already been assembled, it is necessary to check that all its parts are functioning correctly and make sure that there are no leaks. Then you can install the system.

You should choose a place for installation so that you can easily see the pressure gauge readings. In addition, there must be no other elements between the boiler and the safety unit, as this could contribute to an accident.

The crane should also not be located in front of the structure. This error is very common. If allowed, the group will not be able to fulfill its intended purpose.

There are two ways to install a security group:

  • mounting on a bushing coming from the boiler;
  • by cutting into the pipeline, which is located at the outlet of the heat generator.

It is worth connecting a plastic tube to the emergency valve so that the other end is connected to a container or directly to the sewer. This will make using the equipment even safer. During installation, you should also take into account that the safety valve and air vent must be located in a vertical position. Upon completion of installation, the safety group is activated using a cap on the air duct. It needs to be opened, but not removed completely.

Thus, for proper installation of emergency equipment, it is worth observing several simple rules, then installation will be easy and without any consequences.

  • The safety unit must be installed first on the pipeline. This is the most important point, which you need to remember.
  • The distance from the pipe to the system should be no more than 1.5 meters.
  • It is impossible to install different shut-off valves, otherwise the safety system will be cut off.

Any owner of a private house simply physically cannot be constantly in the boiler room in order to monitor the health of the heating system, the pressure indicator and the temperature of the coolant. The main assistants for this are auxiliary devices that automatically monitor the operation of an electric boiler or other equipment. The boiler safety group is the main link that is responsible for trouble-free operation.

This device will protect your heating system

Device structure

As a rule, the reasons for disrupting the normal functioning of a closed boiler are an increase in pressure or a significant overflow of the pipeline with a coolant, that is, water. The heat exchanger is the first section in the boiler, which reacts to these deviations, and therefore it quickly fails.

To avoid these problems in the heating system, a boiler safety group is used. Using this unit, the required coolant pressure in pipes and radiator batteries is achieved. During periods of excessive pressure, excess heated water is discharged.

From this video you will learn how a security group works:

Various emergency situations that arise, for example excessive heating of the heating boiler, increase the pressure in the pipeline. During strong heating, the water begins to expand; a closed water heating system is not designed for this - there is no additional reserve provided here.

Result high blood pressure- breakdown of boiler equipment or rupture of the pipeline. To regulate the pressure and, during a potential threat, reduce it to the required value, you will need to install a boiler safety group.

The design consists of the following elements: safety valve, pressure gauge and automatic air release. All these devices are housed in a metal case with threaded connections.

Lack of a security group can lead to equipment failure

Air vent

Most often, automatic air vents for boiler safety systems are made of brass. Air bubbles in the heating system are formed for the following reasons:

  • seals of poor quality or failure of old ones;
  • initial filling of the heating line with water with air bubbles;
  • incorrect installation or incorrect commissioning of the heating system;
  • water replenishment;
  • clogged or deposited pipes.

The water entering the heating circuit contains a large amount of air, which, when heated, expands and creates plugs. Due to their formation, pressure increases and the speed of movement of the coolant decreases.

Therefore, it is advisable to install an automatic air release valve, which is characterized by ease of operation - it does not require human intervention during adjustment.

The operating principle of this device will depend entirely on its design. Typically, an automatic valve includes a valve and a channel. The first element controls the release of excessive air. If there is no significant liquid pressure in the pipes, the float is in the raised position and the valve is in the “closed” position.

During the formation of a plug, the float lowers and the rocker opens the outlet valve - this is how air is released from the heating pipes. After excess air is released, the float returns to its original position and the valve closes.

The automatic valve will be the most practical option

Measuring pressure with a pressure gauge

The operation of the pressure gauge is designed to determine the fluid pressure in the heating system. This device is used to quickly obtain and adjust the required indicators. Any pointer instrument has a certain error during measurements, which is scattered in this way: along the edges of the dial it highest value, in the center - the smallest.

For any device that measures pressure, the accompanying instructions indicate the maximum possible level of coolant pressure that the mechanism can withstand. Atmospheres or bars are used as units of measurement in pressure gauges. But the last method of measurement has the greatest application.

Bars are closer to technical and physical atmospheres:

  • 1 bar = 10.198 meters of water column;
  • technical atmosphere (1 atm.) = 10 m;
  • physical atmosphere (1 atm.) = 10.34 m.

Pressure 2 atm. - this is a standard indicator of pressure in pipes of domestic heating systems. For home use a pressure gauge is enough the highest indicator at 5 atm.

Safety valve

In a heating system, the safety valve plays an important role. This is a protective device designed for heat generators. Its main task is to reduce loads during emergency situations.

