How to isolate yourself from your neighbors in your dacha - 50 photo ideas

Of course, the most reasonable solution would be to build a fence. But in some cases, for example, when it is a partnership, SNT, blind fences may be prohibited by the charter.

Or make a blank wooden section, and keep the rest of the space open.

If you have a private yard, then you have the right to make a private fence without any problems.

It will be beautiful in any case, be it wood or metal profile.

Private living plants, such as thuja, look very beautiful. If you grow them, it will take a long time, but you can always buy quite a few large plants.

At the same time, the fence can be made of mesh, but you have the right to plant anything on your site, and the height can always be adjusted.

According to the law, the fence cannot be more than two meters, but we don’t need it any higher. This height is quite enough for privacy.

The hedge is made of conifers, and the fence is made of metal lattice.

Some deciduous climbing plants they also give good protection from prying eyes.

By arranging the conifers in a checkerboard pattern, you can create the depth of your hedge.

You can also decorate the wall of your house with cute wooden inclusions.

Using this fence as an example, you can dream up and develop the theme further - by hanging decorative elements you will get both privacy and originality.

Conifers help to isolate yourself from neighbors even if your fence is made of chain-link mesh.

You can also fence off a private space with a mobile trellis with a box for climbing plants.

By planting large plants in the view of neighbors' windows, you can protect yourself from gaze. Tree between the gazebo and neighbor's window will allow you to relax with a sense of privacy; no one will spy on you from the window.

Deciduous trees have one advantage over conifers - they grow faster.

The sound of a waterfall will help drown out your conversation.

The hedge can be planted on a raised bed, thereby accelerating growth within sight.

And of course, let's not forget about climbing plants, such as grapes and hops.

Even tall grasses can reliably hide you from the eyes of your neighbors.

If you are determined to isolate yourself quickly and legally in one season, then plant cereal plants, such as thistle and reeds.

Acacia grows well and quickly; by the way, it can be shaped by pruning.

Even decorative wattle fence will be in place.

More ideas and examples of privacy in a summer cottage

By fencing yourself off from your neighbors, you are not building a wall between your relationships, but simply providing yourself with the opportunity to have some privacy. And this important condition a full-fledged dacha holiday, because we are just going to the dacha for the opportunity to relax and retire.

I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT WE IN SNT HAVE A PHENOMENON THAT HAS TAKEN AN EPIDEMIC CHARACTER. WE ARE talking about solid metal fences made of corrugated sheets, which displace the usual picket fence and chain link. THESE MISANTHROPIC STRUCTURES NOT ONLY DISTURB THE LANDSCAPE, BUT ALSO HIDE THE FRONT GARDENS FROM VIEW...

How was it before in old dacha bridges and village settlements? Life passed in full view of the neighbors, everyone communicated with each other, shared news and bowed when they met. Behind unassuming fences from wooden picket fence the inevitable golden balls were blooming. Now, hiding behind high iron fences, the people are quietly sitting in their area, motivating their behavior by the fact that “no one can see” them.

It is sad to see how lovely rural front gardens are hidden behind high fences and gradually disappear. My attempt to conduct a photo shoot in a neighboring regional center to capture the “fading nature” ended in a complete fiasco: where asters and dahlias bloomed just a few years ago, my gaze was stuck on a blank fence.

I want to warn lovers of a secluded existence: a metal fence in a small area has a lot of negative aspects. For example, behind a solid fence, any intruder who quietly sneaks into your garden is free to do whatever he wants: nothing can be seen. And even the most vigilant neighbors will not be able to tell you where to go.

In addition, in a small area with such a monumental fence, the natural system ventilation, so in summer it is several degrees hotter and in winter, correspondingly, colder. For this reason, all of our neighbor’s phlox and clematis froze in the first year after installing the new fence. And you don’t even have to think about planting something next to the fence in order to hide its unsightly underside: few plants can withstand being next to a “hot frying pan.” However, it will also be impossible to grow anything in the deep shadow of a metal stack.

