A lampshade for a lamp in a steam room is necessary to protect against burns and to diffuse light. With its help, they complement the interior and create a unique atmosphere in the room. You can make it in the form of a grating or scattering screen with your own hands, following the instructions below.

TO lighting fixtures The steam room has many requirements. The light should be soft, create a relaxing environment, and not irritate the eyes. At the same time, it is also important to think about safety and eliminate the possibility of getting burned by a light bulb. Lighting fixtures in a bathhouse, as a rule, are equipped with special lampshades that help “adapt” the light to all requirements.

The need for a lampshade in the bath

Traditionally, lamps are placed on the wall behind a shelf, most often in a corner. In this case, they do not irritate the eyes and provide good illumination for the heater and bucket of water. A lampshade is necessary to dim bright lighting, protect against burns, and complement the interior.

Several lighting sources should be installed in the steam room so that if one light bulb burns out, you will not be left in complete darkness. Each lamp must be covered with a lampshade.

Preparing to make a lampshade for a bath

Even without special carpentry skills, you can build a lampshade for a lamp in a steam room with your own hands. The main thing is to choose the right material and decide on the model (corner or wall) of the decorative grille-lampshade and the size of the product. It will be easier to work using pre-cut paper patterns.

It is best to make a lampshade from wood. You can also use birch bark, bast, and vine. These materials have the most suitable performance characteristics for a steam room:

  1. Low thermal conductivity;
  2. Safety;
  3. Ease of processing;
  4. Heat and moisture resistance;
  5. Durability;
  6. Durability (to protect the lamp from mechanical shocks);
  7. Decorative;
  8. Compliance with the overall interior.
When choosing wood for a decorative grille, give preference to linden, aspen, cedar or larch. The last two types, by the way, emit a pleasant aroma when heated.

Conifers(pine, spruce) is not advisable to use for manufacturing. When heated, they release a specific aroma and resinous substances that can burn you. If you still decide to save money and make a lampshade from coniferous wood, then choose a material with shrinkage of up to 15%.

Some owners use the remnants of wooden lining, which was used to decorate the steam room, to create a lampshade. This option is also quite acceptable. IN in this case the lampshade will completely harmonize in color with the overall cladding.

Additionally, you will need fine-grit sanding paper. When choosing fasteners, give preference to galvanized ones. They are not affected by corrosion, and therefore are optimally suited for use in aggressive environments, in particular at elevated temperatures and humidity.

Please note that it is important to sand the wood very well so that if you accidentally touch it, you will not drive a splinter into it. It would also be a good idea to treat it with several layers of fire-fighting and antiseptic composition.

Do-it-yourself wall grille-lampshade for a bathhouse

Lattices can be the most different options: longitudinal, diagonal, straight, curvilinear. The look depends on your skills, patience and ability to process wood. We will consider a variant of the traditional direct model for wall mount.

We carry out the work in the following sequence:

  • Draw the shape of the frame on paper. It can be U-shaped or C-shaped. We make two identical patterns at once for the upper and lower parts of the base.
  • Trace the paper pattern onto the wood with a pencil and cut it out.
  • Carefully sand the edges first with coarse-grained paper, then with fine-grained paper. When sanding, we try to maintain the same dimensions of the upper and lower parts.
  • We retreat 1 cm along the outer contour and draw a line with a pencil, repeating the bends of the base. We do this on two parts.
  • We retreat another 1 cm from the drawn lines and repeat the procedure on both products.
  • We mill a groove 1 cm wide between the two lines. Its depth should be about 0.2 cm.
  • Starting from the edge of the groove, we make indentations 0.5 cm deep, 1 cm wide in increments of 1 cm. Repeat the procedure on the second product.
  • We cut out thin slats from wood with a cross section of 1 cm 2. Their height should correspond to the desired height of the lampshade. The number of prepared lattice “rods” is equal to the number of recesses made.
  • We carefully sand each part with coarse and fine-grained sanding paper.
  • We insert each element into the recess and tap if necessary wooden hammer so that it goes all the way into the hole.
  • We install the second part of the housing on top. We direct each part of the lattice into the corresponding recess. Tap the top element with a wooden hammer. Please note that the upper and lower parts of the frame must be parallel to each other.
You can install such a lampshade on the wall using galvanized self-tapping screws. If desired, you can cut out curved or spiral parts of the product in the same way.

How to make a corner decorative grill for a bath

If you do not know how to use a milling machine or cannot get one, then there is another way to make a lampshade for a bathhouse lamp with your own hands. To do this you will need galvanized fasteners. It is advisable to use self-tapping screws. In this case, the caps need to be deepened into the wood to avoid burns.