This is true for systems that are equipped with a steam boiler. But appear high pressure may also be due to the following faults:

  1. A sharp increase in temperature indicators in circuit heating.
  2. The amount of incoming liquid exceeds permissible limits Due to irregularities in the functioning of the automation.

The device can also regulate the movement of coolant in the heating circuit. This is a stamped device that consists of a brass body and is equipped with a metal spring and membrane.

Most often, when a fuse trips, approximately 150 g of heated coolant must be removed to restore the functioning of the heating system.

Forced opening of a security group is one of the ways to check the unit

Due to the flexibility of the membrane, it is possible to set the required pressure coefficient that acts on it. Accordingly, the membrane closes the exit to the outside. By compressing the spring in the safety lock, the operation of the protective mechanism is regulated.

This mechanism must be adjusted so that the maximum permissible fluid pressure is 20% higher than the operating pressure. The valve adjustment process is carried out annually before the heating season.

The functionality of the device can be checked by forcing it to open. This must be done with some frequency so that the mechanism does not become clogged with various deposits while it is inoperative.

Principle of operation

If an open expansion tank is installed in the boiler equipment system, then installation of a safety group is not required - the pressure in the pipes is equal to atmospheric pressure, and an excessive amount of air leaves the system through the tank.

The safety group for the heating boiler works according to a very simple scheme , when each block is responsible for maintaining the norms of specified indicators:

  1. The main job of the air vent is to discharge air that enters the pipes during operation.
  2. The safety valve prevents significant pressure levels from appearing in the heat generator.
  3. Thanks to the pressure gauge, the owner of a private house will be able to regulate the pressure level while filling the pipeline with coolant, as well as later during operation of the boiler.

All modules are a single unit and are located in a special housing - a manifold.

Features of choice

For any model of protective group, the instructions indicate acceptable parameters. The main criteria that influence the choice of device:

  • maximum coolant temperature;
  • thermal performance indicators of boiler equipment;
  • thread diameter for connection (if necessary, you can buy an additional adapter);
  • compatibility with thermal fluid;
  • nominal pressure.

A competent choice of unit power can provide reliable protection boiler equipment from various violations during operation of the heating circuit.

Review of the best models

Among the most popular manufacturers that produce protective fittings are companies such as Valtec and Watts.

The Watts company has become famous for its huge range of different devices for the heating system, among them the protective block has an important place. The KSG model range has different threaded body devices, which differ in size and material of production.

Additionally, certain devices are sold with a thermal insulation casing. Products of the KSG model range are typically equipped with a relief valve, which is designed for a maximum value of 3 bar. Installation into the heating main is carried out using a special connector with a thread inside.

Valtec is not inferior in quality to this brand. The company is represented by the lineup devices for boiler equipment and expansion tanks - series VT495 and VT460. VT460 products are designed to work with domestic heating boilers with a power of no more than 45 kW and a pressure of no more than 3 bar.

But the cost of factory-made devices is quite high, so it is advisable to make this unit yourself.

Before self-assembly security groups do not forget to prepare the appropriate tool

Self-assembly

There should be no difficulties during the manufacture of the security unit. To start the process, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • pressure gauge;
  • relief valve;
  • wrench and gas wrench;
  • air vent;
  • two squares;
  • crosspiece;
  • union;
  • sanitary linen;
  • sealant;
  • adapters.

The angles are screwed into the cross. For a tight connection, plumbing flax is wound onto the thread, evenly distributing it over the surface. A small layer of sealant must be applied on top. Then, using a wrench, screw the squares into the crosspiece perpendicular to each other.

Then you need to install an air vent, a safety valve and a pressure gauge. If the parts have different thread sections, adapters are used. After the final assembly of all elements, the operation of the product must be tested under pressure - the unit should not leak, and all parts must be in working position.

Connection to the heating system

Before connecting the boiler safety group, you need to correctly determine the installation location. In this case, there are some rules that must be followed:

  1. This should be a horizontal part of the pipes near the heat generator at the water outlet after the boiler.
  2. In certain boilers, it is possible to install a protective block on the device itself, for which a connector is provided in the upper part of the heat generator.
  3. The distance from the boiler to the protection unit must be at least 2 m.
  4. For pipes that are directed upward from the boiler equipment, for example to the second floor, you need to make a branch. This is done using a corner so that the protective block can be positioned horizontally.
  5. For fairly powerful boiler equipment, an additional protection unit may be required.

Another important requirement: locking devices are not installed between the boiler and the protective block. In this case, it is more expedient to install the protective group up to the first shut-off valve, which is located on the circuit.

It is necessary to make sure in time that the safety valve is working: after installation, simply open the cap in the direction indicated on the arrow of the device.