With the installation of such an industrial fence, as if in an industrial zone, of course, there is no need to maintain front gardens: after all, no one sees them anyway! Some gardeners, taking advantage of this, take out compost heaps(!), without caring at all about aesthetics. The explanation for this is given as follows: “so that the place does not disappear.”

Some summer residents, having acquired a newfangled fence, are still nostalgic for the old days and in some places with outside lilac bushes are planted in the area or annuals are sown in order to at least slightly cover up the soulless essence of the metal fence.

Bladderwort

So maybe we can come up with something more suitable to isolate ourselves from the busy world? For example, plant a hedge. There are plenty of options to suit different tastes and budgets. Most An economical option is a hedge made from viburnum leaf ( Physocarpus opulifolius). This unpretentious decorative-leaved shrub grows quickly, reaching a height of three meters in three years, is pruned (for lovers of a formal style), is drought-resistant and does not get sick. There are several varieties with leaves different colors. For example, "Diabolo" is a very spectacular style variety), drought-resistant and disease-free. There are several varieties with leaves of different colors. For example, "Diabolo" is a very showy variety with dark purple leaves. It blooms with pinkish inflorescences, which then turn into bright red clusters of fruits resembling small tulips.

Because the dark bushes are in large quantities look gloomy, it is good to dilute them with other varieties, for example the yellow-leaved "Aureus" ("Luteus").

This means that both purple and yellow leaves even with a slight darkening, they change color to normal green. They need open sun. Therefore, if you wish to cover up the unsightly insides metal fence, in its deep shadow this is unlikely to happen.

Derain

Spectacular hedges are made from white wood (Cornusalba), of which there are also many varieties. For example, "Elegantissima" with white-green leaves forms a very elegant hedge.

But! This hedge needs regular and fairly strong pruning, which will give it a neat appearance, since all the trees haphazardly spread their branches in all directions. But the haircut definitely suits them - the hedge gets thicker every time. In addition, pruning stimulates the growth of bright young shoots that brighten the garden in winter.

ECONOMICAL OPTION FOR HEDGES

At all cheap option– plant an ordinary species of bladderwort with green leaves, especially since it takes cuttings well. However, the rest are also taken from cuttings and sown throughout the area, so there will be no shortage of planting material - you will also have to distribute them to neighbors, like kittens.

Barberries

If you are concerned about the safety of your site, plant thorny bushes, such as barberries, on its borders. There are a great variety of varieties; when purchasing, you just need to inquire about the height of the bush in its adult form. Ottawa barberry (Berberis x ottawiensis) "Superba", which grows up to 3.5 m in height, is good for these purposes. The foliage is purple-violet, turns crimson in autumn, blooms with earrings of yellow flowers with a rather unpleasant smell for humans, but attracts insects.

Hawthorn

Traditionally, hawthorn is used for hedges. All its types are quite unpretentious, resistant to freezing, and durable. The edible fruits are useful for cardiovascular diseases and can be used to make a tincture. Huge thorns make the hawthorn barrier insurmountable. In spring, the hedge stands as if surrounded by lace: it blooms so profusely! It is no less decorative in the fall, covered with scarlet delicious fruits. It is also regularly formed, and when the “legs” are exposed, the bushes are planted on a stump. This procedure rejuvenates the hawthorn for another ten years. The only drawback is that it will take at least 10 years to form a full-fledged hedge. Therefore, you need to be patient.

Roses

An option that does not require large labor costs for care is hedge from park roses. The only condition is that the plants must be rooted, capable of producing shoots that replace old shoots. It is necessary to remove dried branches from time to time and add compost or aged manure every few years in the spring. That's all care. Important point- this hedge cannot be cut or trimmed, otherwise it will not bloom. And roses will eventually form a wide spreading tree of fragrant bushes up to 2 m high, which will bloom from June until frost.

