Today, wooden windows are becoming increasingly popular. They are easy to use, durable and functional.

Compared to similar products made of aluminum or fiberglass, wooden windows have the following advantages:

  • Have a lower cost;
  • They are easy to install;
  • Environmentally friendly;
  • Frost-resistant, which allows the installation of wooden windows in northern regions;
  • They have good repairability.

Modern products presented on the market suggest the possibility of their self-installation. High-quality fittings in large assortment ensures simple and quick installation of wooden windows. As a rule, manufacturers include with the installation kit full instructions on installation. But it should be remembered that only competent installation will allow you to fully appreciate all the advantages of wooden windows during operation.

Installation of wooden windows involves several stages:

  • Checking and preparing the window opening;
  • Installation of windows in a previously prepared opening;
  • Securing the window frame;
  • Sealing the window around the perimeter of the box;
  • Adjustment of the closing-opening mechanism;
  • Installation of accessories;
  • Carrying out final finishing work.

To install wooden windows you will need the following tools:

  • Building level;
  • Roulette;
  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Hammer;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Self-tapping screws or dowels;
  • Polyurethane foam.

Preparing the opening is a guarantee of high-quality installation

Preparing the window opening consists of giving it rectangular shape. Any distortions must be excluded, unevenness, cracks and other defects must be repaired. The surface of the opening must be completely cleaned of any debris, dust and dirt.

If the window is to be dismantled, then it is necessary to carefully remove the remains of old building materials.

The window opening must be larger than the window being installed:

  • 1-2 cm on the sides and top;
  • 5-6 cm from below.

This will allow you to correctly adjust the window frame during installation, thereby minimizing various factory defects and misalignment of the window opening, if it could not be eliminated at the preparatory stage.

Methods for installing wooden windows

For installation finished design three methods can be used in the opening:

  • Mounting blocks;
  • Mounting plates;
  • "End-to-end" method.

It is recommended to install wooden windows as close to the outside of the opening as possible in order to keep most of the window warm. For any type of installation of a wooden window, you should provide space below for installing a window sill.

Important! Installation of wooden windows involves the removal of window glass or double-glazed windows.

Installation of wooden windows using mounting blocks can only be done in perfectly straight openings.

Attention! Wooden installation elements must be pre-impregnated with an antiseptic composition.

The installation process involves the following operations:

  • The opening around the perimeter is covered with a waterproofing layer;
  • Mounting blocks approximately 5 cm high are fixed parallel to the frame;
  • A box is inserted and aligned horizontally and vertically using wedges.

This method It is simple and the most technologically advanced, but, unfortunately, it is used very rarely, since in practice it is very difficult to perfectly align the window opening. Options for placing mounting blocks when various options Window openings are shown in the figure below.

When choosing the second method of installing wooden windows, the mounting plates are fixed on the top and sides of the frame at a distance of 25 cm from the edge. The anchor plate is installed so that it faces the room. This installation element must be attached to the opening and frame using self-tapping screws, but only from different sides. If you need to install a window with dimensions of more than one and a half meters, then you should provide a couple of additional mounting plates. Next, the frame is installed, its horizontal and vertical alignment is performed using wedges and its final fixation with self-tapping screws.

The most reliable and common method of installing wooden windows is the so-called “through” installation method. In this case, the window frame is rigidly fixed in window opening using dowels. It is deprived of the ability to move under the influence of any mechanical loads.

The installation process consists of the following steps:

  • On the inner side and top surfaces window frame mounting holes are marked;
  • Holes are drilled using a drill;
  • The window frame is installed in the openings, aligned horizontally and vertically using wedges;
  • The frame is fixed through prepared mounting holes using self-tapping screws or dowels.

It is possible to combine installation methods using anchor plates and dowels. For example, a window frame is rigidly fastened with dowels on the bottom and sides, and fixed on top with one or more plates.

Remember that the wedges that were used as spacers should only be removed after the frame has been completely secured.

A mandatory step after installing a wooden window is to carry it out high-quality insulation. The work is carried out in order to prevent cold air and moisture from entering the premises. Eliminate gaps between the surfaces of the opening and the window frame using polyurethane foam. It should be remembered that in order to carry out proper foaming, you must have some experience, because excess foam can lead to deformation of the window frame and distortion of the window as a whole. To avoid this, you can use special spacers.

Waterproof installed window need and with outside. For this purpose, special silicone putties are used, which are characterized by high waterproofing properties and durability.

