If you're tired of constant clutter and lack of storage space, you should think about a wardrobe. The most appropriate place for its installation - a bedroom or hallway. In the article we will talk about the wardrobe in the hallway, it is a little different from the usual one.

As a rule, the width of the hallway is small, so they install narrow furniture 45-50 cm deep, so as not to block the passage. You can safely subtract approximately 8 cm from the total depth - they will be eaten up by the width of the sliding door rails. If the hallway allows it, it is better to make the standard closet depth 60 cm to make it more convenient to store clothes on hangers.

The second difference: filling. If the main elements of filling a closet in the bedroom are shelves and pull-out laundry baskets, then in the hallway you need to provide space for outerwear, shoes, household goods and cleaning supplies.

Filling a wardrobe in the hallway

What contents and accessories can a wardrobe have?

    • Shelves can be made from the same laminated chipboard, but you don’t need to skimp on the edges: melamine won’t last long.
    • Tubes for clothes are used only in cabinets with a depth of more than 500 mm (for ease of use), and the hangers are located perpendicular to the back wall.
    • For wardrobes in the hallway (less than 500 mm), the use of end hangers (pull-out) will be relevant. They can be mounted parallel to the back wall, but in terms of capacity they are inferior to standard clothes rails.

  • Drawers. Do not buy cheap white guides for 30 rubles, they will not allow you to open more than half of them normally. Ball slides are better (usually they are not painted), they allow the drawers to be pulled out completely without the risk of tipping over. The overpayment will be no more than 100-150 rubles. for a couple.
  • Shoe net – important element each hallway. There are multi-level and retractable ones.

The remaining elements, as a rule, greatly increase the cost of filling, and are rarely used.

Cabinet design

An example of filling a three-door wardrobe with an ironing board and a vacuum cleaner

When filling a cabinet, it is usually divided into zones using partitions according to the width of the doors. IN classic version The main filling space is occupied by the wardrobe section with a hanger bar, open and closed shelves for clothes and shoes. The rest of the space is occupied by a utility unit for storing an ironing board, vacuum cleaner and other things.

When designing, you can use special programs like “Basis-Closet” (it’s paid, but you can find other analogues, or do a good search on the Internet), and if you want, you can actually do everything on paper.

Since usually one wall of a built-in wardrobe is a wall, you will need a minimum of parts:

  • one full-length side wall;
  • 1-2 internal partitions the full height of the cabinet, depending on the number of doors;
  • a narrow piece about 10 cm wide - to refine the remaining 3 sides of the opening (floor, ceiling and wall);
  • the rest of the details for arranging the shelves (almost always a mezzanine is made for rarely used things, and the rest is optional);
An example of a built-in wardrobe with one full-size wall. The connection between the sliding door and the wall is formed by a narrow strip of laminated chipboard.

Minimum distance from the inside of the wardrobe door to the beginning of the shelf in the Aristo and Laguna sliding systems is 9-10 cm. The Versailles sliding system allows you to make shelves close to the top rail, but it is recommended to retreat at least 1 cm.

    • If the plans after assembling the built-in wardrobe are wall-mounted or suspended ceiling, it is important to provide in advance a structure for attaching the profiles: lower the top level doors and do not make them straight to the ceiling. This is done using a homemade inverted U-shaped box, which is screwed to the ceiling (it will act as a base for the upper door rail). The ceiling will already be attached to the end of the box.

Installation diagram of a built-in wardrobe and suspended ceiling
  • If you need to leave the possibility of dismantling the cabinet without replacing the suspended ceiling (or it is already installed), it is best to make the cabinet almost to the ceiling level and close the top with a lid. To prevent dust from collecting at the top, the gap is covered with a border.
  • In the drawing, it is necessary to calculate the dimensions of each part and determine the location of the edge and its thickness. There is information about this in detail in a separate article. In a nutshell: it is better to order edging immediately after cutting from the same company so that the factory PVC edge can be glued on. All visible places are covered with a PVC edge of 2 mm, and the rest - 0.4 mm. Those parts of the parts that will be joined to others do not need to be coated.
  • Another problem is crooked walls. Imagine: ordered cutting laminated chipboard, the edges were done, home delivery was ordered, and at the time of installation they suddenly discovered that there was a gap of a couple of centimeters at the back wall. If you cut the finished sheet with a jigsaw, the situation gets worse. Of course, some of the problems will be solved by adding a PVC U-profile to the end, but it is still better to check the evenness of the walls in advance and, if necessary, level them. It is almost impossible to cut laminated chipboard well under a crooked wall at home; for this you will need at least Circular Saw with guides.
  • If it is necessary to cut the laminated chipboard and the cut area is exposed (the most vulnerable place for moisture from shoes, clothes, umbrellas), it is closed. At home, there are two options: stick the melamine edge with an iron or install an overlay U-profile.
  • You don’t have to finish the interior with anything, but simply cover the walls with high-quality paint in advance.