The prickly rose (Rosa spinosissima) and modern hybrids of the river are good for hedges. wrinkled (R. rugosa). These are fairly winter-hardy species that do not require shelter. In the German nursery Kordes relatively recently in 2007) they bred a whole series of hybrids based on the river. wrinkled under the general speaking name Roadrunner (translated as “running along the road”), since these roses can grow in the most unfavorable conditions along highways. They are absolutely winter-hardy and also do not need shelter. All of them (Pink Roadrunner, Purple Roadrunner, White Roadrunner, Romantic Roadrunner) are distinguished by excellent health and high bush density, although its height is no more than 1 m. Also, these roses are unusually fragrant, which makes them welcome guests in the garden.

For hedges, you can also use old, proven varieties of park roses - “Maiden’s Blush”, Koniginvon Danemark”, “Rose de Resent”. You can also choose park winter-hardy roses of Canadian selection.

Grape

A wall made of virgin grapes, the leaves of which turn crimson in autumn in autumn, perfectly protects from noise and dust, creating a stunning but beautiful picture. There is only one condition - the fence along which the vine will climb must be very strong.

The most presentable option would be a thuja hedge. For these purposes, as a rule, columnar varieties of western thuja are chosen (Thuja occidentalism "Smaragd" with bright green needles, "Columna" dark green or "Brabant" with golden tips of branches. All of them grow up to 5-7 m tall, unpretentious, hardy. To form a dense fence, starting from the third year after planting, thujas are cut, giving them the required form. You just need to understand that such a fence is very obliging.

It doesn't fit in with the typical wooden house on six acres, a greenhouse and a vegetable garden. An estate with an impeccable lawn, mixborders, large area paving and a representative stone house. Otherwise, the hedge will look ridiculous.

Such a barrier from the outside world practically does not require maintenance: thujas do not burn from spring sun, do not drop leaves, keep their shape. While the plants are young, they need to be tied with ropes for the winter so that the snow does not deform the branches.

Spruce

A hollow, economical, kind of folk alternative to an expensive and pretentious thuja hedge can be a dense planting in a row of Norway spruce (Picea abies), brought from a neighboring forest. With regular trimming of growth by 1/3, the trees will eventually turn into dense pillows, protecting the area not only from northern winds, but also from the curiosity of idle neighbors, which is often useful.

In “their” way

When planting a hedge, the idea of a front garden will, of course, have to be abandoned. But this, as it turns out, is not surprising, because we are in the mainstream, a global trend that is now observed all over the world. Even with its own national characteristics.

Even the British, a nation with a million front gardens across the country, where literally every house
has a lovingly landscaped tiny front yard, negative trends have emerged. They have their own problem. Until recently, the beauty and well-groomed nature of the surrounding area was given special meaning. Here it was customary to arrange your small garden in such a way that a random passer-by would stop walking and admire it. At the same time, it was necessary to do something special to distinguish it from thousands of other similar ones.

No one puts up fences there like ours, and sometimes there is no gate. Just a hint of boundaries. low brickwork, complemented by an evergreen hedge. A limited set of tools is used, everything is laconic and as expressive as possible. An indispensable hydrangea bush under the living room bay window, a rose climbing up a wall, ceramic containers with bulbs or annuals, stylish color scheme, as a rule, designed in monochrome tones.

However, in Lately colorful gardens gradually began to turn into a dull gray space. The lawn and flower beds are sacrificed to the next purchased car, for which a parking space is provided. This phenomenon has already assumed such proportions that the Royal Horticultural Society of Great Britain began to sound the alarm. The motto of the Hampton Court Flower Show in 2015 even became the slogan: “Let's make gray Britain green!”

When I'm sitting on a sun lounger in the country, I don't want the neighbors to see my swimsuit or discuss how much time I spend idle on my property. I don't want to see my neighbor in pajamas or swimming trunks.

Many summer residents erect high fences. But on small areas fences often do more harm than good.

One day my husband and I got into the car and drove around our region. We didn’t go to elite villages, no, we went to ordinary summer residents, if we could talk to the owners of the plot we liked, and we talked. And as a result, they began to create comfort in their area at will, taking into account the advice of those with whom they managed to talk.