Installation of window sill and ebb

To install the window sill you need to perform the following operations:

  • Place the window sill under the installed frame, ensuring that it protrudes relative to the wall by approximately 5 cm.
  • Align the window sill horizontally with maximum fit to the window frame and make markings;
  • Remove the window sill;
  • Foam the space under window frame polyurethane foam;
  • Quickly install the window sill in place in accordance with the markings;
  • Foam the free space under the window sill.

Attention! To prevent the window sill from moving during foaming, it is recommended to place a small weight on it, for example, a couple of containers filled with water.

In order to install the ebb, it is necessary to cut it along the length of the window opening with a margin of 6 cm. On each side, 3 cm will need to be folded to ensure ebb. The ebb should be secured on the outside using self-tapping screws, and on the inside should be secured with a small amount of foam, making sure that it does not lift the ebb.

The slopes are mandatory element wooden windows. Functionally they are additional insulation and carry an important aesthetic load. Today, wooden windows are often supplied complete with internal slopes. In this case, installing them is extremely simple, since special grooves are provided on the window frames.

Important! Installation of slopes should be carried out the next day after installing a wooden window.

For installation window slopes necessary:

  • Cut the panels to the size of the window opening;
  • Try it on, adjust it to the window frame, inserting them into the factory grooves;
  • Moisten the surface of the window opening;
  • Apply mounting foam to the surface of the window opening;
  • Place the slopes against the window opening and fix them in the desired position (you must ensure that the foam fills all the voids, but does not push the slope out).

It is important to remember that many articles on installing wooden windows are available on the Internet. Using the advice of experts and following the installation instructions, it is not at all difficult to complete the installation yourself.

Installing windows yourself will save up to 50% of the money that would be spent on installation by a third-party company. But it is very important to do everything correctly, otherwise the savings will be questionable. Wooden houses have their own characteristics that you should be aware of.

Possible problems if windows are installed incorrectly

It is advisable to adequately assess your strengths in advance, because some mistakes can become very expensive:

    • lack of casing - a house made of timber “walks” during shrinkage and begins to put pressure on the window frames;
    • the use of polyurethane foam in the shrinkage gap between the top in the casing and the wall of the house - the hardened foam is very hard and will transfer pressure from upper beams on the window frame, negating the functions of the casing;

    • incorrect calculation of the dimensions of the plastic window frame - without taking into account the installation gap, you will have to expand the window opening;

    • there is too much gap between the frame and the wall - if you simply foam such a gap, the slopes will always be cold, it is better to insert an additional expansion profile;
    • absence external protection installation gap - foaming the distance between the frame and the casing, with outside it is better to close the gap with PSUL tape, which protects the foam from ultraviolet radiation, but allows moisture to evaporate;

    • lack of waterproofing from the outside and vapor barrier from the inside - the foam is destroyed when exposed to the atmosphere, which leads to a deterioration in insulating properties;

    • placing a window in a “cold zone” causes freezing of slopes and the formation of condensation with inside

If there is the slightest possibility of making one of these mistakes due to inexperience, it is better not to save money and order window installation. For an experienced builder, DIY installation should not be a problem.

Pitfalls that plastic window manufacturers don't talk about

Tightness and high sound insulation plastic double glazed windows presented as a definite advantage. But, unfortunately, not everything is so rosy. After all, the humidity in residential premises is constantly increasing, and thanks to unsealed wooden frames, a constant influx of moisture is ensured. fresh air. Of course too much large gaps They can make the house very cold, so Euro-windows have long become a very popular product.

How to solve the problem with high humidity? One option is to do forced ventilation. But in the absence of ventilation holes, this can be problematic - a lot will have to be redone.

It is for such cases that window frames were invented. supply valves– special profiles that are installed on plastic windows. What is especially pleasing is the ease of installation. It is enough to replace part of the standard seal with a special one and screw the valve to the window sash with several self-tapping screws. Unfortunately, the system will not work without an exhaust vent.
Another unpleasant surprise for owners wooden houses– companies that install plastic windows often do not guarantee their work, citing the unpredictability of wood behavior. So, even if all installation rules are followed, you may find that after a few years the windows no longer open. But you won’t be able to sharpen plastic with a file.

Manufacturing of casing (plugs)

The first thing the installation of windows begins with is the installation of the casing. But is it always necessary and how to do it correctly?

When can you do without a joint?