Selection of materials

For the walls of sliding wardrobes, standard laminated chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm is most often used. Of course, you can save money and use available materials, plywood and others, and then improve them: paint, glue, finish with leftover laminate, etc. But in such cases, the result will be appropriate.

To fill the blind doors of sliding wardrobes, laminated chipboard with a thickness of 10 mm is used.

The main material for making furniture is laminated chipboard; many people know about its harmful formaldehyde emissions. Edging allows you to reduce the indicator, but, of course, does not completely remove the discharge.

Many domestic producers the environmental friendliness of laminated chipboards is neglected to reduce production costs, and some of the types can exceed the maximum established concentration by up to 40 times. If we take chipboard from foreign manufacturers, for example, Egger with class E1, then they can emit up to 8 times more formaldehyde than recommended by GOST 10632-2007.

E1 class chipboards are no longer produced abroad, but only ultra-safe Super E class boards are used.

For the corridor and hallway, class E1 is ideal, but costs more than the domestic one (450-800 versus 350 rubles per square).

For doors, try to use non-marking materials. The most win-win option is a mirror, or a mirror with laminated chipboard inserts. It is better not to use sandblasting, as stains on such glass are difficult to remove.

Cabinet assembly

    • Assembly begins by installing the main walls and edging the opening around the perimeter with narrow strips of laminated chipboard.

    • The frame is attached to the walls, ceiling, floor with dowels.
    • The parts are assembled together using corners. If you want to do it beautifully, use plastic furniture corners that will cover the screw heads. If the main thing is a reliable result, you can use small steel angles.

  • The best and modern way to fasten parts to each other is to use furniture bolts (Euroscrew), but they require pre-drilling holes, which is difficult to do by eye. To create holes, use a special confirmat drill (you can do without it, but you will have to use several drills of different diameters).
  • If fastening with euroscrews is planned, furniture dowels are used for additional rigidity and preliminary fixation of parts.
  • The Euroscrews are tightened with a hexagon, and plugs are inserted into the caps to match the color of the cabinet.
  • When the base of the cabinet is ready, they begin to install the partitions, and then the shelves themselves.

Fastening the shelves

Options for shelf supports made of plastic and metal

Shelves can be attached in several ways, we list them.

  • Corners - simple, but ugly. This method is good only in extreme cases when other types of fastening are not suitable.
  • Confirmats (euroscrews) - reliable, suitable for high loads, but they are used only in invisible places, so as not to spoil the appearance with caps.
  • Eccentrics are a good, but labor-intensive method, and the screw head (plug) will be visible from the bottom of the shelves.
  • Shelf supports – best option, they are not visible from both sides.

Sliding doors

The most complex element of a wardrobe is sliding doors. You can’t skimp on fittings here, otherwise you’ll suffer with doors jamming and falling out. In almost every city you can find domestic sliding systems from Aristo, Versailles, Polish Laguna, they are pretty good for their price. Attaching a 4 mm mirror to a profile using a silicone attachment

A wardrobe in a hallway usually consists of two, less often three doors. Each door is a canvas enclosed on four sides in a frame made of aluminum profiles. It does not have to be uniform, the parts can be combined freely, and a special profile is used for joining at any angle. Standard profiles are designed for chipboard thickness of 10 mm.

A mirror 4 mm thick can also be easily inserted into such profiles, after first placing a silicone seal around the perimeter, which will add the missing 6 mm.

The main thing is to buy mirrors with a special elastic film that will hold the fragments in the event of a strong impact.

Can be ordered ready doors or assemble them yourself. There are no particular difficulties: you just need to put the material in a frame and tie it with screws.

With closed handle With open handle Sectional door Vertical and horizontal profiles

Assembly begins with transverse profiles. They are filled using a rubber hammer, or through wooden spacer.

After the horizontal profiles, vertical handles are stuffed and secured with 5x30 or 6x35 mm self-tapping screws. Before the final frame tightening, the upper and lower rollers are installed.

To prevent the fastening from being visible, holes for screws are made with drills of several diameters: first big hole 9 mm will freely let the cap inside the profile (if you look at it in section, you can see the compartment that will hide the cap). The second 5 mm hole is made under the screw leg (see photo).

The screw head will be hidden inside the profile. The lower rollers are screwed together with the bolts

Horizontal and vertical profiles are different. IN vertical profiles As a result, you should end up with three holes: one at the top and bottom for assembly, and one at the bottom for attaching the lower rollers.