We make a lampshade following these instructions:

  1. Cut out the blank of the lower part of the frame on paper trapezoidal shape. The side ribs of the figure should be close to the walls in the corner of the steam room.
  2. We transfer the drawing with a pencil onto the wood and cut it out.
  3. Sand thoroughly first with coarse-grained paper, then with fine-grained paper.
  4. We cut out three strips 1 cm wide, 0.5 cm thick, and the height required for the lamp.
  5. We nail along the edges and in the middle, connecting the upper and lower parts of the frame.
  6. Next, you need to measure the distance from the middle plank to the outer ones and cut the planks of the same width and thickness. The length must correspond to the measurements taken.
  7. We screw the strips with self-tapping screws from the inside to the middle and outer crossbar on both sides.
  8. We fill the top and bottom along the grill with slats.
If desired and if you have free time, the slats can be fixed not horizontally, but diagonally in different directions from each side.

Making a corner diffuser screen for a bathhouse

An original addition to the interior of the steam room will be a home-made lampshade for a bathhouse lamp in the form of a kind of diffusing screen. It’s not at all difficult to make, the main thing is to decide what shape the scattering hole will be.
  • We prepare a piece of thin board or wooden lining, the width and height of which corresponds to the parameters of the future lamp.
  • In the middle we draw the shape of a scattering hole. It could be Maple Leaf, abstraction, figure of a naked girl, the fabulous Leshy or any arbitrary image. It is important that it is not too small for sufficient light penetration and not too large so as not to blind the guests in the steam room.
  • Cut it out through hole along the contour of the drawing.
  • Sand the wood with fine-grained paper.
  • We knock three bars with a cross-section of 4 cm2 with galvanized fasteners into a right triangle, where the length of the hypotenuse should correspond to the width of the workpiece.
  • Using the same pattern, we knock down the second element. We sand the wood.
  • We attach the triangle at the top and bottom to the pre-prepared screen with self-tapping screws.
  • We fix it to the wall using galvanized fasteners.
The canvas on which the pattern is cut does not have to be rectangular in shape. You can use a shape in the form of an inverted bow, a trapezoid, or simply with curved lines.

Weaving a lampshade from a wicker for a bath

Weaving from thin wicker requires more effort and time, but we will consider the simplest version of the lampshade. Let's take willow twigs as a basis, since they are quite flexible and strong.

We weave a lampshade, adhering to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. We steam the rods so that they become more pliable in processing.
  2. After drying, we take three wooden and strong twig stands. Their height should correspond to the expected height of the lamp.
  3. We fix them in a strictly vertical position.
  4. We take the first rod, lead it behind the first post, pass it in front of the second and again behind the third.
  5. We bend it and carry it out in the reverse order in the same way.
  6. We repeat the action until the end of the twig. We take the next one and weave it in the same order.
  7. We weave to the top of the posts. We get a kind of canvas.
  8. At the top and bottom along the width of the canvas we nail a thin strip with a cross section of 4 cm 2.
  9. We nail two more planks of this cross-section to the base at an angle of 90 degrees to each other to form a triangle.
  10. We repeat the same procedure on top. For these purposes we use galvanized fasteners.
  11. We fix the lampshade in the corner of the steam room.
By improving your weaving skills, you can make a semicircular model or lampshade of other fancy shapes.

How to make a lampshade for a bathhouse - watch the video:

You can make an original lampshade for a bathhouse lamp yourself without any special carpentry skills. Correct selection material and following the instructions will greatly simplify this process. Do not forget that before installing the diffuser screen, the lamp should be installed in a sealed lampshade with a protection rating of at least IP 55.

Bathhouse lighting is different from what we have in an ordinary home. Modern look arrangement of this room involves taking into account two components: safety standards and aesthetic appeal. To understand how to choose a lamp for a bathhouse, we will consider the main criteria that it must obey, and also study the nuances of each variety.

Requirements

It's no secret that the bathhouse is a place with a high degree of humidity. This is especially true for a steam room, where moisture rises and has a negative impact for switches, sockets and lamps. For this reason, lighting fixtures located in the bathhouse must have the correct placement, which is decided at the design stage.

There should be no socket or switch in the steam room. They are taken to a dressing room or other room with a lower moisture coefficient and connected at a height of at least 80 cm from the floor.

Let's consider the basic requirements for lamps in the steam room, which should not be less than established standards IP-54. These devices will have to work in difficult conditions, marking in the form of a red IP-54 icon says about the safety of the lamp when used in conditions of high humidity:

  • IP stands for International Protection;
  • 5 – degree of protection against solid objects;
  • 4 – protection against steam and moisture leakage.

There are 4 main criteria that you need to pay attention to.

  • All components of the lighting device for the steam room must be heat-resistant. This means that they must withstand temperatures up to 120 degrees.
  • The lamp housing must be sealed. This rule is especially relevant for devices that use incandescent lamps. Each lamp must have a closed shade.
  • It is important that the device’s lampshade is durable. The design must withstand not only random mechanical impacts. A sharp change in temperature is also important, which should not affect the material of the lampshade.
  • The brightness of the lamp should be moderate. The bathhouse is a place for relaxation; there is no need to create bright light. It is important that the glow is soft and diffused.