New wooden house made from logs or timber will shrink in any case. And no one has canceled seasonal soil heaving. In this case, the casing is required - it will protect the window from distortions, torsion or bends.

It is important to use only dry and durable material– edged board 50 mm thick and edged timber 150x100 mm or 50x50 mm. The width should be equal to the thickness of the wall.

But in frame house There is no need to make a frame - the frame itself is already formed for window and door openings and provides the necessary rigidity. Some builders also do not install a casing in a log house that has stood for more than 10 years, arguing that it has already undergone shrinkage and is not deformed. But for peace of mind, it’s better to do it in your home; this process is not that complicated.

How to make casing correctly

The last option is the most labor-intensive, but also the most reliable. If you have any doubts about your own carpentry skills, it is better to casing it into an embedded block. For this:

    • In the window opening, in the middle of the timber, two vertical furrows measuring 5x5 cm are selected. This can be done either with a chainsaw or with a hand circular saw, chisel and axe. The second option is preferable if your hand is not full for precise work chainsaw.

    • Placed on top of the embedding block edged board and is fixed flush with self-tapping screws - two at the top and bottom. To do this, pre-drill a small recess with a diameter slightly larger than the screw head.
    • If the “tenon-monolith” casing option is chosen, then the pre-cut T-shaped element is simply driven into the groove and also screwed with self-tapping screws.
    • Vertical elements should not reach the upper edge of the opening by 8 cm - so that the 5 cm thick top laid on them is at a distance of at least 3 cm from the wall beam. This will be the shrinkage gap.
    • The top should fit into the grooves with little effort, and not move freely in a horizontal plane. It is also fixed with self-tapping screws, screwed in at an angle.
    • The insulation is placed in the shrinkage gap and closed on the inside with a vapor barrier, and on the outside - windproof membrane. Under no circumstances should the insulation be covered on both sides with vapor-proof films - accumulated condensation will cause mold to form on the wood adjacent to the insulation.

And this is how casing is done “into the deck”:

When the frame is ready, you can proceed directly to installing double-glazed windows.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows

The installation of double-glazed windows itself is not very complicated, but requires strict adherence to technology. Otherwise, the window will almost certainly condense and the frame will warp.

Checking the delivered glass unit

Under no circumstances should this moment be neglected! First, the dimensions of the window opening and glass unit are checked. So, if the opening is 184 cm, then the window frame should be 180 cm - the gap between the side posts and the wall cannot exceed 2 cm on each side. The height of the window opening, for example, is 120 cm, then the frame itself should be 116 cm, and at the bottom there is also a support profile (clover) of 3 cm. Thus, the gap at the top will be 1 cm. The clover must be included in the kit, and under You need to leave room for it when designing the window. It is needed so that a window sill can be installed from the inside, and the ebb can be screwed on the outside.

If mosquito nets are planned on the windows, you must also check the presence of fasteners. Handles are often “lost” because windows are shipped without them. But dowels are special fasteners that you need to select yourself.

Their length should be such that when fully screwed in, they only reach the middle of the casing board. And this is taking into account the gap. If the dowel is screwed into the wall of a wooden house, the window will begin to deform regardless of the presence of the frame.

Often they don’t pay attention to small elements - decorative overlays accessories and drainage holes. They will also have to be counted. But the window sill and sill need to be ordered - if you forget to specify their necessity, you may find that the windows arrived without them. For installation, you will also need special linings for the glass themselves - their presence can only be seen by disassembling the double-glazed window.

They may not be included in the kit, so it is better to order them in advance. Wedges are convenient because thanks to them different sizes you can align the frame evenly by simply placing a wedge required thickness under corners and posts.

Disassembly and preparation of double-glazed windows

The finished glass unit is delivered to assembled form. But to install it, you will have to disassemble everything down to the frame. For this:

    • when closed, use a special key to remove the upper pins holding the swinging sash;
    • the window handle is inserted, the sash is opened and removed from the lower fastenings;
    • the glazing beads are knocked out from the inside of the window and the double-glazed windows are removed - you can use a hammer and an ordinary knife;
    • you need to remember or mark the right and left glazing beads;
    • removable from the outside protective film– under the influence of the sun it will not come off in a few months;
    • external elements are mounted - holders of mosquito nets and decorative plugs for drainage holes;
    • holes are drilled for the dowels - first at a distance of no more than 20 cm from the corners of the frame, and then no more than 60-70 cm from each other;

As soon as preliminary preparation completed, you can proceed directly to installation.

