Step 1. The frame is assembled along the door with a minimum gap of 2-3 mm on each side. You can fasten it using nails or long self-tapping screws. You just need to make sure that the wood doesn’t crack. When adjusting the edges of the box, the joints should be trimmed with a hacksaw and the excess should be removed using a chisel

It is more difficult to assemble cheap, so-called “paper” doors. They are more tender. The gap between the frame and the doors is slightly larger, about 2-5 mm at the top and bottom, and 2-4 mm at the edges. It is better not to try to knock down the corners of the box with nails or screws. Since compressed paper will burst anyway. It is better to assemble such boxes using corners (or those used during assembly or furniture corners).

You don't have to try to assemble a box with right angles at 90 degrees. At the moment, even very expensive doors have a slight curvature.

Step 2. The next step, explaining how to install the door correctly, will be the fastening of the awnings, there are left and right. They are placed on the side in which the door should open. This point is very important, and in order not to make a mistake, you can double-check everything several times.

First, the hinges are attached to the canvas of the box. To do this, you should attach them and trace the contours with a pencil. Then a recess a couple of millimeters deep is made along this contour, so that the loop “sinks” into the wood, but does not sink. The same method is used to install hinges on the door. Then everything is fixed with self-tapping screws that come complete with hinges.

Step 3. Now let's proceed directly to the answer to the question that torments everyone who is in a state of repair: how to properly do it after assembling and fastening the hinges. The door is leveled in the opening. It is advisable to “throw” the level from all sides of the box, to be sure.

To ensure that the exposed door does not “run away” anywhere, it is advisable to drive wooden wedges along the edges and in the middle. But they should not be too thick, otherwise they will bend and the door will not close. But wedges that are too small will not work either; they should not fall out.

So, the wedges are hammered in, the door is installed in place. Now you should secure it with anchors. First, holes are made with a drill or hammer drill through the box into the wall. Then an anchor is screwed into them, it secures the box to the wall. They are screwed in 2-3 pieces on each side. Commit ends

Before foaming, you need to properly “open” the door frame. For example, place loose cardboard on all sides and close the doors tightly. Now you can fill the voids with foam. But different foams have different degrees of swelling, so it is better to fill the openings halfway.

It is important not only to choose a way to properly install an interior door, but also to give it the allotted time for final fastening. This time will be 6-12 hours, during which you do not need to open the doors. This is exactly how you need to let the foam set and then you can carefully stationery knife cut off the excess.

Now it’s clear how to properly install an interior door. True, the work is not finished yet, since the process of cashing it out lies ahead (that is, you need to install platbands), possibly varnishing (depending on the type of door). But that's a completely different story.

Installing interior doors is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. If the master has at least a little experience working with doors, then this is a big plus. The only thing that is better to entrust to a specialist is the insertion of fittings. Incorrectly installed fittings can ruin the entire result of the work.

Stages

Installation interior doors occurs in several stages:

  1. Box installation.
  2. Installation of canvas.
  3. Installation of additional elements.

Preliminary stage

The technology for installing interior doors is quite simple. However, before starting work, there is one important step that cannot be skipped. This is the door selection stage.

The final result largely depends on how responsibly you approach your choice.

  1. The first thing to do is go around the shops. You shouldn't take the first option you come across. If we are talking about online stores, then you need to carefully check the characteristics of the designs.
  2. The door leaf should fit the frame perfectly in size. All characteristics of the door must be known in advance. You can't do this without measurements.
  3. Sometimes very cheap options appear in stores. After purchase, the owner may discover that the box or accessories are not included. You have to spend time and select the remaining parts. It's not always possible to do it right. So don't look at the ones that are too cheap door designs. As a last resort, you must first clarify the presence of certain parts in the kit.

Materials and tools

Materials and tools for installation must be prepared in advance. Tools you will need:

  • wood hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • level.

Materials you need to purchase:

  • polyurethane foam (cylinder);
  • self-tapping screws;
  • wedges

Assembly and installation of the box

Once the door has been purchased, you can get to work. At the first stage, the box is assembled.