Selecting housing and lamp power

The body of the heat-resistant lighting device for the walls and ceiling of the steam room is different. If the lamp is mounted in a wall, it must withstand temperatures of about 250 degrees. When the device is mounted to the wall, a 100 degree mark is sufficient.

The material of the lampshade can be:

  • porcelain;
  • ceramics;
  • heat-resistant plastic.

The seal must be made of rubber or silicone. This way moisture will not be able to get inside the lampshade.

Cannot be used in the steam room pendant lighting– it is better to purchase surface-type lamps.

The maximum permissible power of light sources should not exceed 60-75 Watts. If the power of the light bulbs is higher, this will cause the lampshade to heat up. The recommended voltage is 12 V. To maintain it, you will need a transformer, which should be placed outside the steam room.

Layout principles

Installation of lamps for a bath in a steam room is subject to certain placement principles.

  • It is impossible to install lighting devices near the stove, even taking into account the fact that the lamps are heat-resistant and moisture-proof. Not a single device is designed for the powerful steam of a heater.
  • Excessively yellow and cold tint is unacceptable luminous flux. You cannot equip a space with a large number of devices - this is harmful to the eyes and will create pressure on the retina.
  • The arrangement of the devices must be such that no movement can touch it with your head, hands, or broom.
  • To prevent the device from hitting your eyes, it should be positioned so that it is behind your back or in the corner of the steam room.
  • The ideal placement is to install the lamp on the wall at a distance equal to half the height of the wall. This way the load on the device will be less.

Varieties

Today, lamps for a steam room in a bathhouse are classified according to the type of device and the source of the lamp. Let's consider the types of models.

Traditional

These devices are nothing more than classic lamps in closed lampshades that are mounted on the wall or ceiling. The design is distinguished by a laconic shape (usually round), consists of a reliable and sealed body, as well as heat-resistant glass, mainly of a frosted type. These models have a low cost, which makes them in demand among buyers. They are functionally reliable, however decisive factor is the type of light source used under the shade. The design does not have parts prone to corrosion under the influence of moisture; they are equipped with a special waterproof gasket. Models are subject to the protection class of the established standard.

LED

These devices are now firmly among the top three most popular models; they have a lot of varieties. The main advantage of these devices is their resistance to any temperature regime and moisture. Depending on the type of lamp, it can even be mounted on the bottom of the pool, so this device for a bathhouse is much better suited than other varieties. The appearance of such devices depends on the wishes of the buyer.

Distinctive feature sealed devices is the presence of a special silicone film , which protects light sources. The sizes of LEDs can be different, which affects the intensity of the light flux. At the same time, the presence of the film makes the light soft and diffused. In shape, LED lamps are spot models, panels and flexible diode strip with different densities of diodes per square meter.

Fiber optic

These devices are glass threads with light sources at the ends. Outwardly, they resemble a lamp in the shape of a panicle with luminous ends. This lighting has a high degree of safety, since fiber optic threads can withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees. They are not afraid of anyone extreme conditions, these lamps are durable and provide even and soft light in the steam room.

The advantage of such lighting is the fact that you can do it yourself without resorting to the help of an outside specialist. In this case, an important factor is to install the projector outside of moisture and heat (in another room), while the wires themselves can go into the steam room, making, for example, wall panel. Moreover, the greater the thickness of the beam, the more design possibilities (for example, you can recreate a starry sky with twinkling stars of different sizes).

Sources of light

Based on the type of light source, lamps are divided into several categories. Let's look at the main ones to understand their relevance in the steam room. Ignorance of these nuances can cause a dangerous situation.

Incandescent lamps

These light sources are classic Ilyich bulbs. They have an incandescent filament and produce a predominantly warm light. The advantage is the price, but they have more disadvantages. They convert the bulk of the electricity consumed into heat - a small part is used for light (no more than 5% of total consumption). At the same time, the lamps become so hot even without high temperature that touching them can cause a burn. They are uneconomical, add heat to the lampshade, and are dangerous for the steam room. These also include halogen lamps, whose properties are slightly better.

Luminescent

LED

These light sources are rightfully recognized as harmless. Their price is not much different from fluorescent ones. At minimum power they shine quite brightly, in fact they are energy saving and do not contain mercury. The service life of such light sources is longer than any other analogues.

Their glow is directional, so it will not be possible to illuminate the entire space without shadow corners with one such lamp. However, if you use a perimeter strip light with two rows of diodes, you can achieve even lighting in the steam room. Due to its elasticity, the tape can be laid around the perimeter without the need for cutting. It is easy to attach, which allows you to corner options backlight.