Installation of frame and assembly of plastic windows

First, the frame is simply inserted into the window opening and temporarily fixed in it. For example, with temporary jibs nailed on the outside. But it’s much easier to do everything with an assistant - he simply holds the frame until it is leveled and screwed to the casing. Installing the frame also requires following the correct sequence:

    1. The bottom edge is leveled - laser level in this regard it is more convenient. Wedges are placed under each rack different thicknesses so as to achieve a perfectly level position. Even minimal distortion will create problems during operation.
    2. Side spacers are inserted to ensure the same distance from the walls. If the width of the window frame is too small and literally “falls out” of the opening, you can use a special expansion profile. This is much better than foaming the resulting huge gap.

    1. The frame is also aligned vertically. Do not forget that it needs to be installed in a “warm” zone - for wooden walls without external insulation it is clearly in the middle.
    2. Once the frame is level, you can begin attaching it, starting with the side posts. First, holes are drilled in the wood through those already made in the frame, and then dowels are attached. First the top and bottom, with a mandatory check of the vertical, and then between them.
    3. Once the frame is fixed, the flashing is attached to the outside. Of course, this can also be done in last resort, but on the second floor it is not so easy to approach from the outside. The ebb is inserted into a special groove under the frame, screwed with two self-tapping screws along the edges, and the gap under it is filled with polyurethane foam.

    1. Decorative overlays are placed on the sash fastening elements. The lower ones are put on the frame, the upper ones - on the sash. First, the sash is installed on the frame, and only then the handle is attached in the open state.

    1. Double-glazed windows are placed on special gaskets. Without them, the window may simply burst due to the emphasis on the metal parts in the corners of the frame.

    1. The installation seam is foamed around the perimeter.
    2. A window sill is being installed. To do this, a finished window sill is placed on the window sill beam, and wedges are placed under it to level it. The window sill is removed, its end and delivery profile are coated with sealant, and free place foams between the wedges. The window sill is placed again, pressed tightly against the profile and left until the foam hardens.

  1. In some cases, they do the opposite - first they install the window sill, check it for level and screw it to the casing with dowels. And only then a double-glazed window is placed on top of it. In this case, there is no need to align the frame horizontally. The only inconvenience is that the window sill material must withstand the action of the external environment. Of course, you can fix the ebb outside on top of the window sill and foam everything under it, thus protecting the wooden element.

As soon as polyurethane foam has frozen, you can start finishing the windows.

Slopes for a plastic window in a wooden house

The easiest option that even girls can handle is to close them plastic panels. For this you will need:

  • L-shaped or starting profile - it is screwed to the wall close to the window frame;
  • decorative plastic corner– it covers the end of the panel from the side of the room and is also screwed on with self-tapping screws;
  • herself plastic lining for slopes.

And you don’t even need to foam anything. But to ensure necessary protection assembly seam And good insulation, you should lay insulation between the wall and the slope and cover it with a vapor barrier. On the outside, the seam is covered with a windproof film - waterproofing with good vapor permeability.

And in order for the windows to delight you with warmth and comfort, it is very important to protect the polyurethane foam from exposure to ultraviolet radiation, as well as from being pulled away by birds. You don’t need to restrain your soul’s impulses if you want to start doing something. with my own hands. And everything will definitely work out!

Why call a specialist if, for example, you need to install wooden window in the country? And it’s okay if the first pancake is lumpy. After all, most likely you don’t go there in winter. You won't even have to freeze. But you will save money!

Read the instructions for installing wooden windows yourself.

Several ways to install a wooden window

Installing wooden windows with your own hands different cases happens in different ways:

  • on wooden support blocks. They are also called “wedges”, “linings” and even “pieces of wood” in common parlance
  • on dowels using the through method - this is when the dowels pass through the frame and go deeper into the opening
  • for anchors - metal plates with holes for dowels

Which method is better to choose? It all depends on the opening.

Fastening windows using an anchor method - both firmly and after finishing it is not visible

The window is installed on the support blocks, if the opening is close to ideal: smooth (not crooked) and strong. Those. in houses made of blocks and sand-lime brick. It is rare luck to combine these 2 qualities at once. Therefore, this method is almost never used.

Windows are often installed on dowels. For example, in wooden houses, in apartments with slightly crooked openings. And also, if sand is already pouring out of the opening. Or the walls are made of ceramic bricks, cinder block, shell rock and other weak materials.