Assembling the box is a simple process. The only thing you need to remember is that it is necessary to trim off the frame frames in order to establish a gap between the door leaf and the floor. For ordinary apartments, the gap is set to about 10 mm.

After the gap is established, the racks are connected using self-tapping screws. After assembly, the stage of installing the box into the opening begins.

It is advisable that the opening be pre-treated. To do this, check the verticality of the walls, as well as the height and width of the opening.

The box is installed using a level and wedges. The level checks the position of the structure in the opening. The procedure is as follows:

  1. The box is fixed in the opening with wedges at the top and bottom.
  2. First, the door must be fixed with wedges from below, before checking the position of the structure in two dimensions with a level.
  3. The average gap between the frame and the opening on all sides should be about 10 mm.

The door leaf is hung on hinges. At this time, the box is secured only with spacers and wedges.

You should not foam the door frame before hanging the door leaf. The point is that you still need to make sure that the door in this position will not open on its own.

After the canvas is hung, you can foam the gap between the box and the opening.

It is necessary to ensure that the foam does not get on the surface of the door. The composition of the polyurethane foam can easily damage the surface, so you should work carefully.

Now you need to install the additional element.

  1. The additional strip is measured to fit the distance from the edge of the box to the edge of the wall.
  2. Using a hacksaw, it is cut along the edge.
  3. The additional element is mounted in the groove and foamed. Foaming is done at several points.

Platbands

After the additional element is installed, you need to wait for the foam to dry. When working with polyurethane foam, you must remember about its expansion property. The substance should always be applied in measured doses.

The next stage after installing the additional strip is the platbands.

  1. To install platbands, you need to determine their size.
  2. After this, the platbands are sawed off using a hacksaw.
  3. Holes for nails are drilled.
  4. The casing is fixed.

If the platband has a “beak”, then it is attached to liquid nails. There is no need to file it down.

Types of interior doors

Today in stores you can find doors made of natural wood, glass, plastic, metal and composites. Mixed designs are also found.

Usually the choice is made taking into account the design of the room and this the right approach. However, it is necessary to consider all the main varieties of these designs in order to know their advantages and weak spots, as well as the subtleties of care.

  1. Paneled from hard wood. Such designs are very durable and prestigious. Moreover, they are very expensive. The most common paneled doors are made of oak and walnut. Designs are made either using glue or without it. Last type- the most durable. Caring for such a door is necessary, as with any natural surfaces. The door must be protected from moisture and high temperatures. It is recommended to wipe them with a napkin. The use of abrasives is prohibited.
  2. Paneled from soft wood. Ideal for country houses and cottages. IN ordinary apartments These doors don't look very appropriate. They are more suitable for country style. Caring for such structures is the same as for hardwood doors.
  3. Paneled combined doors. These structures are made of veneer. They contain little valuable wood. Therefore, such doors are quite inexpensive. Their service life, however, is shorter than that of solid wood structures. However, they can last about 50 years, which is also very good. No special care is required for veneer doors; this is their advantage.
  4. Panel structures. The advantage of panel doors is that they are inexpensive and do not require special care, are easily replaceable, have a presentable appearance. In addition, they are well decorated and fit into any interior. About 85–90% of all doors are panel doors. This design can be glazed, decorated natural veneer or artificial materials. Panel doors - best option for most apartments and offices.

Scheme

At first glance, there is nothing complicated about installing doors: all you have to do is install the door block in the opening, blow it with foam, install the locks, nail the platbands, and that’s the end of it. This is what the installation process looks like general outline, let's look at it in more detail to determine a rational sequence of actions.

To install an interior door you will need:

Tools:

  • hammer;
  • plumb line;
  • roulette;
  • drill;
  • feather drill for wood Ø 24 mm;
  • miter saw or miter box and hacksaw;
  • level;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • router or chisel.

Materials:

  • wooden wedges;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • handle, door latch, hinges;
  • door, frame, trim, extensions.