We started with the lawn. Today you can buy a lawn not just for summer cottage or country house, but even choose a lawn for a playground or other recreation areas.

1. Selection of plants. You need to use reference books and websites to find out whether the plant you want to plant is suitable for your climate, whether it needs full sun, or whether it can.

2. To create green screens, you need to choose large plants. Initially, such plants are more expensive. But the desired effect can be achieved much faster. It is important to imagine what the chosen plant will be like in 5-10 years. Large evergreens can also be planted away from the road. But separate with greens open veranda From the entire site it is better to have smaller plants.

3. You should not plant all plants of the same type in one line, side by side. A pest will attack or a disease will take root, and all your pets will get sick. They will become infected from each other. And we must remember that plants do not grow in orderly rows in nature. To obtain a more natural effect, plants should be planted in groups to create a “wild”. Zigzag several deciduous shrubs, a pair of evergreens and a cluster perennial herbs along the border of your property.

4. When planting plants, decide exactly what you want to hide from your eyes. Try on the plant so that the dirty side of your neighbor's garage or anything else is not visible.

I hate corrugated sheets mainly because they look ugly. Secondly, for absolute light-tightness. Here, admire it. The month of April. In the foreground there is a large snowdrift - this is snow from the road. But along the fence there was just snow that just fell and then didn’t melt, because the fence provided shade and cold.

I am for fences to be more transparent. At the same time, I understand that it is not very pleasant to live always in public view. But why separate your children from your neighbors? Why isolate yourself from your neighbors on the street, with whom it’s so nice to exchange a few words during the evening promenade? Why lock yourself in a dull yard for prisoners to exercise (some even have barbed wire along the top)? Why not cover and hide only those corners of the garden in which you want to retire? Veranda near the house. Terrace near the bathhouse. A cozy nook for reading. And leave the rest of the area open to the sun, the admiring glances of passersby, and allow your own gaze not to constantly rest against the wall.

This year we are planning to expand the house, and with it the reconstruction of the veranda. In the middle of summer, at the first stage of reconstruction, our veranda looked like this

In addition to the purely aesthetic aspect, there is also a practical one. Let's say, my neighbors have a perimeter fence with a two-meter high corrugated sheet fence. Yes, I don't see them from below. But from the windows of the second floor their site is clearly visible. All, except! one and a half to two meters directly adjacent to the fence. That is, if such an impervious to the eye, but more attractive fence stood close to the recreation area, then it would not be visible from the second floor. And now it’s in full view. Think about it :)
So. Until this spring, our veranda was open on three sides. Actually, it's just an elegant polycarbonate canopy. The fourth side is adjacent to the house. When construction began on the neighboring site, and the workers there, during breaks with nothing to do, constantly stared at what I was doing there, I hung a curtain on that side. Striped Gulsporre from IKEA. In addition to the wonderful stripe, what I liked about these curtains is that they slightly shade, while allowing light to pass through, you can’t see anything through them, and they are made of 70% polyester, and therefore dry quickly and do not develop terrible black mold on them - a thunderstorm any cotton textiles I left outside, even under the roof. They spent the whole summer hanging out on the edge of the veranda, getting pretty fussed about, but then they washed themselves perfectly in the washing machine the first time.

I write about curtains in such detail because this is the easiest option to isolate the veranda from prying eyes. Simple, elegant, cozy and mobile. You can change them at least every week, depending on your mood. Just be sure to pay attention to the composition of the fabric, because pure cotton, as I already said, does not behave well in wet weather.
Look how beautiful and opaque it is.

And here’s a good idea on how to fasten the curtains from the bottom so that they don’t flutter too much in the wind.

.
I also like the combination of trellises and curtains. Like here, for example. I definitely use it

And another trellis. With flowers. In fact, this fine lattice only seems completely transparent. From the inside, it’s great to see the surroundings through it, but from the outside, from a certain distance, it’s hard to see.

And, of course, different fences. You will be surprised how many options for fencing can be made from regular boards and slats.