True, this method has one “visible” drawback, which we will mention below.

In the Khrushchev buildings there is nothing left but fix the window with anchors– after all, the walls there are made of raw concrete. And in order to drill it to a decent depth... it’s easier not to install anything at all.

Do-it-yourself anchor installation of wooden windows is used if the opening is very sagging - a very common occurrence. This is when the difference in the length of two diagonals is more than 10 mm per 1 meter of the length of any diagonal. For example, if on average it is 1.5 m, then the difference is allowed 15 mm.

Installing windows on wooden support blocks is the easiest option

But despite this, still you'll have to tinker:

Wood is a capricious material, so the opening must be insulated

1. Correct installation wooden windows begins with insulating the openings. To do this, glue sheets of roofing felt or polyurethane foam onto silicone into the opening. These materials will protect the seam, and the wooden window itself, from “wall” moisture.

2. Take wooden blocks (you can make them yourself) 12-15 cm thick. And the width is correspondingly equal to the gap between the frame and the opening. Slightly sharpen the edge of the lining that will fit under the profile.

3. Place 2 pads on bottom side opening. The distance between them should be about 80 cm if you have a standard double-hung window. If the window is smaller, you can place them closer. And for large and heavy three-leaf windows, it is better not to use such a mount at all.

Arrangement of blocks for wooden windows with different types of opening

4. Install the profile without sashes ( external slope must be at least 10 cm) and insert the remaining support blocks. And then spacers, as shown in the diagram for installing wooden windows with different types opening. The pads should not fit very tightly. And if necessary, they are planed or sanded.

At the same time, do not forget to check the horizontal position of the window with a level, and the vertical position with a plumb line. If the frame deviates slightly (or not slightly) from the desired position, it is leveled using additional wooden wedges. Which, in fact, fix the profile tightly.

5. Starting with the spacers, remove the block one at a time, and apply silicone sealant. Next, put the block back - it will lock tightly and good fasteners will come out of it.

Have you smeared silicone on a frame or wall? No problem, freshly applied silicone can be easily wiped off with a cloth soaked in vinegar.

Sometimes, instead of homemade pads, they use store-bought ones made of plastic.

6. Fill the seam between the frame and the opening as described in. When the foam has dried and the frame cannot be moved, remove the additional wedges and fill the holes left behind with foam.

That's basically it. All that remains is to install the sash in place. Or if you have blind window, install glass/glazing unit. .

And what types of pigtails are used when, read in. In it you will also find the cost of “coiling” work in different companies.

What could be more reliable than installing a wooden window with dowels!

The technology for installing wooden windows in this way in brick/concrete and wooden houses somewhat different.

Installing the frame using the “dowel” method in a stone or concrete opening

You don't need silicone here. But you will need a hammer drill with a drill 5 mm in diameter. And dowel-nails with a diameter of 6 mm. But the length of the nails is individual. The main rule is that they should extend 8 cm into the opening.

Self-installation of wooden windows on dowels consists of the following steps:

This installation method has a big disadvantage

1. Holes for nails are made in the frame. How many should there be? As a rule, at least 3 by 1.5 mm. Two of them are made 15-20 cm from the edges of the profile. And the third is strictly between them.

3. Markings are made in the opening through the holes in the frame. Don't even try to do this using a ruler. Otherwise, the holes on the wall and profile will separate like ships at sea.

4. The frame is pulled out for a while to drill an opening. And insert plastic sleeves there.

5. Second, and last time install and level the frame. It is secured with screws, and the pads are removed - their role in this “scenario” is played. It follows that if the screw lands on the block during fastening, the latter is moved back a little.

Features of fastening wooden frames to the frame

The frame in a wooden house is first glued to the casing using liquid nails. And only then, just to be sure, they are secured with ordinary nails or self-tapping screws. They only tack, so no need for too long nails.

After all, other people's experience is also valuable! You will find out which material, according to consumers, is better. Wooden windows with which configuration last longer, etc.

If you have some initial skills, you can install a wooden window without any problems with your own hands. We will now tell you how to do this easily and efficiently.

Increasingly, wooden windows are beginning to return to apartments and houses. Despite the advantages of PVC windows, one can point out their main disadvantage - plastic ones do not breathe at all. Modern wooden windows make it so that you can install the same double or triple glazing and they serve no less than plastic ones. It happens that the openings are a little skewed and if you call in specialists, installing a wooden window will cost a pretty penny. That's why we do it ourselves.