Top rail fastening

The door itself will ride on guides that are mounted in the same plane at the top and bottom. The upper rails will ensure the doors are fixed relative to the depth, and the lower rails will ensure opening/closing. The lower rollers are most often made of plastic, have shock absorption in the form of a spring and a screw for adjusting the door height. The upper rollers have a rubberized surface.

Upper and lower guides in the Prestige system
Upper and lower guides in the Senator system

All aluminum profiles and guides are cut to size and screwed onto self-tapping screws. You will need to install a door stop in the bottom rail. If desired, closers are installed in the upper guides, which themselves will close the door completely.

To install the doors, first insert it into the far channel of the upper guide, and then insert it into the corresponding lower channel. Second doors are also installed.

Door installation

After installation, the lower rollers are adjusted along the vertical wall of the cabinet so that there are no gaps. Schlegel (buffer tape) is glued to the vertical handles.

Assembly of the kitchen and wardrobe - the most available options to test your skills. Such cabinet furniture does not require development special design or use non-standard solutions. You just have to choose the finished material, color and assemble it correctly.

Many apartments do not have much space in the hallway to accommodate voluminous and truly spacious closet, and the modern furniture market often offers models that are simply not suitable for home interior. IN in this case, ideal option will become self-creation furniture for the hallway, which will significantly save money and allow you to create exactly the cabinet that will perfectly complement the interior, while preserving the available space.

Each wardrobe has a description, but the main purpose of placing a wardrobe in the hallway is to store clothes and shoes of different seasons, as well as hats and even household appliances. This interior detail is considered not only fashionable, but also quite convenient, because a closet with sliding doors takes up a lot of space. less space compared to a traditional cabinet with hinged elements.

To ensure that the cabinet fits perfectly into the interior, does not interfere with the passage and is simply located in its place, it is recommended to follow simple rules.

Namely:

  • To increase the illumination of the room, you can order a wardrobe with already built-in lamps in the furniture canopy.
  • Visually expand the space often small hallways mirrored doors will help.
  • The closet should have shelves that allow you to place hats, bags and umbrellas.
  • There should be shelves for shoes at the bottom of the furniture.
  • Next to the wardrobe you can place open shelves, a cabinet or hooks on which you can hang outerwear. This addition will make the design easier and will be an excellent functional addition.
  • The standard depth of a wardrobe is 60-65 cm. As the depth of the furniture increases, the hallway space will be “eaten up”.

The walls of the apartment and the floor can act as the back wall, side panels, bottom and roof of the wardrobe, thanks to which you can save on materials. It is not recommended to use this solution if the walls are made of plasterboard.

DIY wardrobe in the hallway

It is quite possible to design a wardrobe yourself. This option will not only help you save money, but will also allow you to create the furniture that will best fit into the already formed interior design of the corridor.

In order to make a wardrobe with your own hands, you need tools and materials such as furniture screws and a screwdriver, a tape measure, construction knife, hinges and corners, saw (or jigsaw), handles, monorails for sliding doors, stoppers and the material itself for making the cabinet.

To make furniture with your own hands you don’t need professional tool or special skills.

It is enough to take correct measurements and decide on the internal content of the furniture in the hallway according to the following rules:

  1. Necessary and small things should be in front of your eyes;
  2. Valuables are stored in boxes;
  3. Dry ones are placed higher on the shelves.

It is worth remembering that over the years, the family may grow, children appear or relatives arrive, which requires additional space. It is recommended to think through all the functional sections in advance and make the wardrobe more spacious.

Thanks to the wide variety of materials, furniture in the hallway can be made in the desired shade, ranging from the lightest and bleached to dark wenge. The cabinet design should mandatory take into account the curvature of the walls and ceiling, because when creating a corner cabinet, the existing angle of the walls is unlikely to be equal to 90 degrees.

Cutting and cutting material at home should take into account a margin of 2-3 cm for further adjustments. This advice will allow you to avoid errors in calculations and allow you to save the material.

An excellent option would be to use materials such as laminated chipboard or chipboard. In some cases, drywall is also used to create cabinets.

When cutting and cutting cabinet parts, you need to remember that:

  • The height of the cabinet base is 10 cm;
  • A gap of 1-2 mm is left at the edge;
  • The drawer front gap should be 1.5 mm;
  • The internal parts of the cabinet should be 10 cm less than the very depth of the outer body of the furniture.

An excellent option in the process of creating furniture at home would be to use a plumb line and building level, which will allow you to take into account all the unevenness of the floor, walls and ceiling. To assemble a cabinet at home, you need to spend up to three days.

Sliding wardrobe for the hallway photo diagram and dimensions

Before purchasing materials and fittings, it is recommended to draw up a detailed diagram of the façade. The drawing must take into account optimal sizes doors – 60-90 cm and profile width – 4 cm.