One cannot fail to mention, of course, hedges and climbing plants. Some might argue that they are only opaque in the warmer months. But in winter, rarely does anyone sit outside in negligee, maybe it’s not scary that the veranda is visible in winter :)

For some reason, I found almost no pictures of blinds on verandas. I think this is a good option because it allows you to create several use cases. Maybe they don't behave well outdoors?

.

And a few more ideas in different styles. I like them less, but suddenly someone else will like them.

Here, for example, is a screen made from old doors. IN country style or shabby chic will fit perfectly.

The “natural” situation outside the perimeter of the site may not be very impressive: an empty field, an ugly ravine, a clearing with weeds, a washed out road, a drying tree, etc. But this is not the worst option! The site may have a view of the neighbor’s barn or toilet, “warehouse” building materials, high voltage pole. But this too can be dealt with.

1. Cover unwanted views. Position tall trees and shrubs, as well as all kinds garden designs so that such “beauty” is not visible from various significant points of the site, as well as from the windows of your house. Do not forget that the composition must be harmonious. Use the same types of plants that grow outside the site and are visible from it. This will completely disguise the unwanted appearance. For example, if there is a birch tree nearby, the best thing is to plant several birch trees on the border of the site, then they will create a natural, pleasing to the eye and reasonable composition. If you use something atypical, the eye will involuntarily “cling” to an “object” that is uncharacteristic of the landscape.

2. Create a distraction. Sometimes an undesirable view cannot be completely covered - due to its complex location or too large size. There is only one way out: to distract attention, not to let your eyes concentrate on it.

Make your site emphatically decorative: introduce a few catchy, perhaps even whimsical elements, add a couple of bright color spots. This is exactly the case when some “overkill”, even “kitsch”, is good.

For example, a completely mirrored flower bed, a plant support in the form of a huge floor lamp, a massive sculpture or a flower garden fence made of colored concrete columns will become ideal solution problems: the eye will be drawn to unusual elements.

How to make a fence from neighbors

So, my dear readers, let’s talk about neighbors, that is, how to properly and beautifully isolate yourself from them. Neighbors, however, are different, but there are those for whom it is better not to show their “goods” in the yard. For me personally good neighbors. The exhaustive one is enough for us: “ Good morning" or "Hello!" But time flies, we are constantly doing some kind of repairs, reconstruction, cleaning, putting a “maraffe” in the yard, especially with the arrival of spring, the working season. This also applies to our neighbors’ fences. When the time comes to replace the fence, some problems may arise in the correctness of this fence. It sounds kind of strange, but there is a reason for this.

In order not to spoil relations with neighbors, before installing a fence, you need to inform them about it. Moreover, most often when installing a fence you will also have to trample on their territory. If they have green spaces near the border of their territory, then you need to discuss where you can walk and what it is advisable to bypass. Otherwise, we are always indignant at our neighbors, but after installing the fence we can leave ourselves on their territory construction garbage. (photo of a hedge fence from neighbors)

Now there is a fashion for profiled sheets - metal, “blind”, smooth or embossed, different heights and coloring. Most people put them on themselves, and preferably higher! Really impressive high fence? But a high, “deaf” fence – that is, without clearings, holes, etc. – has many disadvantages. So, such a fence can create a wind well - this is when the wind creates turbulence, and it’s not a fact that it’s not on your side. Here you can read about how to protect yourself from strong winds by creating fences - out of order. material or green spaces - how to protect the area from the wind.

Well since we landscape designers, gardeners, then maybe you need to pay more attention to green spaces - otherwise you can enclose yourself in bricks and corrugated sheets, grow a tree with difficulty and run around it: “Look, I’m a master, I can do it!”))) The rustling of leaves is much more pleasant, spring bloom, an offering to us, hard workers, as a gift of fruits, nuts, berries, fruits for our care and love for natural beauty!... So I suggest planting plants as a fence - they also allow air to pass through well, without creating air stagnation in the garden, but also protecting from strong winds. In this case, there should be a fence, but not high and not “deaf” - and it could be a chain-link fence, a picket fence, a wattle fence... It will protect your area from the penetration of domestic animals and poultry from neighboring areas. (photo of a garden mesh fence)