First, you need to decide which window you will install: with what profile, with what fittings. What kind of wood should it be made from? We decided, ordered and bought. Now installation.

Preparing the window opening

First of all, you must dismantle the old window. No special skills required here. After all, breaking is not building. Clear the slopes of plaster. You will still have to make new slopes.

Once the opening is completely clear, you should measure it carefully. The main goal is to determine the configuration of the opening itself, and based on it, the dimensions of the new window are established. If you have encountered or seen how openings are measured when installing plastic windows, then this is done in exactly the same way.

There is such a thing as shrinkage. Every house, even a new one, shrinks. And naturally, this can affect the symmetry of your window opening. Very rarely is the opening perfect. The window itself must certainly be slightly smaller than the opening, especially if it is not symmetrical. You must maintain the gaps, as shown in the figure above.

To make your calculations more accurate, it is better to use a laser tape measure. Or a construction thread, with which you can beat off the vertical and horizontal. If they are even, then your measurements will also be accurate.

Window mounting methods

Just like it's modern now window profile allows you to anchor it right through the wall, then you shouldn’t invent any other methods - this will be the simplest and no less reliable. This method also allows you to open the sash in any direction.

In wooden houses, this method of fastening a window is the only one. Moreover, this method is no worse than all the others and at the same time it is the simplest. The window can open in different planes, but this will increase the load on the frame itself. If the walls are skewed, the window sash may jam. Therefore, when taking measurements, it is necessary to calculate the size of the window a little smaller than the opening itself.

How to determine the width of the window frame

The frame must be chosen so thick that the dew point is exactly between the glasses. The inner glass should not fog up. The width is at least twelve centimeters, and if you have thick enough walls, then the maximum width should not exceed 22 centimeters.

The profile of a wooden window is made according to the principle of the profile of plastic windows. It often happens that the fittings will be the same. By the way, to choose accessories, you need to sweat a little. The longevity of your window will depend on it. Therefore, you should definitely familiarize yourself with how to choose the right window fittings.

If, after all, the frame is more than 22 centimeters wide, you should consider additional thermal insulation, which is installed in the openings during installation. If this is not acceptable to you, then the glass package itself should be triple, but this is an additional load on the sash. More often than not, this causes the sash to begin to sag. , however, this is additional trouble in the future.

Again, if the thickness of the wall is large enough, then there are certain proportions that must also be observed. Internal slopes should not be less than 17 centimeters, and external ones 10 centimeters. Often window openings are made with a quarter and internal slope does not work according to the specified parameters. In this case, there is nothing terrible, because the quarter itself will be a kind of additional insulation.

How to install in a concrete opening

If you have brick or block walls, then the installation of a new wooden window often begins with the installation of a window sill. To do this, a flat cement pad is poured onto the base of the opening in a horizontal plane and the surface is leveled. Typically, the thickness of the window sill is from 30 to 50 centimeters, so the window itself should be made smaller in size.

The window sill is nailed with several dowels, which are driven directly into the wall. remember that from the outside the window sill should not protrude beyond the edge of the window frame. Preparations for installing a wooden window are completed and you can begin this process.

The easiest way to install a window is on blocks. Blocks are ordinary boards of equal thickness, which should also have equal thickness with the gap between the wall and the window frame. One edge of the block is slightly ground down in the form of a wedge, so that it is possible, if necessary, to correct the window in the opening horizontally and vertically if the opening itself is not level enough.

First, support blocks are installed - your new wooden window will mainly rest on them, then spacers are installed. Constantly check the vertical and horizontal using a level and, if necessary, adjust using blocks.

As soon as the window frame is in place and you have completely leveled it, then one by one we take out the spacer pads and spray these places with silicone, install the pads back. Wipe off excess silicone with a rag. Once the silicone has hardened, the gaps between the opening and the frame can be filled with polyurethane foam. Any excess of which, after complete drying, is cut off and slopes are made on the outside of the window.

More often it looks like this: the resulting gap between the wall and the frame is filled with polyurethane foam, after drying, the excess is cut off and plastered. Remember that you need to handle foam carefully. If you overdo it, it may become so wide that your window will no longer close. The foam puts a lot of pressure on the frame and bends it. Therefore, familiarize yourself with the rules for using polyurethane foam.