How to choose?

When choosing a lamp for a bath in a steam room, you should pay attention to several nuances, knowledge of which will prolong the operation of the device and will not make you think about its safety.

  • When choosing, give preference to a device with a matte anti-fog lamp. With its help, the glow will be soft and diffused.
  • Portable mains powered lighting devices must not be used.
  • Exclude devices from the selection list daylight containing mercury. In addition to the fact that during operation they will release it into the air, in case of an accidental impact the concentration of toxins will be especially dangerous to health. If the temperature in the steam room is high, these light sources may burst.

  • The class of sockets must not be less than IP 54, while the switch can be marked up to IP 44, but not lower.
  • It makes sense to buy fiber optic lamps: they are safer than incandescent lamps and have a pleasant glow for the eyes.
  • If the steam room and washing room are combined, pay Special attention lamp safety. If this device will be mounted to the wall, take care of an additional lampshade or shield.
  • If your budget allows, opt for models with motion sensors.
  • Besides wall lighting, you may also need emergency lighting. In this case LED Strip Light will be the best solution.

In addition, do not forget the 4 golden rules of purchase:

  • you need to buy lamps and fixtures in a trusted store with a good reputation;
  • this product cannot be made from cheap raw materials;
  • If possible, check the operation of the lamps in the store itself;
  • do not buy goods at a discount - this is the first sign of a defect.

Installation

Every head of a family can install lighting in a steam room with his own hands. To do this yourself correctly, you should take care of a preliminary diagram in the form of a wiring drawing, which indicates the location of the lamps. In addition, it is important to purchase a wire with with the required section, which depends on the number of lamps. It is necessary to calculate the load and study the organization of grounding.

Let's look at a brief step-by-step instructions for installing lighting in a bathhouse.

  • The location of the lamp is marked with a cross. If you plan to install two devices, they must be symmetrical.
  • Power wiring is carried out using a three-core wire packed in a protective corrugation.
  • The laying is done away from the recessed lighting in order to prevent the wires from melting during operation of the lamps, fixing the wire to the sheathing or frame using special clips.
  • When supplying power to a group of lighting devices, the cable is laid in a cable with loops. If you plan to install devices with small mounting caps, you should use a single wire running from the junction box.
  • It is necessary to check the wiring, for which they use a lamp socket and a wire. You should not rely on a tester indicating the phase: it will not show zero loss. If the result is positive, the stripped ends of the wires must be insulated.

  • After the wiring is completed, the walls are sheathed, while simultaneously cutting out holes for the lamps. Diameter required hole indicated in the passport of a specific product. To do this, make markings, then use a drill or screwdriver.
  • If the model is overhead type, fasten mounting plate using dowels, avoiding getting under the wire. Then connect the power, observing the polarity. The lamp is then secured with screws.
  • For installation mortise model cut the loops from the wire, after which the two resulting ends of the cable are connected to the ceramic socket using twists, trying to insert the ends from the bottom of the screws under the terminal block. In this case, you cannot do without wrapping it with electrical tape.
  • If the lamp power is 12 W, it is necessary to add a step-down transformer to the circuit. This is done through the hole for the lamp, placing the transformer up to 1 device (this will make it easier to change it if necessary).
  • Since the devices are mounted without lamps, at this stage it is necessary to check their operation.
  • All that remains is to close the lampshade and check the difference if there are several lamps.

When passing light into the steam room, you cannot use flax as a lampshade seal: it expands under the influence of moisture and promotes condensation in the lamp socket.

Manufacturers

Having studied the basic criteria for choosing a lamp for a steam room and installation techniques, the question arises of choosing a specific brand with a good reputation. On modern market There are many models presented.

Products from Turkish and Finnish manufacturers are especially in demand. For example, Finnish trade marks Tylo and Harvia offer customers specialized moisture-resistant models for baths.

Bathhouse even in modern conditions is in great demand, because it is there that a person can truly relax, improve his health and relax. Considering this a large number of her positive qualities, many people with different financial incomes, status, physical conditions dream of having a real bath complex. Naturally, its size, design and cost depend directly solely on the owner. If a person has a well-developed imagination, he will be able to decorate his bathhouse on his own. In this article we will talk about how to make a lamp for a bathhouse with your own hands.

Features of making your own bath lamps

Before getting down to work, it is necessary to consider the main points that are directly related to the creation of such useful devices. Now we will talk about the main directions in which this topic is developing. What questions do home craftsmen most often ask?

According to the experience of specialists, they are divided into three blocks:

  1. Connecting lamps with your own hands. Here, of course, some knowledge in the field of electrical engineering will not be superfluous. There are some rules for working with electricity in conditions of high humidity and temperature, which you must understand and follow.
  2. Choosing the safest lighting devices for a bath. Make sure that they are not afraid of high temperature and humidity. If you don't right choice, then this can lead to serious problems.
  3. Manufacturing decorative screens, original lampshades, decorations for decorating individual rooms. It must be remembered that lamps are installed not only in the waiting room, but also in the steam room.