Preparatory work

Preparation doorway for installation depends on the initial state of the room. In a new building, install doors after all “dirty” construction and finishing works: the ceiling and floor must be ready, the walls must be plastered. You can even hang wallpaper: installing doors is a clean job, if everything is done according to the rules, there will be no dirt. When replacing door block you need to dismantle the old door frame, clean the surface of crumbling plaster and repair the chipped areas.

Door frame assembly

Part Dimensions door frame determined based on the dimensions of the door leaf. When assembled, the gaps from the door leaf to the frame should be 2 mm on the sides and top and about 4 mm at the bottom. In a U-shaped door frame (without a threshold), the side posts should be 1-1.5 cm longer than the height of the door leaf. Cut off the parts the right size and assemble the box, connecting them with self-tapping screws. For greater strength, the joints of the boxes can be glued.

Insertion of hinges

Place the door frame on the floor, place it in door leaf. Using strips of cardboard, set the gaps indicated above, mark with a pencil the places where the hinges are attached to the frame and door leaf. The edge of the hinge should be at a distance of 20 cm from the edge of the door leaf. If the doors are heavy, you can install a third hinge. The main part of the load falls on the top hinge, so it is advisable to install the third hinge not in the center, but closer to the top.

Attach door hinge to the installation site and outline around the perimeter sharp knife, cutting through the wood to a depth of the thickness of the hinge plate. Using a sharp beveled chisel or a hand-held electric router, remove a layer of wood so that a seat exactly to the plate size. Install the loop; it should fit snugly in the recess and not protrude beyond the edges. Screw the screws into the holes. Install all hinge halves in this manner.

Hang the door leaf on the hinges and check the gaps between the door leaf and the frame. Next, install the door block vertically and check the door opening; the leaf should open freely and not spring back when closing.

Door block installation

Remove the door leaf from the hinges. Place the door frame in the center of the opening and secure its location with wedges. Check the location of the box relative to the edge of the walls - they should be in the same plane. The side of the box with the hinges is attached first. Align the stand vertically using a plumb line or level. Drive the wedges just above where the box post meets the top rail, and secure the entire box by installing the wedges at the corners. Hang the door leaf on the hinges and, tapping the frame riser with a rubber hammer, adjust the position of the door so that the door closes freely and, when closing, is adjacent to the ledge with its entire plane.

Next, close the door, insert strips of cardboard folded several times into the gap between the door leaf and the frame. This is done in order to prevent the box from being deformed by the polyurethane foam, which expands when it hardens. Fill the space between the door frame and the wall with polyurethane foam, and after it has completely dried, cut off the excess with a knife.

Platband fastening

To join the trim strips, you need to cut them at 45°. It is most convenient to work electric miter saw If such a tool is not available, use a miter box and a hacksaw. The first to be cut and attached vertical racks platband, then the upper horizontal strip.

Installation of interior doors with additional strips

Additional strips allow you to beautifully design a doorway in a situation where the width of the frame is less than the thickness of the walls of the doorway. Extensions on the door frame can be installed in a groove or in a quarter. In the first case, a groove is made in the box, on the side opposite to the door opening, according to the thickness of the panel. The planks are attached with glue after installing the box. The space created between the extension and the wall is filled with polyurethane foam. The trims are nailed to the frame after the foam has dried and the excess has been trimmed. In the case when the extensions are installed in a quarter, the planks are attached to the frame before installation in the doorway with self-tapping screws from the outside.

Insertion of latches and handles

Decide on the height of the handle from the floor, usually 95-100 cm. When choosing a distance, be guided by the convenience and design features of the door leaf.

Let's look at a door latch mortise with split handles. Mark the places for drilling the hole for the handle square on the door leaf pillar and for the latch itself in the center on end side doors. The distance from the edge of the canvas to the center of the square hole is determined based on the measurements of the latch; for most latches it is 45 mm.

Using a drill and feather drill for wood Ø 24 mm, make a square hole. To ensure neat edges, stop drilling as soon as the tip of the drill appears on the opposite side. Continue working, but with reverse side. Then drill a hole for the latch.