If you want to isolate yourself from annoying neighbors, then you need to think a little here. People often complain that their neighbors have built a high fence, back side which does not look aesthetically pleasing at all, and besides, the fence on their site creates a shadow under which nothing will grow! This is not good. For such things it seems not big problems neighbors ruin relationships forever. So maybe it's better not to make these problems? If you want to install a fence, then by law the fence that separates your and your neighbor’s property must be transparent or not “deaf” so as not to create a shadow. Good options are wooden fencing (picket fence, unedged or edged board) or chain-link mesh, which in turn can also be veiled so that it is not entirely transparent, but also looks aesthetically pleasing. Most the best option- make it green. You can plant climbing plants and vines that will delight not only your eye, but also your neighbor’s. Here you can read about climbers and vines in the garden using this link.

These are exactly the kind of fences that look aesthetically pleasing on both sides and can improve relations with neighbors! But about planting trees and bushes as a fence, I will say this: always find out the diameter of the mature crown of the tree that you want to plant as a fence. If the crown of a tree “climbs” onto the neighbors’ property, then they have the right to cut off the branches or, even better, to collect fruits and nuts that are located on their territory. Therefore, it is better to plant tall, but not wide-growing trees! For example, we install a chain-link mesh, next to it (we step back half a meter from the mesh) we plant cypress trees at a distance of 2 meters from each other, between the cypress trees near the mesh itself you can sow climbing and vines (I recently met the dolichos liana - how it blooms, so gently lilac color... oh...), climbing and vines will just cover the space between the cypress trees and your neighbors will need to pick out the “peephole” in the greenery with their fingers to see what you are doing. Well, if they are so arrogant, then you shouldn’t be left behind, if you notice espionage - just don’t pay attention and do everything you did before - they’ll see enough and it won’t be interesting to them anymore. After all, they already know everything about you. They stop by just when they want to know more!)

To draw attention not to your yard activities, but to the fence itself, you can decorate it. Here even a child can help, they have a developed imagination. The most simple decoration there may be green plastic bottles with the top cut off (where the lid is) and painted with moisture-resistant paints. Draw their eyes, nose, mouth. And preferably with expression, so that they all have different emotions. Don’t forget that you need to show only good emotions towards your neighbors.) They are put on fence posts. Green bottles are not noticeable among the greenery, but painted faces will give the fence “character”. I would also buy a sculpture or cut out a cat from foam plastic. Naturally, the foam also needs to be decorated. And right there, on the fence. Imagine what a shock the neighbors' cats will be! This is all psychological techniques- show eyes. If there are eyes drawn on some element of the fence facing the neighbors, then the neighbors will subconsciously not want to look at your yard, because they are being “followed”…. (photo of a wooden fence between areas)

There is no need to install benches, gazebos, or playgrounds near the fence, where it is not advisable to have gatherings next to neighbors. Because the words spoken by you or your children may not be interpreted by your neighbors in the correct sense. Well, you know, I have such neighbors that I’m not afraid to talk about anything so that they can hear - and they can assent, ask again, inform, and this is even nice!) But if the neighbors misunderstand you, then in such places it is better to install utility buildings, garages, greenhouses, or plant a garden in which you came and worked, picked fruit in the fall, that is, it is advisable to make these places work places in which you need to do something. Often people are not attracted to the work of others, especially since you can’t talk or gossip, a person works, there’s no time! But overhearing a conversation while relaxing in a gazebo is quite possible. (photo of a plastic fence between areas)

And now some official information. Legislative norms for erecting a fence between neighbors.

Few people know that the Town Planning Code of the Russian Federation regulates not only the construction, but also the planning of any structures and buildings on the territory of a plot of land. It does not contain any clear instructions regarding a categorical prohibition or, conversely, the need to place a solid fence between two neighboring houses. As a rule, in this case they apply sanitary standards and rules that are announced in SNiP and also apply to SNT.