To enhance the effect, the frame is secured with powerful dowels. Two holes are drilled at the top of the frame and on its sides and dowels are hammered into the wall. At this stage, installing the window in concrete wall completed. All you have to do is make new beautiful slopes from the inside.

Installation in a brick or cinder block wall

If your house is built from cinder block, ceramic brick, or shell rock - that is, from weak materials, then it is advisable to install a new window through fastening. First of all, to do this, they drill through the frame in the wall through holes two on each side. You can initially make holes in the frame, then align it in two planes evenly and mark holes in the wall, which are drilled after marking, naturally without a frame. The anchors or screws should be 8 centimeters longer than the frame itself, plus the gap between your frame and the wall. At the bottom of the window, do not install fasteners through the window sill. It is usually attached to the frame with ordinary self-tapping screws.

IMPORTANT! You should not make holes through the pads on which the frame is mounted. If this happens, then it is better to move the block to the side before tightening the screw. If you have been adjusting the pads for a long time, be sure to mark them with a pencil.

Installation in a skewed window opening

It often happens that a window opening is actually skewed. In this case, the strongest fastenings for the window are anchors - ordinary metal strips with holes. Experts usually advise that you first attach small fastening intermediate strips to the frame and then use them to attach the anchors to the frame. But this method justifies itself when there are several workers. If you are alone, then it is not worth wasting your time on this.

The anchors are attached mainly at the ends to the frame using self-tapping screws along the outer perimeter. The tails should stick out inward. They will still be hidden by the slopes. Once the anchors are ready and screwed to the frame, it can be placed in the window opening. As always, we align the frame horizontally and vertically - after all, our opening is skewed, holes on the wall are marked according to the holes in the anchors, metal strips are bent and drilled for dowels. Once all the holes are ready, the pads are removed. The frame must hang on the anchors.

Crooked openings are either careless work of the builders, or the opening was affected by the shrinkage of the building. Therefore, you should not have rigid connections between the frame and the walls. The cracks are filled with foam and a window sill is installed. More often, with an oblique opening, the window sill is installed in a hanging manner.

Note. Some try to level the window opening using a screed - however, this is a monkey's work, since no screed can stop the uneven shrinkage of the building.

How to properly blow out a crack with foam

Window cracks are blown out using a gun or, at worst, the tube that comes with the bottle of foam. This is done in several approaches, squeezing out thin sausages starting from the middle inward and vice versa. This method will not allow the foam to exert any pressure on the window frame and the foam itself will be evenly distributed around the perimeter.

Installation in a wooden house

In wooden houses, installing windows is usually easy. Many experts install them using liquid nails, but most adhere to the method of fastening with self-tapping screws. If the opening is skewed, it can be leveled using the same chainsaw or hacksaw. Wood is much easier to work with. Be sure to secure the platbands on the outside with self-tapping screws. A strong wind will simply tear them off and no liquid nails will hold them in place.

I think you now know how to install a wooden window with your own hands, and it doesn’t matter what kind of opening it is: concrete or wooden. The work is not complicated in itself and not so difficult, but it will require you to be attentive and take into account certain factors in advance.

Finishing finished wooden log house begins with the insertion of double-glazed windows into the window openings. However, the amplitude of shrinkage of a log or beam only subsides over time, but never completely disappears. Therefore, if installed incorrectly, troubles are inevitable, leading to damage to expensive PVC products and wood in general. Below are instructions for solving the issue - how to install a double-glazed window in a wooden house with your own hands, which will reduce the cost of attracting outside forces.

Stages of work

Any process is preceded by preparation. For a wooden object, it is especially careful. It is necessary to clean the ends of the openings from fine wood dust in advance, remove protruding parts of the fasteners and impregnate the material with compounds that prevent rotting and other damage.

  1. Measurements for the manufacture of double-glazed windows.
  2. Making vertical grooves at the ends.
  3. Inserting a casing or socket.
  4. Final installation of double-glazed windows in a wooden house and filling of gaps with polyurethane foam.
  5. Finishing.

More details:

  • It is not recommended to carry out calculations yourself. Sometimes deviations of a few mm can become a problem in the future. It is best to call a professional to do the work. If the owners decide to make their own calculations, then they need to take into account the following:
  • The height of the window is 10-12 cm less than the opening.
  • width = opening – 3 cm for foam gaps – thickness vertical racks casing board - 1.5 cm for unexpected shrinkage or swelling in a humid atmosphere.