Scheme internal space The wardrobe is formed based on the following dimensions:

  • The permissible distance between shelves is 30-40 cm;
  • The height of the section for clothes should be equal to its length and an additional 10 cm;
  • The maximum height of the mezzanine shelf should not exceed 50 cm;
  • The permissible depth of the drawers is 50 cm with a total cabinet depth of 60 cm;

Drawings of the wardrobe should also be formed taking into account the thickness of the partitions.

How to make a hallway cabinet with your own hands and assemble it correctly

You can also create a closet at home from elements that will be cut to order. This option will allow you to avoid many errors and extra costs for purchase additional material. To assemble the cabinet parts you will need screws, furniture corners and dowels. Before sawing doors and shelves, it is recommended to decide in advance which ones suspension systems and fittings will be used, because the final result of cutting the elements depends on the method of suspension and the required clearances.

Cabinet assembly sequence:

  1. A plinth or adjustable legs closet
  2. The sides are attached and internal filling(niches are formed).
  3. The roof is attached to the structure, and additional shelves are installed.
  4. After installing the furniture in its place, the facade parts are mounted and glass shelves(if there is).

The hallway closet can be decorated with mirrors, wood and paintings. Of course, it is better to use acrylic mirrors, which are less fragile and lighter. If there is a desire to create an additional light source in the cabinet design, then you should opt for low-power halogen light bulbs (12 V). Power for such lamps is provided using an adapter connected to an outlet. Wiring 220 V into the cabinet is neither safe nor rational.

Assembling a wardrobe in the hallway with your own hands (video)

By creating a wardrobe with your own hands at home, you can save up to 50% of the cost of purchased furniture. The big advantage is that the cabinet will fit perfectly into the dimensions of the existing hallway. It is also worth noting that it will take up to two weeks to make a custom cabinet, and the final result may not be pleasing at all.

Often in small apartments there is not enough space to store things, so they are often in plain sight, creating clutter.

If you're tired of this, then you should think about it.

Let's look at how to install it in the hallway yourself.

Before starting work, you need to collect the necessary tool:

  • construction corner;
  • drill;
  • roulette;
  • level;
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • electric jigsaw.

Materials

The most popular material for the construction of wardrobe walls is laminated chipboard 16 mm thick.

This is not a mandatory material; if you want to save money, you can use gypsum plasterboard or fiberboard, only after assembly this material will need to be further refined.

But it is worth remembering that using leftover material, the result will be appropriate.

You can also use MDF to build a wardrobe, furniture boards sold in construction stores. It is worth noting that this material is slightly cheaper than laminated chipboard.

Solid wood– the most environmentally friendly, natural material, but quite expensive, especially if you buy already cut and planed boards with groove fasteners. Despite the high cost, many ordinary people prefer this particular material for making furniture with their own hands, for its advantages:

  • environmentally friendly;
  • “breathable” - things will not suffocate in such a design;
  • easy to process and assemble;
  • Possibility to decorate with wood carvings.

The material can be purchased everywhere, but when used, the cost of the structure will increase several times.

For doors, it is better to purchase non-staining materials. The most preferred is - patterned glass or mirror. Laminated chipboard with a thickness of 10 mm is also suitable for doors.

Filling

Once the issue with the manufacturing material is resolved, the next problem arises - accessories and content:

  • shelves– they can be made of either wood or laminated chipboard, but you should understand that if you do not install special edges on the second option, the shelves will not last long;
  • tubes for clothes hangers. If the closet in the hallway is less than 50 cm thick, it would be more relevant to use end guides for hangers. In this case, it is better not to save money, but to use ball elements;
  • drawers , you can buy ready-made ones or build them yourself from chipboard and plywood. It’s also better not to skimp on fittings for drawers, since a simple retractable mechanism will not work for long, and there is always a chance that the drawer may fall out;
  • shoe net– it is advisable to buy a multi-level one. This way, each household member will have their own place for shoes.

It’s worth noting right away that the more fittings are installed in a cabinet, the more expensive it becomes.

Drawings and diagrams of a wardrobe in a niche

When filling, the cabinet must be divided into zones using partitions. During installation classic wardrobe, the main part of the closet is occupied by space for hangers with clothes, a net for shoes and open or closed shelves for things. The remaining space is taken up by storage space for household items, for example, a vacuum cleaner, ironing board, buckets, broom, and so on.

You can design a wardrobe using a special program on the Internet or a ruler and pencil on plain paper.

Usually the wall serves as one of the side walls of the built-in closet, so you will need few parts:

  • one wall height from floor to ceiling;
  • depending on how many doors you plan to install, you will need 1 or 2 partitions, height from floor to ceiling;
  • a small piece 10-15 cm wide - in order to refine the opening after assembling the cabinet;
  • shelf under the mezzanine - things that are used very rarely will be stored there. Other shelves and drawers as needed.