What should be the lighting system in the bathhouse?

Even at the stage of developing the technical design of the bathhouse, a special diagram should be drawn up, which will clearly indicate the location of sockets, switches and lamps. Naturally, we will touch on the last point concerning lighting devices. It is very important to determine where and how to place them, and what to pay maximum attention to when drawing up the diagram. When deciding to make a lamp for a bathhouse with your own hands, you need to dwell in more detail on the rules of lighting in a steam room.

Here are the basic requirements that such devices must meet:

  • The lighting should be soft, not directional, because no one will be pleased if the light hits the eyes.
  • Excessively bright light does not allow you to relax normally, because a steam room is not a place for manicures, shaving or applying makeup.
  • The lamps should be positioned so that high temperatures do not affect them too much. It is better to place them on the middle or lower levels, since it is too hot under the ceiling.
  • Each lamp must be protected by a grille or screen so that in the event of accidental damage, fragments do not fall on people relaxing in the steam room. In addition, in a richly humid steam room there is a high probability of electric shock.
  • In addition to the main lighting, specific places should also be illuminated - a doorway, a font, shelves, a place for placing water containers.

If you meet all these requirements, then your home steam room will become the most cozy place, where people won’t bump into each other and be afraid of getting hurt.

Waterproof lighting for steam rooms

When planning to make a bathhouse lamp with your own hands from wood, first of all figure out some little things that will undoubtedly help you make the right choice and create exactly what you need.

This information may include the following:

  • The level of protection of an electrical device from moisture and solid particles, which are usually indicated on the housing or packaging of the devices. It is the combination of several letters that indicates what degree of protection the lamps have.
  • Thermal stability of the materials from which the body is made. Here the temperature of the steam room must be taken into account, which can range from 60 to 120 degrees. You should focus on the highest indicator.

Important! The housing of the lighting device must be sealed, equipped with a rubber or silicone seal that does not allow moisture to penetrate inside. It is recommended to choose LED or fluorescent lamps for lamps, since they do not heat up much when burning compared to ordinary incandescent lamps.

Homemade lamps for the steam room

Of course, it’s better not to complicate your work and not make a device from scratch, so let’s focus on making decorative grilles, unique lampshades and screens. Everyone decides for themselves whether it will be fluorescent, fiber optic or LED devices. The main role is played by the cost of the limiter.

Wood lamp with decorative grille

Many bathhouses, built with one’s own hands, are incredibly beautiful and unique interior, finished mostly with wood. Of course, it is more appropriate to equip rooms lined with clapboard, with floor trays and shelves made of poplar or linden, with wooden lamps.

Important! Wooden decorative lattice will fit perfectly into the decoration of the steam room and protect the device from accidental damage; the light will be able to diffuse softly, while creating a relaxing atmosphere of comfort.

The decorative grille includes the following elements:

  • Upper and lower bases.
  • Rails attached to the body.

Create a lamp according to the following diagram:

  • Frame. This part may differ in shape, it all depends on where you want to place the device. If this is a wall lamp, then give it a semicircular or rectangular shape. If it is located in a corner, then its shape should be close to trapezoidal or triangular.
  • Reiki. Calculate the length of the slats for each grille - everything here depends on the dimensions of the device located behind it. If you want to get a strict lattice, then take wide rectangular slats and connect them in parallel rows or cross them with the letter X.

Important! For lovers of everything elegant, figured slats are suitable. Round off all sharp edges and carefully sand the surface to give the grate an elegant look.

  • Attach the strips to the frame using self-tapping screws from the inside so that they are hidden from the outside. The fact is that too high a temperature instantly heats up metal parts, and if you accidentally touch them, you can get a severe burn.

By analogy, create several gratings, and your DIY wooden sauna lamps are ready.

Diffusing screen to protect the luminaire

The grid is considered the most simple option finishing of lighting devices, but, fortunately, not the only one. Another great option is a special diffuser screen.

To make it yourself, prepare the following materials:

  • Birch bark or tree.
  • Thin but quite strong fabric.
  • Clay.
  • Plastic.
  • Paper.
  • Glass.

When creating a lamp for a steam room with your own hands, it is better to choose wood for making the screen, because compliance with the following requirements plays an incredibly important role here:

  • Sufficient level of hardness. The screen should not only decorate, but also protect the lamp from accidental impacts.
  • Low level of heat capacity. This element should not get very hot, otherwise it will be difficult to avoid burns.
  • Easy to process. You can give the screen the desired shape yourself.

You will need to follow these steps to create the screen.