Insert the latch into the end hole and secure it temporarily with self-tapping screws for convenience. Cut through the wood around the perimeter to the depth of the latch plate thickness. Unscrew the screws, remove the latch and remove the wood under the seat using a chisel. Insert the latch into place, check the alignment of the hole for the square and secure with self-tapping screws.

Now let's move on to the handles - remove them from decorative overlays, insert a square into one of the handles, secure it with an internal screw using a hexagon, which usually comes with the handles. Reinstall the handle by inserting the square into the latch, then screw it to the door with self-tapping screws. Install the opposite handle and also secure it with self-tapping screws, do not forget to tighten the internal screw that secures the square. Check the handle for functionality, after which you can screw on the decorative trims.

The next step is to install the counter strip on the box riser. In order to determine the place where the latch tongue will rest, apply a little paint to it (it is better to use water-soluble paint). In the marked place, make a recess under the tongue using a chisel and hammer.

Screw the counter strip with self-tapping screws, outline the perimeter with a knife, remove the strip and select wood for the seat. Then install the counter plate, screw in the screws, close the door and check the operation of the latch.

Every master is faced with the problem of how and what to attach the assembled doors to. To install a finished door block, it is possible to use in various ways installations. Knowing these installation options, you can easily choose the one that suits you. You will need a small set of tools: a drill, a hammer drill, a level, a screwdriver and a hammer. Also, to directly secure the box in the opening, fasteners and polyurethane foam are needed. Depending on where you need to attach the door block, you may need screws, dowels, and anchors.

The main stages of installing a door block

At the very beginning, the old door frame is dismantled. This can be done using a nail puller (crowbar), having previously made cuts on both sides of each vertical bar, in order to then press this structure away from the opening. If, when installing the old box, you used anchor bolts, nails that are not possible to unscrew can be cut down using a grinder.

Before installing the frame of interior doors, it is necessary to check the verticals of the walls and take into account differences in the level of the walls and floor. The door frame must be positioned so that if there are any unevenness, the frame does not go deeper into the opening. This is necessary for the door trim to fit. In order to correctly position the door frame, you should use a building level and take into account all the errors in the opening.

First, the installations are rigidly fixed in the opening to achieve the initial level of rigidity using wedges. After completing the fixing work, it is worth re-checking the correct positioning with a level so that the frame is level with the door.

Working with polyurethane foam

It is important to know that the foam that is intended for the gun is much better and more convenient to use due to the fact that it is more dosed and has a small expansion coefficient; it hardens much faster. Foam, which is supplied in large quantities with a straw, will expand longer. Before starting work, it is better to close the door leaf masking tape and film, because foam is difficult to wash. It is important to know that you need to start foaming by fixing individual small areas. After 30 minutes you can already go through the entire perimeter. All cracks are filled with foam (50% of the total volume). Do not fill with a large amount of foam, because during expansion the foam will squeeze the box inward. We recommend using professional foams.

Since wood contracts and expands precisely because high humidity the consequence of expansion is deformation of the door block. The door will simply stop closing for this reason.

Video on possible door installation methods

There are several ways to fasten a door frame in an opening, each of which involves the use special type fastenings Various options fastenings provide a certain level of reliability and strength of the fixed structure. We hope there are video stories on options for installing boxes wooden doors will help you.

Hidden method of installing doors on foam

The door frame is fixed in the opening using wooden wedges for fixation, and correct location checked by construction level. Foaming with polyurethane foam should be done little by little, in sections and with breaks, to avoid deformation. The door frame is held in place almost thanks to foam alone.

To maintain the gap between the frame and the door itself, small 3 mm spacers are used, which are inserted between the door and the frame. They can only be removed when the foam dries. Usually the door is left overnight.

This method is convenient if you do not need to go into the room, it is fast and does not require special effort. It is important not to overdo it with foam so that you can open the door.

Installing doors using clamps or spacers

The installation principle is that we use spacers inside to temporarily fasten the door block in the opening. It can be as ordinary wooden rivers, and special adjustable devices.

Both of these methods are very good for light and small doors.