Advice. If there is a niche in the hallway, then you can use it to install a built-in wardrobe with your own hands. This option will cost less, since the walls of the niche will serve as the side walls. It is enough to mount the filling with partitions and install the door.

The depth of the shelves is calculated based on door design who is planning to adopt. Some rails allow you to install shelves of maximum depth - just step back a centimeter from the edge. In others, for quality work door leaf it will take almost 10 cm.

Important. If, after installing the wardrobe, a suspended ceiling is planned, then it is worth providing a mortgage for fastening the profile. Step back a few centimeters from the ceiling, rather than making the door from ceiling to floor. This is very easy to do, just build a U-shaped box from profiles and laminated chipboard and attach it to the ceiling. In this case, the end of the box will serve as a support for the ceiling, and a rail will be installed on the lower part.

In the drawing you need to indicate the size of each individual part, and do not forget that an edge must be applied to each shelf and partition, the thickness of which must be taken into account.

Advice. It is better to order edging immediately after cutting the material from the same company from which the material is purchased and sawed. In addition, it is worth knowing that visible parts are sealed PVC edge 2 mm, and the remaining parts - 0.4 mm. There is no need to cover the joining parts with an edge.

During the design process, you may encounter a problem such as curved wall surfaces.

Often this is not visible visually, but as soon as you start installing the cabinet element to the wall, the unevenness is immediately revealed.

Of course, you can, of course, disguise a gap of several centimeters PVC corner. But we advise you to check the evenness of the walls in advance using a level or rule and carry out the work of leveling the walls.

You should not file chipboard - firstly, without special tool you won’t be able to do it as evenly as possible; secondly, there will be no edge and the cut will open, into which moisture can get in and the material will begin to collapse. It will be difficult to install even a U-shaped plastic profile on a curved cut.

As for the inside, the walls can be painted or finished with a washable material, for example, non-woven wallpaper.

Assembly

Assembly should begin by installing the main walls and forming an opening around the entire perimeter using pre-prepared chipboard strips.

How to make a frame yourself?

There are two steps to complete:

  1. The frame is attached around the perimeter to the walls, floor and ceiling on dowel nails.
  2. The elements are fastened together with special corners. If you want to make it beautiful, you can use furniture or plastic corners.

    If reliability is taken as a basis, then simply buy steel corners.

Advice. Modern way fastening parts - furniture euroscrews, but for them you first need to drill holes, but this is very difficult to do by eye. In this case, you will have to buy a special drill.

As soon as the base of the cafe is assembled, they begin installing the partitions, and only then proceed to the shelves.

Shelves

Special shelf holders made of metal or plastic are used. We list the most common options for mounting shelves:

Once you have decided on the mounting option, you can begin installation. The shelves are installed according to a pre-planned plan.

Important. The shelves should be slightly smaller than the overall depth of the cabinet so that nothing interferes with the closing of the doors. As for closed drawers, it is worth leaving space for handles, that is, they should be 10 cm smaller.

Crossbar

Before starting installation, cut the rod to the required length from the workpiece.

  1. Mark its location.
  2. Install the holder on the main wall and the laminated chipboard wall.
  3. Install the crossbar into the holders.

The holders need to be installed not only with screws, but also with glue. To do this, before fastening, apply glue to the inside, apply it to the markings and screw it on.

Shoe net

If we compare the grids with shelves made of chipboard, they are much lighter and create less load on the entire structure.

In addition, mesh shelves for shoes make the design very convenient and ergonomic. The fastenings are very convenient, they several types:

  • support brackets;
  • clips;
  • pockets;
  • brackets.

When installing, shoe nets are cut in the middle, as plastic tips are installed on them. The pitch of the shoe rack should be a multiple of 25 mm. The clips are installed in increments of 245 mm.

Often, shoe nets are installed at an angle of 45 degrees for easy storage of shoes and boots.

Coupe doors

Assembling and installing doors is the most difficult stage in this design. In this case, you cannot save on fittings, otherwise the door may jam or fall out.

Manufacturing

Usually the wardrobe in the hallway consists of two doors, less often they have three doors. Each door is a leaf, which is framed on 4 sides, made of special aluminum profiles.

It is worth noting right away that the canvas may be heterogeneous, but the material must be compatible. For docking use connection profile. The door profile is designed for a material thickness of 10 mm.

It is very easy to insert a profile into such a profile, despite the fact that its thickness is only 4 mm; the missing 6 mm are simply supplemented with a silicone seal.

You need to buy a special mirror for doors, with a protective film, so that upon impact it does not shatter into small fragments.

Doors should not be wider than 1 meter because:

  • it's quite inconvenient;
  • It is very difficult to deliver material this wide without damaging it.