The delivered packages are placed at an angle towards the wall, making sure that there are no distortions on the floor - a small weed stone can crack under load.

  • To make grooves, use a chisel or circular saw which is faster. First, outline the outline along the ends and then select the excess. The process is necessary so that when installing the casing, you do not use fasteners, because shrinkage will continue, as mentioned above.

The freed groove is cleaned and impregnated with protection. Next, it must be compacted with the same material that was used in the construction of the crowns - tow, jute.

  • Assembling the pigtail. It is a box of boards, one inch wide. If you have extra money, you can purchase special boards with a spike for this purpose.

If you don't want to spend money, it's suitable handmade by sawing or stuffing bars according to the size of the groove into the middle of the vertical posts. The modification of the casing can vary - the tenons and grooves are swapped.

Or a carriage is made, put on at the ends. This way and that way is good. The pigtail is inserted and its upper edge should not reach the top log or beam by 10-12 cm. This is done in case of long-term shrinkage of the log house.

  • Now you can insert a wooden double-glazed window or PVC product. By the way, many environmentalists prefer the first option, motivating the rejection of progressive products with chemical components.

But these are rather prejudices - high-quality plastic windows have already proven themselves. Unlike natural frames, their durability is estimated at tens of years. But the owner is a gentleman.

  • The insertion of packages is carried out by a couple of people in order to maintain accuracy. If desired, the edges are aligned with the lower log or beam or slightly recessed into the house.

At the fastening points along the perimeter of the window, they place wooden blocks, to ensure the necessary clearance under the mounting foam. The frame is fixed with fasteners into pre-drilled holes.

  • It is recommended to fill gaps only with foam - it is elastic, sets quickly and has shock absorption, which will work to its advantage when shrinking. If the gaps turn out to be larger than planned, then you should fill such places with pieces of jute, polystyrene foam and other materials. Is not the best option– air circulation is disrupted, so it’s worth doing this in advance correct measurements when ordering windows, as described above.
  • The upper, largest gap is also filled with a sealant, but it cannot be foamed - shrinkage is inevitable. Having laid jute in it, the opening from a log or beam to top bar the casing is closed with a platband.
  • Finishing refers to the installation of slopes and window sills. If plastic double-glazed windows for a wooden house were originally purchased, then the accompanying elements must be of the same quality. It is impossible to finish slopes with plaster - the compositions require the presence of water, which wood is not at all friendly with.

Or you will have to install moisture-resistant plasterboard parts, and apply a solution on them, which is troublesome and requires leveling, constant supervision, elimination of cracks and peeling.

It is much easier to install double-glazed windows for a wooden house by freeing the frames from the sashes. All components are then screwed into place and adjusted. If work is carried out with solid non-leaf structures, then the presence of assistants is mandatory - the packages are quite heavy.

Mistakes when inserting windows into a wooden house

Due to inexperience, many home-grown craftsmen can ruin expensive PVC products through incorrect actions. Below is a list of common actions that lead, at a minimum, to the fragility of the double-glazed window. So:

  1. Incorrect measurements. Independent work will lead to the gaps being too large or, conversely, small. Considering that polyurethane foam is not cheap, it is better to leave the process of determining the correct parameters to specialists. In addition, this happens free of charge in the company where the windows are ordered.
  2. Savings on synthetic seals. We're talking about foam. If there is not enough of it, it threatens acceptance metal surfaces cold on yourself. Which threatens condensation.
  3. Tight fit. It is not recommended to screw the frame close to the wood. If shrinkage occurs, compensation will be lost and the bag will be in danger of being crushed.
  4. Use fasteners that are too long. Just a part 2/3 screwed into the casing is enough. The ends should not contain pieces of metal. Fastening occurs diagonally with gradual screwing in of self-tapping screws. This way you can achieve a perfect fit.
  5. You need to foam the gaps when the window is full, that is, plastic or wooden double glazed windows for the dacha and the house should stand in finished form, with doors and other fittings. This will give a true load, and the foam will fall as it should and in a smaller volume.
The weight of the structure is quite impressive, unless we are talking about small dormer windows. Therefore, when installing double-glazed windows yourself, you need to have at least an observer on your team to record distortions.

New or already in use wooden houses with double glazed windows look fresh. In addition, the industry that produces these products has taken care of the external variety of designs - you can find ones indistinguishable from wood, or colored ones that contrast with general view object.