People go to the bathhouse not only to wash themselves, but also to simply relax and recuperate. However, it is unlikely that you will be able to relax in a steam room or a sink without good lighting. The problem is that not every lamp can be installed in a bathhouse with its aggressive environment.

Buying a lamp in a store - what you need to know about the labeling

There are three options for how to make a bathhouse bright: buy a factory-made lamp for the bathhouse, order an original work, or make it yourself. Unfortunately, perfect solution does not exist, and any method will have disadvantages. In the case of factory-made products, there is no need to talk about originality; original work is not cheap, and to do everything with your own hands is sometimes simply not enough time.

Everyone chooses for themselves what they are willing to put up with and what they want to correct. For example, a lamp purchased in a store can be modified, and it will add originality to the bath interior. Or you can choose a free day and do the lighting yourself. As a rule, the practicality, cost, and beauty of products coming out of a home workshop are not inferior to the handicrafts of recognized designers.

All electrical devices are classified according to their degree of protection. Bathroom lamps are no exception. When going to the store, study what the abbreviation and numbers on the lamp mean. The table below will help with this:

For our purposes, lighting fixtures with protection class IP 54 and higher are suitable, where the number “5” indicates partial protection from contact, and “4” protection against splashes and drops from any direction. However, in store windows you can also find bath devices marked 56 and higher. By the way, this information will also be useful when creating homemade lamp.

Types of factory lamps for a bath - which one to choose

The steam room and washing room have different microclimates. Sometimes this simple fact confuses novice craftsmen. They leaf through catalogs in search of the best option separately for the steam room, relaxation area and washing department. In fact, all rooms in the bathhouse are different. high humidity. This means that a bath lamp marked IP 54 can be installed in any of the listed rooms. However, do not think that all devices are made as carbon copies; on sale you can find:

  • lighting systems based on optical fiber;
  • lamps with incandescent lamps;
  • LED bulbs.

Standard devices with incandescent lamps are equipped with rubber or silicone seals. The latter option is preferable; silicone is more durable than rubber. Another nuance is that the power of the light bulb should not exceed 60 W to avoid its strong heating. Sometimes a few degrees are enough for it to flare up wood paneling steam room However, the low price of such lamps (from 300 rubles) ensures their popularity. Although the appearance leaves much to be desired.

Another option is LED lights. They are considered practically safe. The disadvantages of such devices are considered to be relatively high price and too bright light. However, the latter can be corrected with the help of a lampshade and thoughtful placement.

Fiber optic lighting devices have no equal in terms of safety. Optical fiber emits only light waves. Another advantage is resistance to high temperatures (up to 200°C).

The only downside is the price. It’s hard to call it loyal; the cost of the kit starts from 20 thousand rubles.

Electrical safety rules - installation location, wiring

Regardless of the type of lamp chosen, the quality of lighting is affected by its location, and the safety of the connection and wiring. Even fiber optic systems are not recommended to be placed near or directly above the furnace. However, installation requirements vary depending on the purpose of the room.

For example, lamps for a steam room are mounted under the ceiling (higher than human height) or in a corner, but so that it cannot be accidentally touched. Required condition operation of an electrical device - a gasket made of non-flammable material - plastic, stainless steel, ceramics.

There are also installation rules for the washing machine:

  • The lamp is installed as far as possible from water (shower, font, tap, barrel).
  • For its installation, select the driest place in the washing room.

There will be peace of mind for the health of family and friends when installing devices with a power of no more than 12 V. The generally safe distance from the lamp to the water source is 60 cm. However, installation is the final touch. The selection of lamps, their location, connection methods are determined at the preparation stage.

Electrical panels and RCDs (residual current devices), switches, and sockets are prohibited from being installed in a sink or steam room. Their place is in a rest room or other room where there is no water or heat.

The first step in electrifying a bathhouse is creating an installation diagram.

It takes into account the power of all devices that will be used in the bathhouse: lamps, TV, (in the relaxation room), water heater, washing machine. Based on these indicators, wires are selected.

Purchase cables only in specialized stores and only from trusted manufacturers. Because small Chinese and Turkish companies, with a stated cross-section of 1 mm, often supply wires with a thickness of 0.95 or even 0.75 mm. If it is impossible to buy a branded cable, add 25% to the declared power of the Chinese/Turkish .

But let’s leave aside the power supply to all electrical devices and focus on lighting. As a rule, for these purposes they use heat-resistant wires marked PMTC, PVKV, RKGM, APPV in the steam room. Cables with increased protection from moisture and temperature.

Most baths use wood for decoration. And find a factory one original lamp, fitting into the interior is not easy. As a rule, factory products are characterized by a strict Spartan design. The solution is a wooden lampshade. Stores specializing in the sale of bath accessories will offer you many options. And quite inexpensive.

The problem is that a bathhouse designed in this way loses much of its originality. Stamping production has accustomed people to the same furniture and things. But individuality is always valuable.