You can order doors in furniture store, or you can assemble it yourself. This is not difficult to do - a frame is put on the canvas and screwed together.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. It is better to start assembly with cross profiles. To do this, prepare a wooden spacer, onto which the profile is pressed using a rubber hammer.
  2. As soon as the horizontal profiles are ready, proceed to the vertical ones, they are secured with 6x35 or 5x30 mm self-tapping screws. Before you finally tighten the frame, don’t forget install rollers top and bottom.
  3. If you want to make the fasteners invisible, you should use drills of several diameters: the first hole is made with a diameter of 9 mm, under the screw head, the second 5 mm, under the leg.
  4. It is worth immediately warning that vertical and horizontal profiles are very different. Three holes are made in the vertical ones for attaching the profiles to each other and for the rollers.
  5. The rollers will move along the guides - they are installed in the same plane at the top and bottom. The upper guides provide fixation of the blade relative to the depth, and the lower rails ensure closing/opening. Often bottom rollers made of plastic with a shock-absorbing spring and a screw for height adjustment. Top rollers with rubberized surface.
  6. A door stopper is installed in the bottom rail, and closers can also be installed upward, which will smoothly close the door themselves.

Installation

To install the door, you must first install it in the far recess of the top track, and then install it in the lower corresponding channel.

The second canvas is installed using the same principle.

After the canvases are installed, you need adjust the rollers so that there is no gap between the canvas and the walls. Apply buffer tape to the handles.

We check the doors - if the movement is free and the rollers do not cling anywhere, then the work on installing the doors can be considered complete.

Conclusion

If you want to test your skills, start assembling a wardrobe in the hallway with your own hands. This furniture does not require special design skills and is quite simple to install. The main requirement will be to choose the right color of the structure so that it fits harmoniously into the general interior hallway, cut the material correctly and assemble it efficiently.

Closet - perfect solution for rooms with limited space. The doors slide apart, like on a train, which allows you to install the cabinet in small hallways and narrow corridors. Similar design They are offered in all furniture showrooms, but the standard dimensions do not always suit your room size. You can order a cabinet designed according to your measurements based on the features of your room, but the cost of one copy doubles. For those who need a cabinet larger or smaller than a standard one, there is another solution - to assemble the structure with your own hands. This is not very difficult to do if you know where to start.

Choosing a cabinet design and placement option

Placing the cabinet in a niche. Designers of residential premises are sometimes very inventive, which is why half of the typical houses have niches of unknown purpose in the hallway. It is in this niche that you can make a wardrobe. To do this, you will need to install door guides and order the doors themselves with fittings. This way you save space, time and money.

Wardrobe along the entire length of the wall. Good decision is the installation of a cabinet along the entire length of the wall. Firstly, the room is not broken up by the corners of the furniture and does not visually lose space. Secondly, such a cabinet can serve not only as a wardrobe, but also as a storage room where skates, skateboards, skis and even car tires are stored.

A sliding wardrobe can separate the hallway area from the living area in studio apartments. The wardrobe is installed across the entire width of the room, with a through sliding door in its center and compartments for clothes on the sides. Some people prefer to make all doors on two sides, which provides access to clothes from the hallway and bedroom at the same time. Very convenient option, when access to outerwear is from the hallway, and access to bed linen- from the living quarters.

Materials

The most optimal for creating a cabinet is chipboard and high or high MDF medium density. This material not very expensive and relatively dense. But when choosing chipboard be sure to pay attention to its category (must be E-1) and coating (preferably laminated on all sides). When heated, chipboard releases formaldehyde and phenol, so if your hallway has heating pipes, then don’t take risks and choose another material. One more minus chipboard Poor screw retention can be considered.

MDF is safe for humans because when heated, lignin is released, which is contained in natural wood. Is it true MDF price significantly higher, and it is a fire hazardous material.

Wood is a traditional material, however, if you are planning to make a built-in wardrobe, it is better not to use it. Concrete wall additional moisture is created, and spruce and pine, from which boards are usually made, have low moisture resistance.

It is better not to use drywall, because this material is not suitable for manufacturing load-bearing structures. It's fragile and if you don't think it through complex design bases, will not hold the wardrobe doors.

One of possible options is to preliminary design a cabinet, and then purchase ready-made components in stores or create such components to order in a workshop (it’s still cheaper than buying ready-made furniture).