Fastening doors using Knauf hangers

For these purposes, direct suspensions from the Knauf company, which are used in suspended ceilings, are ideally suited.

  • The plates must first be screwed to the box.
  • Insert the door into the opening.
  • Adjust the level.
  • We mark the places for the recess in the wall.
  • We make a sample for the plate.

After this, we set it according to the level and fix the plates. To adjust, we use wedging with wooden blocks.

It is also necessary to take into account that with this method of installing the box on the outer part of the wall, the location of the recess will definitely need to be hidden under a layer of plaster. That is why this method is only good if there is no finishing.

New mounting options

This video will show you how to secure a door frame in an opening. This type of fastening involves installing an interior door frame by placing the frame on the screwed heads of the screws that are located at the ends of the opening. This happens with the help of metal plates with a hole, which are screwed with outside boxes.

To achieve final fixation of the box in the doorway, use usual means adjustments.

With this method, the door block pillars move freely in the opening.

The obvious advantage of this method is the full possibility of adjustment and at the same time rigid fixation while maintaining the original appearance of the box and exterior finishing walls.

Concealed installation, fastening under hinges

As a rule, for the rigidity of the structure, screws or anchors are used, which are hidden under the hinges. To do this, make a hole between the screws in the hinge and attach it to the wall through it. On the side of the lock, under the decorative plate, another fastener is attached. As a result, we get 3 fixation points.

After direct fastening, we place a spacer at the bottom of the doors, since the bottom is not secured, and fill all the gaps with foam.

A significant advantage of this method is relative rigidity and preservation of appearance.

Through fastening with anchors or screws

This is the most common standard option installation of interior doors. For this fastening option, holes for anchors are first drilled in in the right places racks, then fasten the door in the opening.

Preparation

  • Marking 4 anchors on each side.
  • Drilling with a 14 mm pen to a depth of 10 mm (space for the plug).
  • Drilling through hole 10 mm feather (space for fixing with an anchor).

After which the box is exposed and the concrete is drilled with a 10 mm drill for the anchor. When the box is supported by anchors, it holds securely and does not require any spacers. Mounting points can be hidden by installing decorative plugs desired color, size (14 mm). Instead of anchors, you can use screws; this will reduce the diameter of the plug. The use of this option is the most reliable for heavy doors. Using it you can straighten (tension) a crooked rail. The doors can be used almost immediately. It is possible to adjust the gap. The downside is the presence of plugs.

Tricks for installing door panels

Conclusion

There are many options for installing interior door frames, but you should choose the one that is the easiest, most convenient and reliable, or the fastest. The choice can be made using any door installation method, but these methods may be affected by the opening in which the installation is taking place, taking into account the intensity and other factors.

Interior doors sooner or later become unusable and have to be replaced. This procedure is not too complicated, so it is not necessary to use the services of hired workers. Anyone who has even the slightest idea about a saw, screws and a level can handle it on their own. In this article you will learn how to install an interior door with your own hands.

Types of interior doors

The construction market offers a huge number of interior doors that are made from various materials. The most common are: fiberboard, MDF and natural wood. I would like to consider the advantages and disadvantages of doors made of such materials in more detail.

Fiberboard doors

The frame of such a door is made of wood, and the casing is made of fiberboard sheets.

The advantages include:

  • low price;
  • the lightness of the material, which allows you to take the door home from the store without any problems;
  • ease of installation.

Such advantages increase the popularity of these doors among the population. Construction stores have quite a lot big choice fiberboard doors, as they are in greatest demand.

Among the disadvantages it should be noted:

  • Fiberboard material is not strong enough, so doors can quickly become unusable;
  • Poor resistance to moisture, therefore not suitable for installation in bathrooms.

MDF doors

Doors made from MDF material, is the most acceptable for the population and corresponds to price and quality. Compared to fiberboard, such doors have certain advantages, namely:

  • high resistance to moisture;
  • high level of sound insulation;
  • high strength of the material.

Among the shortcomings, we can only note more high cost, compared to fiberboard doors. At the same time, the quality more than justifies the means.