But, you should keep in mind that the administration of the local area where you live may have its own rules and regulations for construction, which also apply to the construction of fence structures. In addition, you may even need planning permission from the local authority. Be sure to obtain written consent from the residents of all neighboring houses. Remember that if the owner of a certain land plot, then the new owner has every right to tear down the fence or demand to do so.

There is an unspoken rule that says that the pillars should be located on the very border of two plots, or on the side of the person who is erecting the fence. The fence crossbars must be on the territory of the owners of this fence and not protrude into the territory of neighbors. It is strictly forbidden to enter the territory of neighbors; it is necessary to calculate the distance between support pillars fence

If the situation is the other way around - your neighbor wants to build a blind fence between yours and his, then you must understand what standards he should not violate. Based on SNiP, all individual areas must be fenced, and the fence should not be mesh or lattice. It should not be higher than one and a half meters in height. If you notice that the installation of a blind fence is contrary to the law and infringes on the rights of neighboring landowners, then you need to urgently contact the horticulture department with a written statement.

Most likely, the dispute can be resolved peacefully, otherwise you will have to file a lawsuit in court. Remember, however, that then you will need to prove violations of your rights by your neighbors. For example, you can prove that a neighbor, with his fence, will darken some part of your plot, which you intended for growing crops, flowers, grapes, etc. As proof of this, you can present an act of violation of the law, which is drawn up based on the results of a forensic examination (the customer pays for it independently).

If the experts clearly make a decision on a violation of current rules and regulations, then the court will 100% decide in your favor. In addition, the court also obliges the defendant, who in this case is your neighbor, to reimburse the costs that you are forced to incur in connection with paying for the services of experts.

Instructions for installing a fence between areas.

So, you are armed with all the necessary knowledge regarding regulations and know your rights. Below is step-by-step instruction on conducting negotiations with neighbors and installing the fence itself.

  • Coordination of plans with neighbors. If you plan to fence your front or back yard, then it is not at all necessary to discuss your intentions with your neighbors. Moreover, there is no need to ask for any permission for a construction project. However, in order to strengthen relations with neighbors, as well as to avoid misunderstandings in the future, you need to first talk with them about your plans and intentions. This will clearly define the boundaries of the property and save you from claims against each other. If you are lucky, your neighbors will support your idea, it is possible that they will even be ready to help you not only physically, but even financially.
  • Determination of site boundaries and calculation of materials. Determine the line of your property, make sure the location of your future fence, set aside correct sizes and calculate the quantity and cost of materials. This will save you from any unpleasant confusion later when you start installing the fence. This will also help you be fully prepared when negotiating with your neighbors, especially when they wonder if you are going to take away part of their territory.
  • Inform about the construction of the fence. There is no need to plan to officially inform your neighbors about the implementation of your construction project. Just the next time you see them, supposedly casually tell them about your intentions to build a fence. Be sure to tell them exactly what type of fence you want to build and from what material. They can even help you decide on your choice and help you with payment or installation. Keep in mind that this turn of events is only likely if you notify your neighbors of your intentions in advance.
  • Learn to negotiate. It may happen that your neighbors do not like the idea of building a fence, or they are not satisfied with the height and other factors. If this happens, arrange a meeting where you discuss all their complaints against you. Learn to negotiate correctly so that in the end, your neighbors agree with you and want to participate in the construction. Don’t be too principled; you will need to give in to them in some details.
  • Contact a lawyer. If your neighbors are very conflicted people and do not want to compromise on anything, you will have to contact a lawyer. He will help you draw up a document according to which your neighbors will be obliged to pay a certain amount for the construction of the fence.
  • Respect other people's interests. Your neighbors are people just like you. Respect their interests and they will treat you the same.

And finally, I wish you good neighbors. A fence is a fence, you can’t protect yourself from gossip, they can be made up anyway. But if you want to build a fence, then make it pleasant not only for yourself, but also improve the side that will be on the neighbors’ side. And they will lose interest in visiting you. This way you will catch “two birds with one stone” at the same time!