So, let's stock up on wood for work. For our purposes, linden, larch, cedar or aspen are suitable. You can also use the remains of the lining as raw materials for the lampshade. In this case, the lamp is guaranteed to fit into the decor.

Of course, you want to immediately make a lamp that will amaze your home with its beauty and sophistication. But it’s better to go from simple to complex, developing skills. Our first product will be a classic diffuser lampshade.

The design is very simple. As is manufacturing. First of all, we make vertical jumpers. If you have the appropriate tool and desire, make them round; if not, it’s easier to cut square slats. To create the lower and upper holders we will use planed boards.

Making such a lampshade consists of several simple operations:

  • We make drawings of the future product on paper and prepare patterns for future holders.
  • We cut out the holders - apply the pattern to the workpiece and trace it with a pencil.
  • Sand all parts using sandpaper.
  • We drill holes for the round jumpers with a drill of the appropriate diameter. For rectangular slats, the groove is made as follows: two holes are drilled side by side, and the jumper between them is removed with a chisel.
  • We assemble the details of the lampshade into a single whole. Let's pay attention to the upper and lower holders - they must be parallel.

The finished product is hung in the bathhouse on galvanized fasteners, masking the dry forms of the factory lamp. In the future, the design can be complicated by adding carved lintels and holders complex shape. But a homemade lampshade is half measures. A lamp made entirely in a home workshop will be truly unique.

LED lamp – piece production

In terms of price – quality – safety, LED lighting devices are the leaders. They are several times cheaper than fiber optic systems, but at the same time much more reliable than “Ilyich bulbs”. For a novice master to master the technology of creating LED lamp quite capable.

The work begins with sketching and preparation necessary materials. We will need: glass (4 mm), plywood (for templates), wood, electrical insulating material (getinax), LEDs (80 pcs.), regular superglue, assembly adhesive, aluminum tape, PET film that can withstand at least 120 degrees.

First of all, we will cut out a template of parts from plywood that will later become the basis of the lamp.

The dimensions of the parts depend on the dimensions of the room. And it's better to do everything necessary measurements in advance. As a last resort, let's try on a pattern for the location of the lamp.

Transfer the template to the wood. It is better to use linden or aspen - species that are resistant to moisture and do not emit resins.

We make all the parts in a double set. This will allow you to quickly replace the damaged part or, if there is no defect, make a second lamp.

The next step is making vertical slats.

We require blanks of the following sizes:

  • 75*3.5*1.5 cm – 4 pcs;
  • 75*4*1.5 cm – 8 pcs;
  • 75*4.5*1.5 cm – 4 pcs;
  • 550*5*2 cm – 4 pcs.

In the last four pieces we cut out grooves for glass. Then we assemble them into a single whole using the base parts (smearing them with wood glue and tightening them with self-tapping screws).

We screw the strips to support the glass to the main parts.

Working with slats. We attach them to the frame and mark the places where they will be attached. Two of them (75*4.5*1.5 cm) will press the glass from the outside.

The most difficult part remains - working with LEDs. We need to apply markings to the getinax sheet (the dimensions depend on your lamp). To do this, we will use the MS Word program - on an A4 sheet we will make the following markings:

The distance between the nodes is 3 cm. Then we glue the printed sheet to getinax (stationery glue). Drill holes for diodes according to the markings (diameter 5 mm) and wash off the paper .

Then we wrap the plate aluminum tape- this is our reflector.

We insert the LEDs into the prepared sockets in the getinax, solder them from the back into ten chains of four LEDs each and combine them into a common circuit. To power it, you need a transformer with a voltage of 12 V. You can use a block from an old garland or halogen lamps.

After this, we protect the rail with the groove for the glass with aluminum tape and install the getinax into the frame.

Additionally, we protect the panel with LEDs with PET film. Install the glass into the grooves. Then we fasten the slats. Don't forget, two of them should press the glass. If you are concerned about excessive brightness of the light, make a drink as shown in the picture.

Not everyone pays due attention to lighting fixtures when arranging a bathhouse. However, a DIY sauna lamp is not only beautiful and original item interior, but also protects against burns, as well as diffuses light, which plays a huge role, since this is a place where a person should rest both soul and body, and too much illumination interferes with this.

There are several options for creating bathhouse lamps with your own hands, photos of which can be found below. Some of them are extremely simple and will not take much time to make. Especially worth mentioning wooden structures, which will fit perfectly into any bathhouse.

There are a lot of requirements for lighting devices located in rooms with high humidity and sudden temperature changes. Devices can be dangerous, so when manufacturing such elements you need to take into account all the nuances.

A special requirement for a bath lampshade is reliable protection from a heated light bulb, the ability to properly diffuse the light and make it soft and pleasant to the eye.

Do you need a lampshade in a bathhouse?