Natural wood

Such interior doors have always been and are held in high esteem. The material is quite durable to use. The cost of the door will directly depend on the type of wood from which it is made. Classic interior and the author's design is perfectly complemented with the help of such doors.

Step-by-step installation instructions

For example, how to install an interior door step by step, we will take doors made of fiberboard.

Step 1

Before starting work, prepare necessary tools And Consumables such as: saw, screwdriver, electric drill, tape measure, polyurethane foam, dowels, level, wood screws, handle, drills and drills of the required diameter.

Step 2

Draw up a diagram for installing the door frame in the opening. It is worth paying special attention to the threshold. If you cannot hide it in the floor, then it is better to choose a box without it, that is, in the shape of the letter P. Such a box does not have a crossbar at the bottom, which will ensure walking without any obstacles.

Step 3

Installation of the box. Before attaching the door frame, make sure there are hinges. The door must have a cutout for a handle and a lock. Assemble all the parts of the box together and fit them into the opening. For convenience, place all the parts on the floor as they will be installed in the opening.

Step 4

Installing the door frame in the opening. At this stage, the assembled door frame is installed in the opening and leveled.

Step 5

Fitting the door on the hinges. This process is quite simple. Doors are hung on hinges manually; it is better to ask someone to help you at this point.

Step 6

Foaming the gap between the wall and the box.

Step 7

Finishing doorways. The type of finishing of such an opening is selected taking into account the type of the door frame itself and the width of the opening.

In order to install interior doors without hiring hired workers, it is necessary to consider some steps in more detail in order to avoid unpleasant consequences in the future.

Box assembly

The most painstaking and crucial moment in assembling an interior door is installing the frame. But before you install it, you need to assemble it correctly. At this stage, the proverb about measuring 7 times is extremely relevant.

So, to assemble a U-shaped box, you need:

  1. A false post or beam.
  2. Looped timber.
  3. Ceiling strip.

To carry out the assembly as accurately as possible, you need to measure the size of the opening and the canvas itself, down to every millimeter. Next, you should calculate the dimensions of the racks and lintel, taking into account the size of the gaps. After this, saw off the individual bars and connect them into a single whole. It is worth noting that the thickness of the timber should not be less than the thickness of the canvas. When taking measurements, do not change the tape measure, use only one. After measuring the canvas on the right side, try it on the left as well, do not expect an exact match. All deviations will be taken into account in further work.

Calculation of interior door installation

When taking measurements, it is worth considering the following:

  • WITH external parties All timber (ceiling, hinge and recessed) that are in contact with the opening must be left with a gap of 1 cm wide for the mounting foam.
  • WITH inside There should also be a gap in the entire beam, but a little less, 0.3 cm. If the box has a threshold, then such a gap is necessary around the entire perimeter.
  • The bottom plane of the door frame and the floor should have a gap between them. On average, its height should be 1 cm. For linoleum, 0.8 cm is enough, and for fleecy coverings, 1.5 cm.

If the opening is not sufficient in size, it should be enlarged and, conversely, reduced if it is too large.

Insertion of hinges

Usually two hinges are enough for interior doors, but sometimes three may be needed. The hinges are installed at a distance of 250 mm from the edge of the fabric. If both the canvas and the box are made of wood, then the place for the hinges must be chosen so that there are no knots there. Initially, the loops are attached only to the canvas.

The order of inserting loops looks like this:

  1. We select the places necessary for the loops and outline them using a knife blade.
  2. You can work with a router or a chisel; in this case, the material must be selected to match the thickness of the loop.
  3. We prepare a recess and install a loop in it, the plane of which should be flush with the canvas.
  4. The loop that is already inserted into the hole must be secured with self-tapping screws.

When you have installed the hinges in the door leaf, it is placed in the door frame and the necessary gaps are set.

On the hinge side the gaps should be 5 mm, on the opposite side and at the top 3 mm.

When the gaps are set, they are fixed with wedges. It is also necessary to set the canvas itself, exactly horizontally and vertically.