After installing the protective group, you need to make sure that all blocks are working correctly. Before starting the air vent, you need to unscrew the cap from the top and bleed the air. Then the cap is returned to its original state, but the device must be slightly open.

Most people believe that the protective group is an ordinary device, and its connection is not necessary. But a negligent attitude to such an issue will not protect boiler equipment and the heating system itself from rupture if the pressure changes significantly, which is not uncommon in a closed-type circuit.

Installing a heating system in a residential area is a crucial moment that requires certain knowledge. In addition to reliable connection of the entire structure, constant monitoring of the pressure of the water flow in the pipes should be ensured. For remote control There is a boiler safety group installed in a closed hydraulic system. This small detail will be especially useful for owners of heating systems based on solid fuel or gas boilers. Installing the device does not require professional skills; standard plumbing tools will be sufficient.

The figure shows a tee, which represents an integral safety group of the boiler. The brass manifold is connected to a closed water supply system using a coupling, and the main elements are located on the top of the distributor:

  • Safety valve
  • Air vent
  • Pressure gauge

Operating principle and benefits

Each of the elements plays a specific role to avoid emergency situations when operating gas and solid fuel boilers.

  • If the fire in the boiler goes out, the water will begin to cool and over time it will expand, which will lead to an increase in pressure in the pipes. The water release valve protects the system from rupture by eliminating excess liquid.
  • The metal housing of the air vent contains a float connected to the outlet plug. Depending on the amount of air in the pipeline, the float automatically opens and closes the outlet valve.
  • The dial with arrows displays the pressure in the entire system. The maximum indicator is 6 Bar. Various models boilers have their own pressure limits for safe operation, you should familiarize yourself with them before installation.

The benefits of the boiler safety group will become noticeable after several months of use - you will be able to save on the services of a plumber. The heating system will operate without failures and will not require constant supervision of its operation.

Selecting the appropriate security group

When choosing a protecting group, pay attention Special attention on the following aspects:

  • Index maximum power boiler for which the protective device is designed.
  • The pressure at which the system will operate. Depending on the manufacturer, the figure can vary from 4 to 10 Bar.
  • Permissible temperature of water circulating in the pipeline. The models presented on the market allow a flow of no higher than 120˚C.
  • Compatible with various coolants: steam, water or antifreeze flows.
  • Study the principle and thread of the connection so that you don’t have to look for additional adapters and seals later.

In order for the security group to work more efficiently, before purchasing the device, you need to accurately calculate the power of your home boiler. Formula for calculation:

S is the area of the house.

U is climatic conditions (the indicator depends on the region of the country):

  • South - 0.9 kW
  • Moscow and region - 1.5 kW
  • Middle band - 1.2 kW
  • North - 2 kW

If the room is not insulated, we add 50-55% of the resulting product to the boiler power. As a result, the average price of the device in Russia ranges from 1,500 to 1,700 rubles.

Installation rules and features

It is important to remember that the boiler safety group is installed only in closed system heat supply. The device is useless in a design with an expansion tank, since it is the open container that protects the system.

Installation of a tee in a closed system

  • Selecting a location for installation. This should be a pipe coming out of the heating boiler. Installation is carried out in a horizontal position at the top of the pipeline.
  • The distance between the boiler and the appliance should not exceed 50 cm.
  • There should be no taps or branches between the heat generator and the tee.
  • The air outlet is located strictly vertically. When you first start the system, you need to unscrew its cap a little to let out excess air, then screw it back on, but not all the way.

In some models of boilers with wood and coal fuel The manufacturer provides in advance a pipe for mounting a group of sensors - there is no need to independently search for a site for installation.

It happens that a consumer does not want to spend money on an expensive part from imported manufacturers and chooses the option of assembling a security group on his own. Accessories for protective device can be found in hardware stores. Some tips for choosing:

  • Do not purchase too cheap parts, for example from Chinese manufacturers. Sensor failure may occur during the first operation, or the valves may not respond to increased pressure at all. You can find inexpensive parts from domestic suppliers.
  • Buy a direct type air vent. An angled outlet increases air resistance, which complicates the process and leads to increased pressure.
  • Choose a thick-walled brass manifold. To avoid mistakes, compare the weight of different models.

It is not always necessary to purchase and independently install a safety group for a boiler - it all depends on the heat generator. Modern boilers can be equipped protective system, so before starting any installation work Please read the heater data sheet carefully. It is possible that the device with sensors is supplied separately and only needs to be installed.

Regardless of the type of boiler in your living space, the safety group will make the heating system comfortable and durable. All costs will be paid off, because expensive equipment will not be subject to emergency situations.