What to consider when designing

When you design your own wardrobe, consider the following:

  • useless space (this is something that takes up space but is not used for its intended purpose. In this particular case, this is a sliding system. You need to put 10 cm on it and add to usable space, which must be no less than the width of the hanger. Thus, the depth of a wardrobe with a standard rod is: the width of the largest hanger + 10 cm for the convenience of placing things + 10 cm for the door mechanism);
  • if you are assembling on the floor (do not mount the cabinet in a niche or directly to the wall), then the height of the structure must be lower than the height of the ceiling in the hallway by at least 10 cm with a depth of 70 cm, and preferably even more so that you can raise and place the cabinet vertically;
  • if you plan to place the cabinet on adjustable support legs, then make room for them next to the nearest partition (no further than 30 cm from it);
  • the rigidity of the structure is ensured by transverse ribs on the rear wall of the cabinet; without them, the structure will wobble;
  • if the space does not allow you to install a cabinet with a standard longitudinal rod, lay down several sections for the transverse rod;
  • When designing drawers, add 7 mm in the gap between the fronts to the protruding width of the bottom rail. If this is not done, the drawers will not close;
  • the most important thing when designing internal sections is to take into account the width sliding design! Therefore, decide in advance on the number and width of doors, so that you can then adjust the entire system to them. If the width of the door does not match the width of the chest of drawers, the drawers will not open. Bulkheads between compartments must coincide with the boundaries of the doors;
  • the shelves have a distance of about 30 cm;
  • the compartment for hanging clothes is calculated based on the length of the longest item and another 10 cm is added to it;

Any closet, especially if there is only one in an apartment, should have sections for storing outerwear, shoes, hats, linen, bed linen, suitcases, pillows, blankets, dresses, jackets and trousers. The picture shows the optimal placement of sections in a hallway closet.

Anyone can set their teeth on edge when there is a mess in the house, as scattered things have an extremely annoying effect on household members. There is not always space to store property, so many owners solve this problem by installing a wardrobe. Convenient place its placement is in the hallway and bedroom. We suggest you learn how to make a hallway cabinet with your own hands, and to make the process of creating this piece of furniture more understandable, explanatory photos are attached to it.

Possible cabinet options

A sliding wardrobe located in the wall is widely used in homes, as it has an excellent ability to accommodate a sufficient number of things. It takes a small amount square meters and allows residents to move freely around the house. This cabinet plays a useful role in indoors, and it won’t be difficult to do it.

The most common types of sliding wardrobes can be viewed in the photo. For convenience, many owners place this structure, built into a niche, in the hallway. The main advantage of this building is the minimum cost, since the walls and bottom with a lid are already there and do not need to be built. With the help of a compartment, empty space that has not been used until now is filled.

A great way to install a closet in a hallway is to place it across the entire width of a blank wall. This is optimal solution, since a cabinet built into the wall in this way will increase the visual volume of the hallway if its doors are decorated. If the house has small dimensions, then this place can be used as a dressing room, while the size of the living space will not decrease.

Sliding wardrobes are often used in zoning one-room apartments. Such buildings are common in penthouses, since there are no interior doors. This option is the most expensive of the others.

The most common type of cabinet is a separate structure, which can be made into a corner or placed closer to the wall. Such cabinets are created with doors that open on both sides so that access to the contents is as accessible as possible. On the Internet you can find many photos of cabinets and their location in the interior.

Materials

To make a cabinet, you must first choose suitable material, on which the progress of construction as a whole depends. To choose the right material, you need to consider its characteristics. Materials used in the assembly of the sliding wardrobe:

  • Wood is a traditional material from which furniture is made. It is great for regular wardrobes, but it is not profitable to use for a compartment. This material will warp because the cabinet built into the wall absorbs more moisture than that in the room;
  • Drywall is a good finishing material that has many possibilities. Since he is finishing material, it cannot be used in the manufacture of a sliding wardrobe. This is impossible due to the fact that drywall is a structure that must be firmly attached to something, and cannot be part of a load-bearing structure;
  • Fiberboard, chipboard - this is what you need to make a cabinet. The process of making it from these materials is extremely inexpensive and simple, and does not require large expenses. These materials have the characteristics of wood, but unlike it, they are resistant to moisture penetration. Experts recommend using chipboard, medium- and high-density fiberboard.

Many companies publish catalogs with photos of all materials. Having made your choice, you can proceed directly to designing the cabinet.

Cabinet design

When drawing up a project, the division of the cabinet into zones is carried out using partitions, which are measured by the width of the doors. It is generally accepted that the main place for filling a compartment is the wardrobe area, which includes rods with hangers and shelves for clothes and shoes. The rest of the space belongs to the utility block.

Design can be done using photo samples, or you can prepare it yourself.