When everything is set up, you should note the location of the mating parts. Sometimes it’s more convenient to remove installed loop and then put it back in place. According to the markings, you need to make a excavation. The depth should be such that the surface of the door frame coincides with the hinge.

Installation of accessories

Installation of interior doors cannot be done without installing fittings. According to all safety regulations, interior doors should always open outward. The installation of handles, like hinges, begins with markings, which should be done extremely carefully. First, mark the level of its height. Usually it is 90 cm. On one side, use a pencil to draw a line, 60 mm from the edge. Using a ruler, draw a line at the end and make a similar marking on the other side of the door. All marks must be pierced with an awl.

Using a drill, drill a hole half the thickness of the blade. Do the same on the other side of the door. At the end of the canvas you need to make a hole using a feather drill. Make sure that all measurements match and do not allow deviations of even 1 mm. Take a chisel and lightly tap to make a deep mortise for the latch. Screw it on with screws. Now all that remains is to insert 2 parts of the product. Place the parts on both sides and try to get the guides into the holes, then tighten everything with bolts.

Finally, you will install the metal plate on the end of the door frame. Cut out the notches for the plate. Make sure that the frame fits snugly against the end and secure the frame with screws.

Installation of the box

How to install the box correctly? This process requires you to be extremely careful and patient. It is better if someone helps you, then the measurements and installation will be much more accurate.

Installing a door frame in an opening includes the following:

  • In advance assembled door it is necessary to carefully lift it, preferably with an assistant, and install it in the opening.
  • In order to leave the necessary gaps between the wall and the frame, you need to make wedges from the remaining material.
  • Next, screw in the screws.
  • We clearly align the base in all directions. There should be no distortions or discrepancies in the gaps. But if there are any, they can be leveled by loosening or tightening the screws.
  • We hang the door leaf on the hinges and check.
  • Where the polyurethane foam will be poured along the box, we seal the canvas with construction tape. Stick cardboard into the gap and close the door.

As you can see, the process is not that complicated, however, it requires accurate measurements and compliance in all sizes.

Foaming

This stage is quite important. Filling the gaps between the frame and the wall with foam should be done after installing the door. Do not forget that as the polyurethane foam dries, it increases in volume. If you suddenly go too far with the amount of it, it may well tear out the screws and even bend the frame, after which you will not be able to close the door. If this happens, the door installation will need to start again. During foaming, it is important to fill the gaps between the wall and the box with something.

Application construction foam for gaps is not hard work. The vertical seam must be filled from below. Be extremely careful with the amount of foam you use.

Only a third of the opening needs to be filled. In addition to deforming the door, foam can come out and ruin appearance canvases.

The foam dries within a day at a temperature of 20 degrees.

Finishing of openings

Once the door installation is complete, the openings require finishing to bring the overall appearance of the space into order. The type of finish should be selected based on the width of the opening and door frame.

With a thin wall, when its width is equal to the width of the door frame, you can use platbands for finishing. This is usually how bathroom doors are decorated. This option is the simplest and most common. A set of platbands is attached to all sides of the box and covers with construction foam. If the platbands are made of wood, then they must first be attached with screws and only then painted. If the trims are laminated, then they must be secured using nails without heads or using screws with plugs.

If the doorways are wide, then they can be finished using the same platbands or additional trim, which can be cut to the width you need. This plank is attached to the wall using construction silicone. The plank and platbands may have different colour with a door. IN Lately It is quite important to choose contrasting solutions.

If the door frame is made of wood, then it can be finished using slope plaster. Cement-sand plaster will ideally highlight the natural texture of your doors. But this method is not entirely suitable for finishing fiberboard boxes. This is due to their incompatibility with high humidity which includes plastering work.

Thus, we can say that installing interior doors with your own hands will not take you as much time as it would seem at first glance. Detailed step-by-step instruction will help you avoid the most common installation mistakes. Correctly taken measurements will guarantee a successful door installation. In addition to your own efforts, do not forget to choose quality materials during the work carried out, so that your efforts do not become a waste of time due to bad choice construction foam or self-tapping screws.