Traditionally, in all rooms of the bathhouse, including the steam room, lighting sources are located in the corner. This allows you to get high-quality lighting with a small number of light bulbs. Considering that in most steam rooms there is very little free space, it is very easy to touch a hot lamp. To avoid burns and other troubles, you should cover the light bulb with a lampshade. You can create a beautiful corner or regular wall option with your own hands.

Experts recommend installing several light sources in the steam room at once. You don't need to use them all at once, just have one as a spare in case the first bulb burns out. This lamp also needs to be covered with a lampshade.

Preparatory work

It is not at all necessary to have skills in carpentry to make beautiful lamp for a wooden bath with your own hands. The most important thing is to choose the right material and determine the type of model. Bath lampshades can be wall or corner. In addition, it is important to determine the size of the product so that the lamp performs its functions well. To make the work easier and more accurate, it is worth drawing everything out on paper. Using these blanks, the drawings will be transferred to wood or other materials from which the bath lampshade will be made.

Experts recommend that beginners take a closer look at wooden products; these materials are the easiest to work with.
Lamps made of wicker and birch bark are quite popular, but this is a job for experienced craftsmen. All these materials have one thing in common: they are optimally suited for, that is, they can easily withstand high temperatures and high humidity.

When choosing suitable material To make a lampshade for a bathhouse lamp with your own hands, you need to pay attention to such characteristics as low thermal conductivity, safety, moisture and heat resistance, as well as durability. In addition, ease of processing, decorative qualities and compliance with the overall style of the interior play a huge role.

Professional craftsmen recommend choosing aspen, cedar or larch. The last 2 types of wood are highly durable, but the price of such material is quite high. If you have no experience working on a bath lampshade, you can choose cheaper wood.

The use of pine and spruce is not recommended. When heated, they release strong pine aroma, which may not be to everyone's liking. Moreover, pine is very resinous, so you can get burned on it. If the master decides to choose spruce or pine, they should be dried by about 15%.

The simplest and in a convenient way choosing wood for the lampshade will be using leftovers finishing materials. Thus, the finished lamp will fit perfectly general design and style.

In addition to the tree itself, you will need sandpaper, fasteners and glue. It is also important to process wooden parts special solutions that will extend their shelf life.

Wooden grille-lampshade

It is very easy to make such a lamp yourself. Moreover, the design may be different, depending on the preferences of the master. The bars of the lattice can be installed vertically, horizontally or diagonally. It all depends on the overall design of the room.

If we are talking about a horizontal or vertical grill, you need to cut wooden blocks the same length, and then sand them thoroughly and coat them with a special solution. After this, the slats are nailed onto the frame, which can be C- or U-shaped. It is advisable to first draw the entire project on paper so that all the details are accurate and fit in size.

You need to sand the wood with coarse-grained sandpaper, and then with fine-grained paper. The height of the slats determines how large the lampshade will be. You need to nail it to the base at a distance of about 1 cm. This will allow you to get pleasant soft lighting in the steam room. It is best to install the lamp in a bathhouse using galvanized self-tapping screws. They can also be used to attach slats. In some cases, craftsmen recommend using good glue for this.

If the light bulbs in the steam room are located in the corners, you need to prepare the corresponding lamps. They are made on the same principle as regular wall lamps, but their base should be half the size of the letter C. You must first carefully measure everything so that the lampshade fits perfectly for a specific angle. If the bathhouse was built correctly, the angle of the lamp will be 90°.

To make a corner lamp for a bathhouse with your own hands, it is better to choose vertical version fastening the slats. In addition, it will be much easier to work and you won’t have to cut anything out and adjust it to size again.

Lamp made of wicker

While it’s quite easy to make a lampshade for a steam room from wooden blocks or clapboard, then using wicker is a task for professionals. Here you need to be able not only to choose the right material, but also to know the basics of working with it.

Most often, specialists work with willow twigs. They are quite flexible, but at the same time they are highly durable. First of all, the material needs to be steamed. This will make the twigs soft and pliable. Next, take several thick rods for the stand. It is best if there are 3 of them. The height of the stands will be equal to the height of the wicker lampshade. After fixing the twigs, weaving begins.

An approximate type of wicker lamps can be seen in baskets and furniture made of wicker. These options look very good and last a long time. It is important, after finishing work on making a wicker lampshade, to treat the product with a special solution and varnish it. This will extend the life of the lamp. It is attached, like the grille lampshade, to galvanized self-tapping screws. You should not glue the lamp to the wall, as problems may arise if the need to replace the light bulb arises.

That's not all possible options manufacturing wooden lampshades to a bath lamp with your own hands. If the owner of the steam room has skills in working with wood, you can create more original options. Here everything will depend solely on the imagination of the master. For those who have no experience working with wood, you can choose the first and simplest option.