Approximate layout of a wardrobe

To make a cabinet, you need a number of parts:

  • one wall for the side (since the wall and floor will replace the rest);
  • internal partitions, the number of which is adjusted to the number of doors;
  • in order for the cabinet to look complete, it is necessary to make narrow strips of wood, which will give a noble look to the structure;
  • other details should arrange the shelves. The mezzanine is made for those things that are not often used. The remaining space is filled with shelves at the owner’s discretion;
  • if the tenant wants to install a suspended ceiling in the hallway after assembling the cabinet, then it is necessary to develop a plan so that it does not interfere with this. A homemade U-shaped box will help prevent such situations from occurring. It will serve as the basis for the upper door rails. The box will need to be screwed to the ceiling;
  • During the design and drawing, you will need to measure the size of all cabinet parts to order, determining in advance where the edges will be applied to them. Places that are visible are covered with a PVC edge with a layer of 2 mm, and others with a thickness of 0.4 mm. Parts that will come into contact with others do not need to be covered with PVC edges;
  • The most annoying problem that can arise is indirect walls. In this situation, you should not make hasty decisions and cut the chipboard with a jigsaw, as chips may form on the surface. At home, it is almost impossible to do this without damage, because this requires a circular saw;
  • If, after sawing the sheet, the cut area opens, then it should be closed. You can glue an overlay U-profile, as well as a melanin edge;
  • the part located on the inside can simply be painted on the walls.

For sliding systems, it is necessary to retreat 9-10 cm from the inside of the door so as not to damage the structure of the cabinet. The exception is the Versailles system, which allows for its installation close to the top rail. But in order to protect the cabinet from undesirable consequences, it is advisable to retreat 1 cm.

Cabinet assembly

You should begin assembling the cabinet by installing load-bearing walls around the perimeter, edging the opening with strips of laminated chipboards. Then you should attach the frame to the ceiling, floor and walls using dowels. The angle helps connect the parts to each other.

The optimal method for fastening parts is the use of Euroscrews, which are used in furniture assembly. But before using them, you first need to make a hole for them, which is impossible to make smoothly without any special instruments. For this purpose, there is a specially created drill for confirmation, which can be adjusted to the drilling depth.

If you are fastening to furniture bolts, then for added rigidity and greater retention it is recommended to use furniture dowels. They are screwed in with a hexagon.

Fastening the shelves

Fastening can be done in several ways. Using corners to attach shelves is quite common and not aesthetically pleasing, so it is used in exceptional cases when other methods are completely unsuitable.

By means of confirmations, the shelves are securely attached to the cabinet walls, which guarantees the transfer of various heavy loads. But Euroscrews are used exclusively in places where no one will see them, since their appearance is spoiled due to the caps.

The eccentric allows the shelves to be securely attached to the wall. But in order to attach them, you will have to work hard. In addition, the screw cap becomes noticeable from below. In the photo you can clearly see what these or other mounting options look like.

The most suitable option For fastening shelves there are shelf holders, which are accessories that provide stability to the part. When using this type of fastening, they are completely invisible on both sides.

Door assembly

The main procedure when assembling sliding wardrobes is sliding doors. When performing installation, it is not advisable to skimp on auxiliary material, since if it is of poor quality or there is not enough of it, then problems with doors sticking and falling out cannot be avoided. Laguna, Versailles and Aristo have established themselves as the most reliable and quality companies, manufacturing sliding systems. Their cost is very reasonable.

A sliding wardrobe is often equipped with two, rarely three doors, consisting of a panel framed with aluminum profiles on all sides. For a tight connection in any position, a special profile is used, which allows the frame not to be uniform (an example can be seen in the photo). According to standard measurements, thickness laminated chipboard sheet equal to 10 mm.

With help silicone seal A mirror or designer glass 4 mm thick can be inserted into such a profile. It is important to know that when using glass or mirrors for a door, you must purchase them with a special protective film, which, due to its elastic properties, does not allow fragments to fly apart during a strong impact. You can assemble the doors yourself or order them ready-made.

Installing doors into a structure

It is necessary to hammer the horizontal profiles using a hammer made of rubber. Then you should fill the vertical handles, fastened with self-tapping screws, the dimensions of which are 5 * 30 or 6 * 35 mm. The top and bottom rollers must be installed before the final tie is made. To ensure that the fasteners are not noticeable, the holes for the screws should be made of two different diameters. The first is 9 mm (inside the profile), the second is 5 mm (under the screw leg).

Profiles located vertically and horizontally have differences. The ones that are vertical should have 3 holes, which need to be drilled one at a time in the top and bottom of the assembly, as well as in the place where the lower rollers are attached. Then the profiles need to be cut to the required dimensions and screwed using self-tapping screws. A door stopper is installed in the bottom rail.

Door suspension with bottom support rail

Before installing the door, it must be inserted into the far channel of the upper door guide, and then inserted into the lower channel. The second doors need to be installed in the same way. To ensure that there are no gaps between the doors, you need to stick a buffer tape.

Making a wardrobe in the hallway with your own hands is not difficult. All it takes is desire, perseverance and ready materials. After completing the assembly, you can take a photo and show this creation to your friends.
